Sunderland vs Chelsea (PL) Sunday 24th May 16:00 GMT

I read somewhere that winning the conference was worth ~ 18 million, winning the Europa ~ 23 million and making the knock outs in the Champions League was ~ 28 million.

I do love to see us play European Football so will be hoping for any involvement next year. Europa/Conference is probably our level just now.

So ive got my fingers crossed for football for us, and a more modest return for those Clearlake/Blue Co people.

Hoping for Europa but I don’t not want to qualify for Conference. Blood a lot of youngster, cheap tickets on a Thursday and probably win it again.

Not sure we will get either though as Sunderland will be up for it at home and a chance of Europe.

I honestly hope we lose, there feels like a real opportunity domestically speaking next season and any European competition that isn’t the Champions League isn’t worth the hassle.

Giving Alonso a full week, most weeks, on the training pitch to implement his ideas without having to overly worry about rotation and fitness, it’s 1st season Conte vibes.

Slot looks to be taking the dippers backward. Carrick is Solskjaer version 2. Maresca replacing Guardiola is the biggest downgrade in recent memory and there isn’t a chance SOMETHING isn’t done this summer about set pieces which will nullify Arsenal entirely.

If we have no Europe, I don't think it will massively benefit us. If you're sh*t, you're sh*t. Villa, Arsenal and City haven't been affected by Europe because they are good.

We've had plenty of games playing against teams with less rest and injures and we have still faulterd. Good players and teams win regardless.

5th CL spot is not guaranteed every single season. English clubs could have an average season and we go back to four clubs qualifying automatically. A Chelsea win and a United win/draw at Brighton would take us to Europa League which we should aim for next season as it could be the easiest way back to CL football. A smart transfer window this summer and a good squad management by Alonso should be enough to win that competition.

I agree it should be a major opportunity (as was this year and last year) but I can’t see bridging a gap of 30 odd points and 6-8 places. Obviously Conte did that and Liverpool got close after bad seasons under Klopp but they’d been champions before.

I can’t see any way in which this team wins the title next year so I’d rather be in Europe.

The Conference League? To what end?

Already said - blood younger players, cheap accessible tickets and probably win it.

In any event, we should be qualifying for CL next season but I don’t see a league challenge so I’d rather be in Europe than not.

Or, alternatively, give the new manager an uninterrupted season to do his job.

Yeah might as well throw the League and Fa cup at the first hurdle while we’re at it too.

He’s gonna have to learn how to manage the squad with midweek games at some stage if he’s going to be successful at Chelsea.

I can see the logic behind wanting mid weeks free but it’s not something I can get behind as a supporter.

I can see the logic of either routes - European football, Conference / Europa and the squad players get some game time or no European football and a much reduced schedule of games. I dont know how many players we are planning to offload in the summer but a lack of Europe would certainly allow for more. Interestingly i dont think Alonso will persevere with players who arent up to it, unlike the previous bloke who thought everyone was outstanding because Winstanley and Stewart told him to. So i can see the benefit of no Europe. I cant bring myself to wanting us to lose though. Im going for a 1-0 Chelsea win with all/ most results going for us and a safe landing in the Europa league ( thoroughly undeserved too )

If Brighton fail to win, I want us to win to get Europa. If Brighton win then yeah, I don't want to be in the Conference League. We been it in once and yes, while we won it all, we are too big to be in that competition again and would feel embarrassed.

Every Spurs I know would surrender a testicle if they were guaranteed to be in the UEFA Conference League next year rather than the Championship.

Win and end the season high. I'm not overly bothered where we land on the ladder in the end.

Fingers crossed that as this is happening, Spurs are getting relegated 😁

I'm more interested in the relegation battle today. Should be fun. Although I think the Conference League is just a UEFA money grab I think the club are getting a bit sniffy about qualifying given our recent successes. There are only 4 trophies exclusively available for Prem teams. The title, Champs League, Europa and Conference. Yes we're a big club but we've got a poor team. That's why we're where we are. There are Prem teams who would love to be where we are. Football is for the fans. See what Palace fans think of the Conference if they win. Ask what Villa fans think of the Europa. I say go for it. We're not too big to be involved in any (proper) competition.
