Did we try to force the offense through the middle?

This is my biggest take watching Leicester game last season.

more a case of trying to thumb in a softy..,,,

Yes. Zero underlapping or overlapping to support the wingers when the ball did get wide. Ball was either recycled backwards or a player miscontrolled it 90% of the time.

This was my biggest worry from watching Leicester clip.

The offense idea is about getting the ball in the middle, between the line. I don't know whether that is a personel thing or maresca thing. It looks like it is maresca thing.

Leicester was running PL team in championship so it doesn't matter.

His system is flooding the midfield and we will need players to play 1 touch football to be effective..

with the full back tucked in our wingers are getting double teamed and need the midfield to show better movement.. the few times CC came Towards Angelo we looked decent.

It's all about fitness at this stage.

The three in defence looked very good in the first half.

James and Caicedo will provide a lot of steel in the center of midfield and give Enzo and Palmer the freedom to make things click from their positions.

Second half showed why most of those players, except maybe Fofana, will either leave on loan or start the season on the bench.

The passing was abysmal. Badiashile particularly culpable.
‘far too many players loose on the ball and giving it away trying to beat three players 1 on 1

not enough movement off the ball

team can only improve.

Hmm, pretty uninspiring albeit first game. System doesn’t do much for Reece or Gusto who kept cutting inside. Losing our best outlets there.

Yeah, I'm worried about that.

Before the match I though which side inverts would be more dynamic. Gusto and reece are great at overlapping and crossing into the box. I understand if noni was on then the other side invert but gusto in particular doesn't look comfortable inverting.

Only watched 20 minutes whilst up for a piss in the middle of the night but we looked in total control and scored the goal. Outside of that I've no idea but it sounds like we were poor, especially second half.

It's pre season and completely meaningless. I'm looking forward to the Celtic match on Saturday night.

We were too static and our play had no clear route to goal. We regularly resulted to long ball as midfield had zero penetration. Wrexham played a low block and we lacked overlapping width. So lots of posssession for the back 3 and midfield giving them the ball back. When we did try to work something out in midfield it was too crowded and they were waiting for it.

Ended up being pretty much what I expected. Our side was stronger in the first half and they were playing some decent stuff once they settled in. Was much more scattered in the second, but that’s probably to be expected with the demand of sticking to learning the new system. The central 3 weren’t as balanced in the second half either.

Patience is going to be needed with this, which is tough after the few years we’ve had. Already some promising signs of progress though

Only watched the highlights but my POV is:

Pros

- Tryrique George looked sharp, as did Angelo.

- Reece and Colwill have to start in whatever back line we play, head and shoulders the best defenders at the club.

- Nkunku HAS to stay fit, huge player for us.

- Guiu looked energetic and sharp, wouldn't against him playing backup to Jackson this season.

- Full 90 for Chukwuemeka is a good start, need him to stay fit.

Cons

- Possession for the sake of possession, Sarri vibes.

- Badiashile, Acheampong, Tosin all looked pretty poor and clumsy.

- Bergstrom was very poor.

- Expected more from Madueke.

Anyone watch the full game and know how Lavia did?

I watched about 70% and Lavia looked good.  Chukwumeka can play a lot better.
oh yeah I forgot that Badiashile missed a first time 6 yard unmarked sitter.

Maesca's system is REALLY REALLY turgid against a low block, as it isn't dynamic enough to break them down.

Once you have teams pressing you in the PL, you are more likely to see quick transitions and overloads in midfield.

When it clicks, it can be a thing of beauty and you can tear teams apart in seconds... but when it doesn't, or when teams sit in, it's a game of chess to try to move the players around the create an opening....

you "should" have the squad to do well in the PL this year, Maresca's system is likely to bring you success more often than not... but it definitely isn't exhilarating to watch.

Despite winning the championship last year, I don't think i've ever felt more bored watching Leicester. which is a crazy thing to say given our points total!

Did Fofana get any minutes?
