  1. 1. 4 months in, terrible football with no sign of improvement after the World Cup, youngsters aren't even being given a chance either, should he be given the sack?

Define "worked well", because our transfer history since 2017 has been shambolic and signing Lukaku in 2021 ultimately took us backwards when we should of been progressing after that Champions League final win.

Arteta and Edu are like brothers.

Pep and Txiki are never off the phone with one another.

It's not that Potter is a "yes man", its whether the club view Potter as a man that can work with the technical/sporting director on the long term vision.

100% agree, people that clamour for the old days of Marina, Cech and Roman need to remember that they're the reason the squad is in the state it's in, as you said we haven't had a good transfer window in 5 years with a lot of expensive mistakes along the way.

Potter has been brought in as part of the club's vision along with the completely new backroom team put together by the new owners, realistically we have no idea how it's going to pan out which is why wanting a change in management now would be a poor decision, we need to give them time to build a team and potter to implement a style of football

Yep, he wasn't a 'yes' man. I don't think there are any top coaches that are!

Ancelotti in many ways is a 'yes man' and considered one of the greatest managers of the last generation. IMO it really depends on the club and structure the manager is working within. Charismatic coaches like Jose, Conte, Tuchel etc can do just as good or as bad as non-charismatic coaches depending on the moving pieces working around them.

What I meant was that he had a good working relationship with them. Wasn't alluding that Granovskaia did a good job, she's set us back years and i've been of that opinion for years.

My point was that Tuchel proved he can work with directors and sporting directors by having a good relationship with them. I think he would have had a great relationship with Vivell as well had Boehly given him the opportunity. Unfortunately Boehly had to pester him with Ronaldo and other ridiculous ideas and then sacked him when Tuchel hurt his feelings.

Anyone glad Tuchel refused Ronaldo btw? I sure am. Though ff a "yes" would have meant he kept his job I wished he said yes but Boehly had other ideas. Ideas which he is now reaping the "benefits" from, the fool.

15 points from 11 games now, 1.36 points per game.

For reference in Lampard's second season he won 29 points over 19 games, 1.5 points per game.

Next 3 league games are absolutely massive. 9 points and we are back with a chance of top 4.

But if we slip up....how can anyone justify us competing outside the top 8.

Anyone glad Tuchel steered us towards Aubameyang? No, I thought not.

Well, Boehly & Eghbali personally called Auba after they sacked Tuchel and reassured him that he was a club signing. So there's that.

Secondly, Tuchel can't be blamed for the signings that aren't peforming for Potter. Cucurella and Sterling had a great start to the season under him - sh*te now. It's food for thought.

Anyone glad Boehly signed a player seemingly specific for Tuchel then sacked him a few days later? Me neither

Whatever. I thought it would be years until we went for another striker who was as obviously sh*te as Lukaku. And yet here we are with an over the hill, Arsenal cast-off, can't be arsed striker who is streaking past Lukaku for sheer sh*teyness. Is there a common denominator in there anywhere?

No. From everything that was in the media at the time, fairly certain Aubameyang was a Tuchel steer myself. And Cucurella wasn't great at the beginning either. TBF Sterling was a lot better at first. New club bounce?

Anyway Sindre. Tuchel isn't coming back. Time to move on.

Cucurella was good for a couple of games when he started, but then lost a lot of weight through illness and hasn't been the same since.

Aubameyang was a coach and club signing. TT wanted him over cr7, personally I didn't really want either. TT does have to take some responsibility in the PEA signing just like the Lukaku one. Yet TT didn't get much time with PEA so at the same time sacking TT after he got his preferred striker just seems even more bizzare

Lets say Potter is shown the door in the near future, the question is what decent manager would risk their reputation to take over this mess? If the owners change their mind on Potter  after a few months, then there is no 'project' and any new manager would be expected to deliver results immediately with the same challenges (injuries, poor signings etc.). We could quickly change from an 18-24 month cycle to a 3-6 month cycle for new managers like Watford. And we know what happened there.

Fair enough.

Told you it wasn't a good idea though didn't I...

You did indeed, but I think most people on here said they would have given him more time. Personally I felt he should have been given until the break for the WC to try and turn things around.

There is no question that there were major problems that Tuchel, (as Potter is now), was struggling with. After the pre-season hammering by Arsenal, Tuchel looked a defeated person to me and his post-match comments really weren't great. Would he have turned it around? Who knows. But if he was here now having to integrate the new players, many of whom look like panic signings at the moment, and also deal with the unbelievable injury list Potter has right now, I don't think it's certain we would be doing any better. As others have rightly said, our current circumstances and problems are far deeper than just a change of manager.
