We don't have the best squad on the planet but last time Lampard was here and it was apparently the players fault then they won the UCL once a top coach came in. This time 2 years ago people were defending Steve Bruce because they thought the Newcastle squad were a bigger issue than him, 9 of the lineup that smashed Spurs 6-1 to all but secure a top 4 finish were part of that group. There's problems that go beyond Frank, but this is the first time we've looked THIS tactically bankrupt since the last time he was here, it's not a coincidence. This is quite simply incorrect. None of Nick Pope, Kieran Trippier, Sven Botman, Dan Burn, Bruno Guimaraes and Alexander Isak (6 out of 11) played for Newcastle when Steve Bruce was in charge. With Steve Bruce's squad, Eddie Howe's Newcastle won 1 out of 9 games. Of course, managers play a part in success, but their role is very overstated because people have this (most likely natural) belief that authorities are somehow more important than those with less authority. In reality, football is a sport played between 11 players from both sides. What these do on the pitch usually decides the outcome of the game. Its not some sort of armwrestling game between coaches.

Can anyone recommend a site where these types of stats are recorded please? Unfortunately a few years ago some big stat company bought the running/distance stats, selling the data to clubs for big money. For this reason, the running statistics aren't publicly available other than once in a blue moon when the PL or a broadcaster pay up to publish some of the numbers. May 3, 20233 yr How many goals is that now from opposition shots outside our box? We need to start defending those shots better. We need to start shooting outside the box ourselves, not be so passive. We try to build up around the box and inside, but barely any decent shots from outside the box.

I don't believe he is solely the issue here or close to it, the players mentality is sh*t and has been most of this season. We had the same problem under Mourinho and he was an elite coach with far better players in the team. There seems to be a running theme at Chelsea. We are the only so called "top club" that has been near the relegation zone in the last 10 seasons. That isn't normal for a club like Chelsea, especially not in the last 20+ years. I like lamp but I will say tactic wise, lamp can be questionable and crazy at times. But who the hell care. He is here only for one month
May 3, 20233 yr Frank said Madueke deserved to play because all week he trained so well.... does that mean Sterling was good in training as well

Hmm no, if you concede constantly from outside the box the problem is your gk

May 3, 20233 yr I'm as flat as ever about the team. Nothing else can be said that hasn't been said previously. This is the lowest we've been in 30+ years. Looking forward to the summer and hopefully a proper reset from next season.
May 3, 20233 yr Belief is what the team needs....once we can get a balanced side playing and get a couple of wins under their belts belief will come....then results will ensue.....obviously for next season ....... If you look at other teams they have belief and convince themselves of their capability...

Maybe we should have an All or Nothing series and overhype every action, celebrating every goal as if each individual had won the Euromillions. The library has never been so loud, so it seems to work in some quarters. Of course employing a tw@t to jump up and down waving his arms around at every decision helps as well Edited May 3, 20233 yr by WhiteWall

May 3, 20233 yr It really pisses me off watching pathetic displays knowing they will still get their massive wages. Maybe they would try harder if they didn't get paid if they lost. When I was 14 as well as school I'd just started work in a pub kitchen 20 hours a week cycling 6 miles every shift. A school football match midweek club match weekend paying 50p subs training and putting in a great deal of effort. They all need a kick up the ass.

Don’t remind me!! Was at the game, similar kind of issue at the time. Trouble in the squad With senior players wanting out. Played young players not good enough.
May 3, 20233 yr Haaland scored just as I was calling up the site, but point I was going to make still stands…West Ham have put us further to shame tonight…showed far more bollox and desire than we did last night.

Some of the players are being punished because their wages are getting cut for not being in the cl..Sterling isn’t one of them though as the clause wasn’t put in his contract.
