Cole Palmer signs for Chelsea!

Featured Replies

Media are keeping it on the down low however one rumor I have heard is Cole picked up a slight injury prior to Leicester, made it worse, missed Arsenal, went for a couple of scans in Saudi during the international break, and is playing on pain killing injections now.

Does not explain his form dropping off a cliff prior to that, does explain why he is taking on far less shots now

If he's not match fit, why pick him to play 2 games in about 3 days? I still don't get why we played a first 11 against Warsaw on Thursday? Sure, we will likely to rest lots of them next round, but the damage was done yesterday. For me, Palmer is playing further away from the goal, the real shot he had was in the dying minutes. He used to be around the edge of the box all game, that role has been taken by lesser players.

The Enzo Effect in full view with Palmer.

Not a stretch to say he was the most entertaining young player in World Football last year (Lamine Yamal is a one trick pony) under a Manager who let him express himself to, quite honestly since Christmas an absolute no show and more a detriment to the side.

Seeing him picking the ball up next to Caiceido is absolutely disgusting, no reason he should ever be that deep. Coupled with the insistence to play him through the middle where he is continually crowded out and nullified.

Maresca is totally to blame and is destroying anything entertaining this squad could potentially offer

Palmers form has clearly hit a dip. Now that could be down to injuries / a niggle. It could be down to him just having a real purple patch those first 18 months and now he's struggling to maintain that. But IMO, playing under Maresca has to be a significant factor and as I detest Maresca so much, I'm happy to put all the blame on him.

Therefore, by neutralising our most talented player by far, for that alone, Maresca deserves the sack. Please make it happen.

Even if one was inclined to generously interpret the club recruitment strategy as a somewhat high-risk, but "educated" gamble - buying a lot of players with "potential" with the hope that some will turn out to be genuinely world-class and being prepared to write-off the ones that don't - the one thing you absolutely cannot do is f**k it up when your high-stakes bet has worked out.

Not getting the most out of Palmer undermines the whole "strategy". You buy 10 over-priced "young prospects". 1-2 will come good. If your manager then somehow manages to nullify the one that comes good - the whole thing is a failure.

I think even in a land where the the owners give zero sh*ts about success on the pitch and are just buying players to sell, they have to start asking questions about Maresca's effect on Palmer, he's probably wiped tens of millions off his valuation since Christmas.

100%.

Arguably the most dangerous player in the world at RW with an over lapping full back to take the defender away and for him to drift inside unmarked. Now he's picking the ball up and has 2 holding mids and 2 CB's infront of him every time. Painful to watch.

Playing devils advocate a bit here but he missed a tonne of sitters against Southampton and Villa and a pen against Leicester. Went close with edge of the box shots against Ipswich and Brentford at the death.

He should really a bare minimum of 2 goals from the above. If he gets 2/3 goals as he should have, is anyone speaking of a dip in form?

Pretty much that. A manager is meant to fix things, not to break something that's proven to be working, e.g. Palmer's goal scoring. Instead, after a sound start of the season, all the sudden Palmer's been shifted from his usual zone, week after week been drifted out of the game, and we can't even get him to score once a month.

Yah, wasn't he doing well down the left with Noni... seems like Enzo was given that area and Cole was moved over to the right... a long time ago now ?

Needs to pull his head out of his ass to be honest. I've defended Palmer a lot, and still will when it comes to how Marseca is playing him, but some of his misses would have some saying it's sabotage. That miss early in the game shouldn't be difficult for him, but he just smashed it high and wide. He was furious with himself for missing a chance to score his 5th goal against Brighton at the start of the season, now he's just looking in air, pulling a Sterling and smiling. I haven't seen a top quality shot from him in months now.

I don't know where his focus has gone, but it's certainly not on the pitch, his decision making in all areas is poor.

Geninue question, as I am not sure which it is.

Has Cole just given up on Maresca, or this club in general?

I think he's mentally checked out and will probably leave this summer.

He became an international sensation last year. Olympians were mimicking his celebration at the Olympics, so were students in their graduation ceremonies.

He could arguably play for any team in the world, yet he finds himself stuck with sh*t teammates and an amateur manager in a mid table team. He's going to want to jump ship before the world forgets him.

Actually, I wouldn’t be surprised if he really did take a pain-killing injection. I remember reading a report that he did the same thing during a youth match for Manchester City back in the day. Oh, and funnily enough, I think the coach at the time was also Maresca.

To where though? No one is paying the £120m+ we would demand presently given his form. Any potential buyers will want to see if it’s a temporary blip or if he is done. A fantastic 18mth sample size is too small for that fee & the wages he will demand.

Seems weird to say, but I hope he is injured, because I haven't seen a fall off this bad since Hazard in 2015/16. And if he is injured, just don't play him, because he's next to useless right now.

Also, if he is injured, this is all the more reason why we should have kept Chukwuemeka and Felix instead of sending them out on loan.
