Disagree. Our last pre-season friendly against Real Sociedad both Neto and Palestra played as the WB. Albeit Neto was RWB. That was what I think Alonso had in his mind for home games. If we played Fulham at home I think Neto and Palestra both would have played. But agree to disagree.

Only logical reason I can see is we’re tying them down to new deals so we can maximise their value when we sell them in summer. Logically, it makes no other sense.

Happy with that as long as its one that involves his Hairdresser.

He’s running the charisma/personality in dressing room game on the club, seems to be well liked. Funny because after most performances last season I was googling to re-check his contract expiry, no point now.

That would be to insert release clauses in both Neto and Gusto’s contracts. That’s how I read into it anyway. Both wanted away and both were priced out the market

I think Neto is a useful player, as I've stated many times.

Now, that doesn't mean we can't improve on him, even if we're looking for similar characteristics.

With that out of the way, this is a squad problem, not a Neto problem. If we had, or end up signing, a better player with similar or different characteristics, that player would naturally start more games, and Neto would become an interesting option off the bench.

A club that aims to be playing CL football routinely cannot think about getting rid of players; it's about improving the squad.

Got his contract extension and was back to being sh*t. Really poor performance today, looked as clueless as ever on the wing.

I think Neto is a useful player, but Estevao should have been brought on 20 minutes earlier.

No idea why the contract was ever improved, he still had 5yrs left on a ridiculous £160k/w wages. We have now improved that just to extend it for an extra year. He is only serviceable as a WB as things stand, never as a winger.

Alonso, and all of us on here, have to believe and have faith in Estevao.

Neto is a good squad option, and he is certainly working harder at the defensive side of his game, but he must not be any kind of barrier to Estevao's development. Estevao has to be the first choice. And if the kid has a few off games, we suck it up and stick with him. He is different gravy.

Lose Estevao and it will be a Salah and De Bruyne level of a mistake.

A leopard never changes his spot. I seem to remember Cucurella and Jackson signed a contract extension shortly before we sold him, got to hope it’s a similar deal.
