Straight 6 month loan with no option to buy. Weird as I thought we'd used up all our foreign loans.

Hope Maatsen does well for Dortmund, I like him as a player.

Ziyech coming back…

Haven’t we used up all our foreign loan allocations? We shouldn’t be entertaining a loan move from Dortmund, they haven’t spent the Bellingham money.

Haven’t read the regulations recently but I think as  Mattensen  is club trained player he doesn’t count in the number allowed.

If there is an obligation to buy, which sky sports website said this morning there isn't, then that makes sense.

If not it makes no sense to me. Sell or keep. Short term loan with no obligation is pointless. Our injury situation still means we may well need him on occasion do letting go for a handful of months with no real benefit to us seems daft

Or he has a fantastic season at Dortmund and comes back a different player. We saw what they did for Sancho, Bellingham etc. We can dream.

Sacnho is sh*t. So happy we didn't sign him before United did. There is a type of profile of player that doesn't work in the Premier League after being a success in Germany, Sancho is one of those players. Sancho, Kagawa, Werner, Havertz, Pulisic, they're all the same. Too lightweight, too soft, struggle against any team that doesn't play open or with a high line.

Romano saying he's signed a contract until 2027 but there's also a release clause that kicks in July 2024.

Sensible move, looks like it should get the Dortmund loan over the line.

Going to be a lot of questions if he goes and lights it up over there though

Lighting it up in the BL is a different thing to the PL. The list of BL stars coming up short in the PL lengthens by the season. BL is far less physical and defence can sometimes seem optional.

I think it also has positive FFP impact somehow, though I cant remember exactly what it was.

I'm not even sure he's going to get many starts ... Dortmund are bringing him in, it seems, as cover for a ligament injury to Julien Ryerson, who was sharing left back duties with Ramy Bensebaini, who has played more minutes this season than Ryerson.

Despite the Bellingham cash, the club sounds pretty broke LOL

Good luck to him anyway !

I agree, but logical thinking like that won't be matched by the media and the main fan base.

Maatsen will be good in Dortmund. He is a good player. In Chelsea at this moment we have better players in his position the way Pochettino sees it.

Good move to seal his extension. We will make a nice profit of him after his stint in Germany hopefully.

The Sancho situation isn't spoken about enough, many said he was the next ballon d'Or superstar, even I fell for a lot of the hype. I thought Southgate not selecting was very suspicious but given how sh*te of a manager he is I could well believe Southgate was just incompetent.

No, it turns out Sancho was just ridiculously overrated. I agree, be careful signing superstars from that league. With that said, Dortmund are extremely good at developing players, there could be something to this loan.

Also see Havertz as another example!

It all comes down to good scouting. De Bruyne, Lewandowski, Haaland, Ballack, they all did fine once they left Germany. The scrawny types always struggle though. I remember when I wanted Reus at his peak, but looking at how others turned out, I doubt he would have been a success in the Premier League. Even Christensen would go through periods where he struggled after looking brilliant in Germany. Schurrle was another one.

Maatsen already starts for Dortmund and by all accounts had a great game.

Good start, albeit they were playing the club that is bottom of the Bundesliga.

Sancho came on as sub, and had an assist. for one of the goals.
