I have to be honest and say I am very picky about films, especially comedy, and extra especially American comedy.

But one film that I keep going back to for some is 'Office Space', it's one of those films that is so funny without even trying.

The Guest.

Starring Dan Stevens of Downton Abbey fame.

"A soldier introduces himself to the Peterson family, claiming to be a friend of their son who died in action."

Basically go into the film blind, the less you know about the plot the better because it unravels nicely.

Not going to win any Oscars but it's a bit of a fun and I would recommend it.

7/10

Avengers Age of Ultron and it was a let down 6/10

Yeah it was not good, just seems more interested in laying the groundwork for the next 30 sequels instead of telling an engaging story.

Saw Mad Max last night. 10/10

Paddington. It was a laugh a minute. I also have a hankering for marmalade now, even though I'm not a big fan of oranges. 9/10

We took the great nephew to see that. I was somewhat releuctant, but pleasantly surprised, really enjoyed it.

We have recently seen Far From the Madding Crowd, beautifully shot.

Guardians of the Galaxy - 4.5/10

one or two laughs but just about dragged myself through to the end.

Avengers Age of Ultron - 4/10

Didn't finish it. Very poor.

Fast and the Furious 7 - 4/10

The acting in some of these big budget action films are truly dreadful.

Kingsman - 4/10

Again, surprised at how good people thought this was.

Next Three Days - 7.5/10

With Russel Crowe. A few years old now. Engaging from start to finish pretty much. Action, suspense, characters you actually want to watch. So much better than all these expensive, noisy, exploding CGI cartoonish nonsense.

I've just seen an interesting, moving and witty film* that touched on many issues: the problems faced by a Farmer in the modern agricultural industry; the demanding daily grind required to keep livestock healthy; the conflict between the rural and urban worlds; the treatment by local authorities of unwanted pets; poor transport links in rural areas; the question posed by 'Animal Farm' - are all animals equal?; and lastly the complex subject of anthropomorphism*

*Shaun the Sheep - the Movie. Very good 9/10.

Glad it was good, Shaun for me embodies the rural struggle against encroaching city living and has a hidden depth that shows an incredible understanding of emotional dichotomy...

And its funny when he falls over.

Watched fast and furious 7 last night, it as stupid and fun. All of them are. Turn your brain of fun.

Been to see a few recently:

Still Alice - harrowing, superbly acted

A Royal Night Out - complete baloney but hugely enjoyable

The Water Diviner - would have been better if I hadn't seen the trailer which gave away too much of the story.  But pretty good.

A Little Chaos - Kate Winslet playing a 17th century gardener at the court of Louis the whatever.  Enjoyed at the time bur fairly forgettable ultimately

Going to see Far From the Madding Crowd next week

White House Down. I don't know what I'd have thought of the film if I'd seen it without first seeing 'Olympus Has Fallen'. It was a good watch but a 6 or 7 out of ten.

Just watched 'Kajaki' on DVD. It is a new UK war film about what happened to a group of soldiers guarding the Kajaki dam in Afghanistan in 2006. It is a very impressive film; quite different from your average US war film (I don't mean that in a negative way about more usual war films) and it really brought home what our soldiers sometimes endure on our collective behalf. Recommended.

Recently watched - San Andreas.......it wasn't for the Rock its just another good special effects movie

                                Survivor .....meh..

                                Spy.....stupid
