I don't see why they're not comparable. Burnley walked the Championship, so having such good defensive numbers in that side is even more impressive. Are we never able to compare players unless they've played in the same league?

Playing against the likes of Reading, Blackpool, Wigan, Cardiff, QPR, Rotherham, etc? Last season they let in 35 goals for the season. This season they've already shipped 20. It's all relative.

Its what happens when you lose your best defender.

Man City tonked them 6-0 last season with Maatsen at LB.

They put 7 past Leipzig 4 days before that too. Burnley did better than a CL contending team.

Not to mention 6 past Utd, and 4 past us, Spurs and Madrid in a single game.

Good effort for a Championship club tbf.

You do back some strange horses at times RIP Mourinho LOL.

I think Maatsen is nailed on to be sold in January myself. And that's without any consideration for his contract status ... which only strengthens the case to sell him ...

If he can hardly even get a sub appearance, let alone a start, when half the squad is unavailable, then what chance does he have when they're all fit ?

KDB and Salah couldn't get game time either!

I've only ever once been wrong, and that's when I thought I was wrong and I was actually right.

Different leagues will always have their discrepancies when comparing footballers but we are genuinely talking about two leagues where one is a complete division down, and the disparity in quality is massive. This will lead to incorrect insight and analysis.

I could of sworn you made a post a few months back about Ugarte v Rice and how Rice's metrics should be held to a higher esteem considering he played in the Premier League. (If it wasn't you I apologize)

He is just too small and too weak to play fb. He lost every physical duel.

Did well ( ish) but once he started to get tired his lack of physicality became a major issue.

He won’t improve us if he comes off the bench and just can’t see him being first choice for any games

He simply can't cope with any physical duel. You want your defender to dominate attacker physically not the other way around.

He's a certainty for a sale in January.

Yes him turning down the move to Burnley in the summer hasn't helped at all because Poch's treatment of him  the areas he has been used in, and the stuttering performances he has put in in these differing roles, have, if any, decreased his value, particularly when looking at his pre season form and the amount that Poch was using him.

Whilst I don't disagree with any of the comments about Maatsen this season, for me it's another major question mark over Poch, simply due to how he was using him in the pre season matches to then completely ditch him.

I agree he needs to be sold but I suspect we have probably lost 10m of market value on him now.

Gutless lightweight.  You can be small physically but to add a lack of guts with that too is criminal.  Always pulls out like he is going to get hurt.  Should have scored last night if he had more guts and I partly blame him for their goal for the same reason.  The way he s### himself when the ball came towards him for the Brentford second goal earlier in the season said it all for me......

Dortmund are after him apparently.

Burnley offered 31.5mill for him in the summer, Dortmund less than half that I reckon.

Burnley offered less than 20m I  thought.

Was a late window move to try and make it happen.  Jan on Football therapy reported it and Dortmunds interest today. I forgot who he quoted about it.

Think it’s best he moves on. Doesn’t say much if he gets picked RW over his preferred LB position. Also, if we get tight I’d rather see Gusto cover LB than Maatsan play.

Doesn’t have a future in a top EPl side as a LB and not good enough to be a forward in my opinion.. so if someone is willing to pay 20-30 mil quid it should be a no brainer..

He'll be off to Dortmund for £25m.

Fast forward 3 years and he'll be off to Man City / Real / Bayern / Back to us for £75m.

I'd be amazed if that second bit happened.

More likely he ends up like Lamptey has at Brighton, where the qualities he does have still don't get him a regular game.

Not many players we sell end up being great somewhere else. Certainly none I can think of since De Bruyne and Salah were sold anyway ...
