August 16, 20232 yr I imagine we have already told him but if we have not we should give Maatsen a very, very short window to sign up or sell him for whoever gives us 30mill
August 19, 20232 yr Maatsen Situation🚨 Despite ongoing contract negotiations, understand within chelsea internally, the stance is that Chelsea will be tempted for a sale if the right offer comes in, been told around 25-30m. Very similar to the Lewis Hall situation. Burnley and other clubs still monitoring. Let’s see what happens 👀, in coming days‼️ RT‼️ — Hopefully this is fake. Daft to keep selling academy players
August 31, 20232 yr Is Cole Palmer really worth £45m when we have Maatsen that can play in all the positions he'd be covering until Nkunku is back? Class again last night.

August 31, 20232 yr This is frustrating. He looks the real deal. Yes he is small which may be an hindrance in defence but his pace, effervescent character on and off the ball and his eye for a quality pass and shot at goal should mean he is a shoe in for an improved contract and cementing a place in the squad. Considering a) Chilwell will likely have some time out, b) even without European football there will still be an extensive domestic programme, c) I have not looked but I suspect we may be losing players for a period due to AFCON, and d) if we need profit for FFP then Sep 23 and Jun 24 come into the same reporting period, then why not give the lad his chance this season under an improved contract with a real fighting opportunity. If we get it right we either have a great developing player or an appreciating asset for sale in the market in the future.
August 31, 20232 yr I imagine if he stays after the window shuts he gets decent game time and signs an extension.

I get the feeling he will be sold by the end of the window as he is putting us in the same situation Mount did.

September 1, 20232 yr Jacob Steinburg saying Maatsen is reluctant to go despite the accepted offer...
September 1, 20232 yr Annoying that out of cucurella, hall and Maatsen the sh*ttest one has stayed. It is a lot of money but still
September 1, 20232 yr Burnley have agreed £31.5m package deal for Ian Maatsen from Chelsea — fee includes add ons. There’s still no green light from player side 🚨🟣 Chelsea would also have sell on clause as part of the deal.

September 1, 20232 yr I hope he agrees the move. He's not in the frame for LB for us, with zero minutes there under Poch in both pre-season and season-to-date, and we have far better options than him further forward.
September 1, 20232 yr Terrible business all around if this is the case from the club. Looks a genuinely solid player and more than holds his own in this team.

Yep not wrong there, Hall and Maatsen also had clubs after him, we can't sell Cucurella to anyone at the minute. I've always said though that I'm happy to give Cucurella another season here to prove himself but didn't think it would be at the expense of both promising academy LBs
September 1, 20232 yr Looks like he is off. Disappointing, but inevitable since we gave that ball and chain Cucurella. Maatsen to Burnley with sell on clauses that make his return in a couple of years a possibility if he develops even further. Not too fussed with this one.

Is this going to be the thing going forward, just selling academy products for profit and overpaying for youth products around the globe? At some point very soon IMO the well would run dry. Hypothetically Gallagher, James & Broja are the only ones we can shift for big money next season. 8 minutes ago, abister1 said: Why is he reluctant to go if he is stalling signing a new contract. We probably want him to sign one of those daft 8yr deals, and like with Hall the club can turn around next min and sell him.
