Hasn't been called up at any level for the national team. I'm all for that considering how poor we've been at the back this season. Just get me an average defender that won't look like a deer in the headlights every time someone runs at him or crosses the ball into the area.

James and Silva were averaging conceding 2 goals per 90. I don't think any sort of personnel can help this mess of a defensive structure. Was funny. Last night I watched the first episode of that City Treble documentary on Netflix. After the match against Palace where they conceded 2 set pieces, the next day all Pep and his coaching staff did in training was focusing on defending set pieces from different situations. Didn't concede a set piece after. Had me wondering if we ever bothered. Edited April 3, 20242 yr by Sconnie Blue
April 4, 20242 yr Alfie and Trev at CB for Sheff United? Not going to happen I know. Could they do worse than Disasi and Badiashile?
April 5, 20242 yr Looks very limited but so do most CB's when they're asked to play full back. Would want to see him have a season at CB on loan somewhere first.
April 15, 20242 yr His goal celebration was one of my favourite moments of the season, just pure joy.

April 16, 20242 yr Delighted for him, hit it so sweetly and it clearly meant the world to him (and the rest of us). Looks like a proper thug too. Someone get @Gem on the horn, we might have another Jody Morris on our hands.
April 16, 20242 yr A proper old school footballer. Reminds me of some of our academy products from yesteryear. Great strike and a great celebration to go with it.

I love it how the supporters are as deliriously happy when one of our own scores his first goal - at the Bridge no less - as the kid himself
April 18, 20242 yr Will be interesting to see what we do with him in the summer. Love his attitude and work rate but realistically he gets nowhere near once reece is fit. However, we know what reece's injury record is like and gilchrist would be useful to have waiting in the wing if needed. Would just be a shame to potentially stunt his career by holding him back in case it happens as I think he'd benefit from a loan

First and foremost he's a CB, he needs minutes in the middle to see if his height will be an issue. Don't think he has the tools to be a full back in the Prem.
April 19, 20242 yr I haven't seen that much of him , apart from a couple of FA cups starts he usually gets a few minutes as a sub in some PL games. I don't know how good he is or isn't tbh , and would need to see a bit more of him fitst ? But I will admit that I said Morata was a cross between Osgood and Hutchinson after just a few games !! 😜
August 5, 20241 yr He won't be back! They will be hoping he has a great season in Sheffield to be put in the shop window next year! There was a time we'd send players on load to ripen them up for putting on a Chelsea shirt again in the Prem, now it's just about putting more value on them!
August 7, 20241 yr Confirmation. https://www.chelseafc.com/en/news/article/alfie-gilchrist-completes-loan-move
August 7, 20241 yr Good for Alfie maybe this will lead to better opportunities to play first team ball.

That seems most likely outlook sadly. Successful loan will allow Clearlake to maximize the 100% profit in next summer's window.

Yep, good luck to the lad but think it's a case of "another one bites the dust".
August 9, 20241 yr If there's outrage over Gilchrist leaving it would be ridiculous. He's not even in his best position coming through.

August 9, 20241 yr Weird one this...but I definitely recall maresca mentioning acheampong several times as one that will help the first team squad. I hope its all "ITK" bo**ocks as the number of rumours flying about in rgds to different Chelsea players have exploded in the last few days. And tbh I believe we are nowhere near done in this window yet. Lots of outgoings still to happen.

So because he has played out of position it's ok if he leaves ? I don't think the excellence of our current central defenders are keeping him out of the squad, more that he's an academy product, in fact Chelsea academy player of the year 2024.
