I don't think the excellence of our current central defenders are keeping him out of the squad, more that he's an academy product, in fact Chelsea academy player of the year 2024. I'd love to be wrong (and I have been before) but for me he's (level wise) going to end up closer to a Lewis Bate than a Marc Guehi. Edited August 9, 20241 yr by Argo

August 9, 20241 yr Straight into the starting line up for Sheffield this evening, and played 72 minutes in their opening Championship fixture away against Preston. A 2-0 win and a clean sheet. Looks like he played at right back based on the line up on Whoscored 🙂

August 6, 2025Aug 6 I like this bloke i hope we keep him albeit with the odd loan here and there. Hes got the Chelsea spirit and he wouldnt fetch a fortune so lets keep him please! He could be a valuable squad member in years to come. Hes good value and would never be a passenger. When he scored that goal you could have thought he had won the lottery. Edited August 6, 2025Aug 6 by OneTommyLangley

August 7, 2025Aug 7 I like him and his passion but out of all the academy players we’ve brought through over the years I don’t think he’s PL quality. Miles off the likes of Acheampong. Not big enough for CB and not technical enough for full back imo, it’s a shame. Hope he has a good career wherever he ends up.
August 7, 2025Aug 7 He's just...okay. I'm sure he can do a job at a mid or lower table team, worse defenders than him are currently in PL.I don't see us getting much so might as well sell cheapish and add a buy back clause just in case.
August 29, 2025Aug 29 He'll have a stellar career in the Championship, wish him nothing but the best.

August 29, 2025Aug 29 His contract expires in June, so that'll drop his valuation. £2 million is better than nothing.
August 29, 2025Aug 29 Being voted Academy Player of the Year seems to be the kiss of death as far as having any longevity in your Chelsea career goes ... Good luck to Alfie anyway. Good memories of some crunching tackles and that cracking goal he scored.Would have thought we'd get similar to what we got for Bashir Humphreys ... I guess they've allowed his contract to run down too much without making him feel valued enough to sign a new one.

February 26Feb 26 I watched some of the Sheff Utd v Coventry game last night and didn't realise Gilchrist wasn't still at Utd. Looked him up and see he went to West Brom but is struggling to get many games with them.Shame, but just goes to show you need a bit more than passion to make it at the top level.

'Tis a shame. And a bit strange. Chris Wilder said he really liked him at SU. I remember he had a few injuries there.
