I keep hearing there is stinging criticism of Southgate yet no-one in TV says a word against him. His voice on ITV today was kind of strangled as though he had just left the press and got an ear bashing yet was sticking to his guns, very strange. The barrage of stinging criticism is in full swing!
June 20, 20242 yr Then again 1990 World Cup. First two games fairly dross. But Bobby Robson was flexible enough to adapt and make changes. Not sure head in the sand Southgate has that mental dexterity
June 20, 20242 yr Kanes interview is very telling...watch it and see how he hints to having to work out where he and the others should be! Wtf is Southgate doing then? Prepping the BBQ and beers for cuddles! He's tactically inept...the players have to figure it out on their own. After that interview, I'm less angry at the players but even more sure and livid that Southgate is a great man manager (you can tell by how not one player wants to lay the blame at his feet even though they know he isn't helpful) but is NOT a tactical coach. Pls pls...Southgate to Man utd. Lol Edited June 20, 20242 yr by Simplymo

He's seen a season of Arteta surrounding him with technical players (Jorgi, Partey when fit, dropping Odegaard deep) to allow him to focus on what he is great at yet decides to play him in effectively a one man midfield. Staggering. Edited June 20, 20242 yr by Argo

June 20, 20242 yr Southgate follows in a long line of England managers since 1966 who have won nothing,.none of them could even get England to a final. Not even Venables or Bobby Robson,.just Southgate, and I reckon that that not only tells us more about our managers but also about generations of over hyped. England players and teams. Laughably,. Shearer, Lineker, etc never reached a final but are preaching as if they were serial tournament trophy winners ! But we're through, you never know!

Yeah, finally Lineker says something. Southgate is a great man manager, a big buddy to the players, they won't say a bad thing about his coaching. But players having to figure out tactics themselves on the pitch needs to be called out.
June 20, 20242 yr Denmark lost to us due to a blatant Sterling dive penalty award in the last Euro's. Now they get a ref who gave us every decision tonight.

English players weren't overhyped, how can that be true when they have won so much? It's just that coaching hasn't been on the same level as other European coaches for 30 years now. Even the so called good ones weren't good enough. When was the last time an English coach revolutionised the sport? It never happens. June 20, 20242 yr Nothing will ever change until we play games at Premiership tempo, or as close to it as tournament temperature will allow
June 20, 20242 yr I know he's our player, so obviously I am going to have some bias here, but how the f**k do you leave a player like Palmer out of the side two games running? It would be different if they were playing well, but they're not. I guarantee if you asked Southgate he would use some bollocks experience excuse. Palmer didn't have much experience when he signed for us, but look at the season he had. That Arda Guler kid for Turkey has been thrown in at the age of 19 and he scored the best goal of the tournament so far. Then you look at Spain, they have a 16 year old kid on the wing! I'm so tired England's lack of progressiveness. It's always so outdated and conservative. No courage, always held back with a fear of making a mistake.

Not sure head in the sand Southgate has that mental dexterity The eventual winners are rarely the best looking side in the group stages. Teams grow into tournaments, the good coaches realise that the balance is wrong…I’m not sure though that Southgate has it in him to make the radical changes required. Personally, I’d move Foden to the 10. Drop Bellingham to the 8 , bring Gordon in on the left. Short of a LB ? Unless the opponent has a particularly dangerous winger, Saka could do a job there or at least be moved there as an attacking substitution like he’s done for the Gooners. Allowing Palmer in on the right.

England players win trophies playing in teams packed with some of the best foreigner players around. And they have spent years being coached by foreign managers. They've been overhyped for generations,.fans have unrealistic expectations. England have NEVER won the first 2 games in the Euro's. Anyway, let's see how it pans out. I remember England getting a heroes welcome from thousands of ecstatic fans after losing a WC semi final,.that says it all !

You could also say those teams wouldn't win anything without the English players though. Would we have won all we won without Terry and Lampard? I don't think so. Would Real Madrid have won the league and Champions League this season without Bellingham? Maybe, but it would have been very difficult. Would City have been as good as they have been without Foden? No, they probably would have lost the league to Arsenal. United dominated the Premier League under Ferguson with English players at their core. The players aren't overhyped, the FA constantly bringing in the wrong coach is the issue. I haven't agreed with a single appointment they have made in decades.
June 20, 20242 yr I’m convinced if Maddison had a better end to the season Palmer wouldn’t of even made the squad. Southgate is too rigid, has his favourites and is a yes man. He’s not an elite manager at the end of the day. Fancy shoehorning TAA into that midfield team because of his ‘passing ability’ but having the other necessary midfield qualities clearly don’t matter. If Maguire was fit Guehi wouldn’t even be playing, just let that sink in. Edited June 20, 20242 yr by 2211
June 20, 20242 yr "We don't have a natural replacement for Kalvin Phillips".......this is the level of sh*t we have to deal with. You have abundance of English midfielders that you could have taken and made something out of. If you can't make a midfield out of Rice and one of Gallagher, Mainoo, Loftus-Cheek, Bellingham, Wharlton, Jones, Ward-Prowse then you need to go. There are option there to make an excellent midfield or at least a competent one without resorting to desperation and picking Alexander-Arnold who will perform worse than every single one of them.
