Based on your screen shot, my first thought is that with a winger instead of a fw close to him and two midfielder deeper than him, he will be free to attack the box. This remind me of certain someone. 

8 goals from open play is very good for a  midfielder.

Does Poch play a system to get the best out of Conor? Nope. 

All systems require player to run. You can play slow, fast, tippy tappy, counter, jdp, polymorphism whatever, you need to run. 

It is not just the distance that matter but you need to do it quickly otherwise it is just nonsense. This is the basis of everything. 

You don't like Conor. That is fine, you just need to get your front 4 (especially the winger) to run more. It is that simple.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

There are questions of why poch play him in "free" role. It is not free role, How Gallagher play depend on who is around him. Why? Because his job is to support other player. This season he has played deepest dm, box to box, RM, am 😵‍💫😵‍💫

Gallagher leaving might all be a moot point anyway, as there is talk this morning that Tottenham can't afford the fee (ironically due to FFP LOL), and as no other club seems to be in for him then I guess he'll be staying put !

60 million is too cheap... easy 80 million player... especially given what we've shelled out for players in midfield in the past 18 months. Would Calvin Philips be a shred loan until the end of season for us? Would pep sanction that given we made him look like a fool with Palmer?

Palmer left with Pep's best wishes. He wanted to leave, he wanted game time, he was down the pecking order behind City's forward stars. 

The issue with Conor is his contract has 18 months left and if he doesnt sign a new contract he'll be sold within the next 6 months whilst we can still demand a good fee.

Would be interesting to know what contract is on the table and why he's not signed.

That's where I disagree. In no world should Gallagher ( in the long run ) compensate for Nkunku, Enzo, and Caicedo. 

We've built a technical squad that should be used to control games and use its quality to break down teams, but instead we are trying to out-scrap opponents time and time again. This scrap football is where Gallagher strives, as we saw with Palace.

It isn't as if Gallagher isn't getting chances by the way. He as 20+ touches in the box with 20+ shots and 0 goals to show for it. So again, I'm not sure what you are expecting. .

Yes Gallagher's shooting has been terrible for us - a far cry from his season at Palace. Maybe he just hit a purple patch for them, or maybe he borrowed Kovacics boots when he left for City.

Here's one for us all. 

Who would you rather in the side right now if both were 100% fit. CG or Mount? 

having both isn't an option... 

I'm going with CG... simply no hunger, desire and ability to win the ball back. Think the goals and assists will come.

It was very much a season of two halves at Palace.

First 18 games - 7 goals

Last 16 games - 1 goal

It's looking like the goals in the first half of his Palace loan are the exception rather than the rule ... certainly we've not seen any of that for Chelsea !

Yeah that's right. I remember second half of the season he was poor and some Palace fans were bitter.

I assume by controlling game you want slow tippy tappy ball. If you want tippy tappy ball in PL, you better sign wc attacker everywhere otherwise it will be very difficult to score. 

I believe you are Sarriball fans and this is exactly the case under Sarri. Once team understood sarri circuit, it was so difficult for us to score but luckily we had Hazard.

I simply think we have enough technical quality where we should be controlling matches and breaking sides down far better. With Nkunku returning, Chilwell, Lavia, Carney, and Madueke and Mudryk slowly improving, I expect to see that this second half.

I will be happy when Chilwell, Lavia, and Carney actually return for more than a few minutes.

Sarri's first season at Napoli was similar (with prime Higuain "bailing him out" like Hazard here) but in the second season that's when his football took off, even after losing Gonzalo.

I think we'd have seen a similar improvement in the second season here, infact the signs were already starting to show in the final 3rd of the season.

Funny thing is though, despite the football and chance creation that season not being great it almost always broke down the parked buses by hook or by crook, 57 points out of an available 66 against teams from 10th down, figures we've only been able to dream about since, even under Tuchel.

My guess is chukwumeka is going to be hard to ignore for a midfield spot very soon. While Jackson is away may still be possible to fit Palmer Nkunku and Carney into the one team but once Jackson or another 9 is playing will be tough. 

Think Palmer imo is best suited at the CF role for the time being, with Nkunku supporting him. 

Should Broja not prove any value.
