If Colwill is getting bullied how on earth do some fans think Maatsen would cope better 😂 The match he started recently he got out muscled every time he had to duel for the ball. It'll be ok. The club has installed one of those height restriction boards you see at funfairs, you can't play for us if you fit under it.

Started off with an awful pass to the opposition which could have ended in a goal only to recover the ball and play a really good through ball. Could easily have been Zero but ended up Hero. That assist clip pretty much showcases what has been said at length ... Maatsen is good going forwards but not much of a defender.

Bullied at RW yet people want him to defend against the most physical players in the world. As far as attack goes, he’s a victim of circumstance. Too many players here already that are heavily invested on. I reckon he’ll be a winger eventually if Dortmund buy him. Bundesliga suits him with their suicidal football.

January 21, 20242 yr Shocked. A LB is played in position (for a team that is better than us) and is doing well

January 21, 20242 yr Question for all the Maatsen advocates ... if we are going to keep an academy graduate left back who is good going forwards, but suspect defensively, would you take Hall or Maatsen ? Reason I am asking is that it is not yet a given that Newcastle will retain Hall, given their FFP situation and the rumours that the Hall "obligation to buy" has conditions attached to it that may not be met. If Hall is coming back, maybe that explains the club's stance on Maatsen ?

Eddie's only public utterance (that I know of) was to the effect that "we need to work on his defence". That he has had so little game time, given their injury issues, suggests Eddie doesn't think he's up to it yet. For that matter, not even in midfield given their issues there too. With Newcastle's FFP issues, we could well see him back.

He's already shown a much higher level than Maatsen for me. Not sure either is what we actually need though ! At this point, anyway ... Hall is probably not doing enough in training to get picked at Newcastle more regularly, so similar story really. Even with Dan Burn out injured, Howe was going with Livramento at LB ahead of Hall. Lewis has started just 3 games (out of 31) and got subbed at HT in two of them, and after 74 minutes in the third. Livramento has had 7 starts at left back, and completed 6 full games. Eddie Howe obviously seeing more from Tino than from Hall, despite it not being his main position, so similarly to Poch going with Colwill ahead of Maatsen really ...

Yeah because Dortmund have been so successful over the recent years....... The club are making moves where we'll likely end up with Osimhen in the summer, as well as having a fully fit Nkunku. Those two players playing regularly will guarantee goals. Edited January 21, 20242 yr by Malcolm9

I agree Osimhen is a huge risk and probably not one I'm willing to take all things considered. Nkunku for me, despite Bundi tax, is as close to a guarantee to be a success as it's possible to get. The only question mark towards him is having him fit.
