June 19, 20215 yr Why didn't Chiwell get game time against Scotland? He's better going forward than Shaw, if not a better player all round. I know it's only the second group name, but there are many options on the bench that Southgate happily ignored, maybe he was contend with a point or even group runner up.

I think Southgate's luck might have finally run out. The switch to a back four in particular seems bizarre after the success with 3-4-3 in recent years. Shaw was awful, not picking Chilwell who is on a high from the CL win seems strange, especially given he has played regularly beforehand. 11Leaving Sancho out is perhaps even stranger. England looked clunky and Scotland were arguably the better side last night. I sense a classic England Round of 16 crash out. Edited June 19, 20215 yr by Spiller86

Never rated Southgate as a tactical manager so don't expect him to change too much or make telling substitutions yet we live in hope he gets some inspiration. Would be nice to see Sancho next time we need a goal rather than Grealish.

Just bizarre to go away from an approach that has served England so well heading into a tournament they have the players to win. Surely the 3-4-3 with the wingbacks creates more than the very stagnant 4-2-3-1. Sancho surely has to start not just be a sub as well.

If I were DCL I'd be insulted to see a half fit winger in Rashford put on the pitch as a striker while DCL sits on the bench. And as a German journalist said, any team that benches Sancho for two consecutive games must have a phenomenal attack. Foden should not have been subbed off. Sterling was poor. Bellingham should've come on second half for Phillips. Southgate out. Muppet.

June 19, 20215 yr Just now, Munkworth said: I thought Giroud was the key man to the French attack and he needed to leave Chelsea to play regularly for the good of his nation. Why’s he not even on the pitch despite France needing a goal. ??? He is on the pitch

June 19, 20215 yr 6 minutes ago, Bob stark said: Why? His pace is absolutely ridiculous, all he need to do is run at full speed and 99% of the time he’ll get past the defenders. It’s not fair. Terrifying player.

June 19, 20215 yr Ousmane Dembele is such a sad story, a superstar level talent but had so many injuries

Now you have 2 slots left for sterling, mount, sancho, foden, grealish, Rashford.

No you don’t, you have three spaces for Mount, Calvert-Lewin and Sancho and the bench for the other c**ts.
June 19, 20215 yr Does anyone understand how this tournament is considered fair when certain teams play at home every time while others need to travel for every game? I am so confused. Hungary now played against Portugal and France in front of nearly 60k people in their home stadium. Germany will play EVERY single group stage game at home. Same for England. ??? Along with the terrible refereeing this tournament more and more feels like some random preseason cup in America or Dubai to me. A total mess. Nothing makes any sense.

Not quite cricket, is it I agree it seems a bit arbitrary on which teams get home advantage. Great to see the Hungary crowd buzzing and am wondering how Scotalnd will fare when the Tartan army heads back home from virus hot-spot Leicester Square.

If we win the group - although a draw against the Czechs is looking more likely than a win, we will play one of France, Portugal or Germany. I think we should be seriously hoping we don’t win the group.

We were being stifled and said we needed a formation change and he bottled it. I guess he thought on it and worried about Foden vs Mount and Rice vs Phillips as two of them would probably had to go off. For me it is the key point, now is he afraid to drop the media darlings? The press acknowledged he did drop Kane and that showed he wasn't totally inept as Kane did not look fit yet added it was crying out for us to go with 3CBs and two wide men.
