Chiwell won't last the full season without breaking down a few times, Cucurella still yet to prove himself. Hall is not a natural LB despite a few games there, think the lad should at least get a go in pre-season. If we introduce Colwill into the set up and Badiashile is playing well, Colwill can also cover this position.
July 10, 20233 yr Apparently Pochettino has vetoed the club selling him as he's keen to assess him at preseason. Must value his attacking traits. Cucurella has interest in Spain and England.

July 12, 20233 yr very good player hope he can do to him what he did to Walker i see in him a potential Kyle Walker type player
July 20, 20232 yr Impressed he can play so comfortably further up field. Think Pochettino will really take a liking to him, perhaps see him as his 'Alli' and make a project out of him.
July 20, 20232 yr Truth be told I hadn't even noticed him bar the 2 goals (which was terrific work from Jackson). Thought he was rather ineffective at the wing. Still early, need to see more.

Hope he's second fiddle to Chilly next year, i feel like he can change him more than Cucu has/can.
July 27, 20232 yr That was an unbelievable pass for the goal. The vision and weight on that was just sublime. Didn't watch the game but also looks like he's well and truly jumped Lewis Hall in the pecking order. Gotta feel a bit for Hall but it's the name of the game really.

To be fair, Maatsen has been at the club or five years. Two seasons at the youth/dev-teams before three seasons away on loan. I actually had a feeling he was never going to break through. Credit to him - he looks exciting. Hall is still young - perhaps a loan to the Championship would be ideal. - Unless we sell Cucurella...
July 27, 20232 yr Right now, is Pochettino even thinking of Maatsen for left back at all ? He's picking him as a winger - if that's his new position then he isn't blocking Lewis Hall at all. Regardless, Hall needs a loan as the next step in his development for me.

I can't see him working as a LB given what my Burnley supporting friend told me. Long story short he made heaps of defensive mistakes which isn't a good sign given Burnley were probably the most dominant second tier team ever. I think we may see him in the front three more than we may anticipate next season, so far he's been low-key crucial to our press.
July 27, 20232 yr Well he can't be much worse defensively than Cucurella and at least he would offer more going forward... Also in the post match interview Pochettino spoke about him as one of four options for the LB spot, but said that the squad was unbalanced and that he had too few options up front available, whereas he has a multitude of options to choose from at LB, hence why he played the versatile Maatsen as a winger so far.
July 27, 20232 yr Interesting player. Think he played mostly at LB for Burnley, yeah? But has been a winger in pre-=season. So looks like he's quite versatile. Great assist last night as well. Think he should stay. Also, completely irrelevant to ability, but the fact that he looks so happy to be playing for us, always smiling, is good. We need more players who want to be here.
August 2, 20232 yr I've been impressed with him as much as anyone else on the tour. I mean, we sold a benchwarmer for 60 million and essentially replaced him with someone in-house who, from all evidence, is a better passer and better in transition phases. Edited August 2, 20232 yr by venom2011
August 7, 20232 yr I hope he stays as a squad player or potentially more. Did everything right preseason and looks a great player. His adaptability is an asset to any manager.
August 9, 20232 yr I'd be equally as annoyed at losing Maatsen as i was at the thought of losing colwill.
August 9, 20232 yr I'd be surprised given the game time - and his performances - in the friendlies. Unless it was a shop window thing. *shudders*

August 9, 20232 yr One year left. It seems new contract talks are under way. Pochettino wants to keep him.
