Has to be one of the most uninspiring appointments ever. Why even bother sacking Vieira at all?

Does seem a strange decision. I know that some people like to carry on working for long as possible but I'm surprised he doesn't want to enjoy his retirement. Will be interesting to see he can turn around Palace.

Of course it’s an overreaction, but Fulham are the perfect club for them to get tough with. Wouldn’t happen with MU or L’pool.

I think this has been brewing for a while now and it’s all the fault of either weak refs or more likely weak FA not giving the backing.
For years now players have been surrounding refs now over the simplest decisions and giving them dogs abuse. (thinking about Rooney days).

The refs have all the power here, simple,  1 warning, yellow card, still here!! Red card. Start maybe getting a few players sent off for dissent over the one incident would bring a bit of respect. Would refs get the backing from the FA, I’m not so sure.

I have noticed more and more recently since VARs introduction over penalty decisions. The defenders surround the ref while the decision is being made, decision giving a penalty will have them upping the protests. When all calms down goalkeepers then start their f**king about walking back and forward to the ball etc. Everyone knows that when the decision is made it will not be changed and all this is gameplay to put off pen taker.
If a ref was to start making these decisions he may have 3/4 sendings off in his first few matches but after that there would be a lot less decent.

No doubt the FA will bang on about ref protection over this Fulham incident but they are weak, they have the tools to protect themselves so f**king use them and put these prima donas back in there place.

I watch rugby - both codes - and played a few games of rugby union in my younger days. In both codes the referee's decision is final and they won't take any dissent. Yes, refs make mistakes but then again who doesn't. If players say too much a penalty will be given or the other team can move play forward 10 metres. Ref will only speak to the captain to ask him to tell his players to behave and/or the player(s) who broke the laws of the game.

As you say, one warning, yellow card. 2 for a red. And if too many cards for dissent, loads of players surrounding/touching the ref points deduction. That would certainly tighten up on discipline. No problem with the captain asking the ref why he gave a decision but after that no more discussion. Would require managers to remind the players of how to behave and the referees to be stronger and given support by the ref. Sadly, can't see that happening.

I agree with all this. Maybe this will be the moment that the house is put in order. Whilst they are at it, its time to visit the managers in the coaching area. Frequently we see managers charging over to the fourth official, arguing and demonstrating. Also some feel the need to be permanently outside of the box. Simple way to stop it , yellow first offence and red second. Have a totting up and ban similar to what the players have.

It could be worse, they could have employed Harry Redknapp or Fat Sam Allardyce, two more grossly overrated managers.  Allardyce's (and Tony Pulis') football is even worse than Hodgson's, they play 1980's style hoof ball.

Uefa is to investigate payments made by Barcelona to a former vice-president of Spain's referees' committee.

Uefa has appointed ethics and disciplinary inspectors to look into payments allegedly made for favourable refereeing decisions.

A court heard Barcelona have been indicted for "corruption", "breach of trust" and "false business records".

Prosecutors allege Barca paid 8.4m euros (£7.4m) to Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira and his Dasnil 95 company.

Barcelona, who deny any wrongdoing, acknowledged the payments were made to Dasnil 95 between 2001 and 2018.

Uefa said: "Ethics and disciplinary inspectors have been appointed to conduct an investigation regarding a potential violation of Uefa's legal framework by FC Barcelona in connection with the so-called 'Caso Negreira'".

The payments, revealed by radio station Ser Catalunya, came to light following an investigation by tax authorities into Dasnil 95.

"FC Barcelona obtained and maintained a strictly confidential verbal agreement with Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira so that, in his capacity as vice-president of the technical arbitral committee (CTA) and in exchange for money, the latter carries out actions tending to benefit FC Barcelona in decisions by the referees," said the public prosecutor's office.

The Catalan club described the company as "an external technical consultant" which was paid to compile video reports related to professional referees "with the aim of complementing the information required by the coaching staff".

Former Barcelona presidents Josep Maria Bartomeu and Sandro Rosell, as well as Negreira, have been indicted alongside the club.

The lawsuits were brought by the Barcelona public prosecutor's office.

La Liga chief executive Javier Tebas has said that current Barcelona president Joan Laporta should resign if he was unable to explain the payments.

Real Madrid said that "in defence of its legitimate rights, it will appear at the trial when the judge opens it up to the affected parties".

This case has no legs and seems like a procedural witch-hunt, to be honest. The prosecution's star witness is a person who has openly admitted to blackmailing the club. Any sane court would throw that out. It is very different to Calciopoli.

This may well be an example of where the scandalous rumour hides the true crime:

Reading between the lines, Barcelona (along with the other top clubs) pay for advice to help them con league referees.

Except they have no receipts or information on how, why or when he was actually paid these amounts. No official tax records, no invoices etc.

Its as dodgy as f**k and I hope they get tore apart for it, the hypocritical cretins.

Dead right about Fulham being the ideal club to get tough with.

I remember when Cantona supposedly struck a blow against racism , he chose to act at Crystal Palaces family section to make his point.

What help did Barca need , really ?  Their team was one of the best ever for a while, and In their league it's them and Real, sometimes Athletico.

Doesn't make much sense, how do you pay one guy to ensure loads of refs give favourable decisions ?

Wouldn't be surprised though tbh

Our manager won't be getting any cards, that's for sure.

I know a guy like that ... 78 years old, multi-millionaire, works every hour under the sun.

When I asked him why, he simply said "I've been working since I was 16 years old ... I don't know how to do anything else ... ". Quite sad really ...

Since Spurs keep appointing rx Chelsea managers in the vain hope that some of our glory might rub off on them, is there anyone we can think of who could go there to continue the trend ?😁😁😁

So Conte officially gone now. Spurs people are thick. Appointing ex chelsea managers who have been successful misses the point. They’re top managers used to working at a top club. That recipe isn’t the same at spurs.

At least Tuchel has a new job. Maybe they can go for Lamps next?

Two serial winners Jose and Conte came and went with nothing at Spurs, so dare to say managers are not the main reason of failure to win anything. Jose was sacked just before a cup final, it was ludicrous considering he's one of the best to pull off a cup win by playing his own way.  You can't teach people who don't have the hunger and will to win.

Both Mourinho and Conte said the same thing about spurs - they questioned the lack of mentality in the dressing room etc. I don’t know why either sullied their cvs by going there as failure was inevitable…apart from wanting an easy paycheque.

They should carry on employing muppets like Redkanpp and Tim Sherwood, just like Tottenham's players they talk a better game than they play.  And thank God the awful Daniel Levy isn't our owner!

Spurs currently sit in 4th, now they could let Ryan Mason run with it until the end of the season and risk dropping out of the top four and champions league qualification.

Will be interesting to see how this goes, of course on the rebound from Conte they might put a couple of results together before they come back to Earth.
