How dis these fans on here turn on Enzo so fast, he played well, and chipped in with a good contribution from MF, came back a bit flat against Palace, and some pathetic posts follow…

It's simple. He has a great knack for chipping in with a goal, almost Lampard like the way he ghosts in, but there are times where he struggles. 95% of those issues are off the ball. He's too slow, lacks athleticism. He can be easily bypassed and it's making Caicedo work way harder than he should be. Even today, I thought he was awful at times because of these problems, but he also had a few good moments on the ball too. Look at him at half time, sweating buckets compared to the rest of the team. He looked like he had to put in the extra effort to keep up with the game.

He's not a bad footballer, I don't think anybody is saying that, but I think there is a fair argument to be had on whether his good traits are so good that they outweigh the negatives. Personally, I'm not convinced they are.

Maresca said last season that one of our weaknesses is the transition (when we lose the ball). I think Enzo is the main reason why we are so poor in transition personally.

I wouldn't really have much of an issue with Enzo if it wasn't for the fact that he is untouchable and better attacking players (Palmer) are often moved around to accommodate him. I think there are games where we would be better without him, Palace was one of those games.

Easy, he cost a 100 million and is extremely inconsistent.

You shouldn't be having that many bad games for such a price tag.

Big price tag. Average midfielder

I think he did a lot of things good further down the pitch during build up that we probably take for granted, the perfectly weighted pass to Reece before he made that pass to Estevao is a good example, but going forward I think he struggled.

Mixed bag of a game to be honest.

Are you sure? My biggest concern is we can’t control games with him in the middle of the park because he lacks the positional awareness. We are also slow in transition because he isn’t there or can’t progress the ball. Caicedo can do it but he needs his partner to be disciplined when he carries the ball forward. It is light and day when you stick Lavia next to Caicedo, how fluid we play and how they work in tandem. My biggest concern is how Caicedo is relegated to a water carrier next to him because he can’t/wont get stuck in. Most football analytics apps have him as our worst player yesterday despite that goal.

Yes I'm sure I was paying close attention after his shocker last game.

In regards to bolded, that's cause he's usually occupying the right wing space as instructed. This is why I said when he was further down in actual position he did well in build up and escaping the pressing before moving forward to take up that space where he didn't do much.

When Lavia and Caicedo play in midfield together neither of them are instructed to do the same thing Enzo does, at most you will see Caicedo quite high up in a position to possibly get a shot of from edge of the box but he's not going to be holding space on the left or right so that's why there's a difference.

scoring a goal doesn't let you spend the other 89 minutes contributing f**k all and being a liability.

Even a goal can’t cover his performance.

0.02xA. Where is this creativity?

3 crosses, 0 accurate.

0 successful dribbles.

1 big chance missed.

0 aerial duels won.

0 clearances.

0 interceptions.

14 times possession lost.

Too many people see a goal on the scoresheet and think that means it was a good game. 6 league goals last season and people were talking like he was some revolutionary game winner, the likes of which we haven’t seen since Lampard.

On reflection maybe I'm being too critical on his performance yesterday going forward, on another day could have got 2 goals.

On another day against a decent side we allow more chances through the middle. Even a shockingly bad west were able to wander through at will at times.

Hes not a central midfielder, its really that simple. If maresca keeps picking him there then we will lose plenty of games due to the enormous gaps in the middle of the pitch.

Serious question, where do you see his position? I don’t think he’s ideal in a two man pivot, but think in a 3 man mid he’s a great no.8.

In current system he could be the 10, but there are three I’d pick ahead of him there (Palmer, Pedro, Estevao).

Enzo Fernandez doesnt seem to contribute as much as we had expected. He wasnt cheap and Real Madrid want him for 130million, so there must be something there that we havent uncovered. Maresca doesnt always play him and may be playing him out of position, who knows. We dont seem to need the 130 million in terms of a transfer float just now. I can see him being sold January or maybe next summer. We can probably get by without him. Maybe not all of our players can be magic all of the time. Hes not bad overall in my opinion, could keep him or sell him. Nice problem (if indeed it is a problem) to have.

Well I think Maresca knows better than all us observational fans, I apologise if their are Tier 1 players in the SE, but he gets the pick as his captain when Reece doesn’t start, yet we know more than him, he who watches all his boys at a Macro level that we don’t , I think he’ll become more of a goal threat as well, listen to Redders saying how many runs he makes into GS chances, who was our last MF that knew how to do that….Just saying
