I've never made it all the way through Godfather III, it's just so poo in comparison to the first two.

Today I watched A Good Day To Die Hard or Die Hard 5.

3/10, just awful. When you consider how perfect the original is it's just sad to see what a mess the series has become. Everything about it is just bad. Apparently John McLane in his 60's is essentially indestructible.

Also watched the first Austin Powers, haven't watched it in a few years but it still makes me laugh. Decent comedy films are so few and far between.

Due to our recent Hemingway obsession, my friend and I decided to watch the 1957 version of The Sun Also Rises (Fiesta). It was fun to watch once and the aesthetics were nice, but it was ultimately disappointing. Loads of key aspects of the book were missing, the pacing was weird and the characterisation was poor. I can understand that it would be a difficult book to translate into film considering a lot of it happens within Jake's (the protagonist) own head but I'm not sure I'd really understand anybody's motives if I hadn't read the book. I did like how they portrayed Bill (my favourite character in the book), but I wish he had had more screen time. 5.5/10

On a more relevant note - Thor, 7.5/10. Getting geared up for Age of Ultron that will be 100/10.

I really enjoyed Thor. Out of the recent Marvel films I've seen the first Thor, the first Iron Man, and both Captain America films.

I plan on finally watching Avengers Assemble this week... I'm looking forward to it.

Last night's film was recent British flick called '71. It's set in 1971 and tells the story of a young rookie soldier who is sent to Belfast as a 'peace keeper' and finds himself (thanks to his woefully inexperienced commanding officer), wounded and stranded in the middle of enemy territory (i.e. the republican area) with seemingly the whole of town (both sides) out to find him. It's a very gripping, well made film and I highly recommend it. Not for the faint-hearted.

Edge of Tomorrow - great film, thought they handled the need to repeat scenes and how they did it perfectly. 8/10, Emily Blunt near perfection and Tom Cruise on top form.

The Big Heat. Classic crime film made in 1953. Starring Glenn Ford, Gloria Grahame and Lee Marvin.

Film noir doesn't get much better does it? Fritz Lang at his cruelest perhaps - what a f**kin great director he was. Definitely in top 10 of noirs ever made.

Room 237. A way too long massively incoherent boring mess. I thought the theories might at least be entertaining, if not plausible, but no. Not worth a roll of tin foil, let alone the time it takes to watch it. Massive waste of time.

Worth it to moi, since it brought you back to the fold!

Fast and Furious 7

The stunts are getting far fetched and ridiculous but so what...it`s supposed to be entertaining.

Very sad and poignant ending and in the film.

Had a lump in my throat.

R.I.P Paul Walker

Saw Fast 7 last night..

I'm kind of undecided on it. I properly enjoyed how they went back to the beginning and the very first movie at the start, but then 70% of the movie was explosions and fights, it's one of the biggest franchises in the world so they're always going to be entertaining and of superb quality, but at some point you do get tired of them.

Although.. I'm willing to look past 70% of the movie for that solution how they decided to end the movie... It was absolutely excellent, without trying to spoil anything for those who haven't seen it still. I give 15 points out of 10 for the way they decided to say goodbye to Paul.

47 Ronin, some weird mess of a film with Keanu Reaves as a samurai of sorts. Very slow paced and just generally quite boring. 5/10

Interstellar, didn't get to see it in the cinema so picked it up on blu ray this week. Really enjoyable film if not something that you're going to have many repeat viewings of. Nice concept much like Inception was. 8/10

Chef, feel good film written, directed and staring John Fraveau (no idea if that's how it's spelt). Big shot chef who following a less than complimentary review of his food at the restaurant he works at ends up buying a food van and rediscovering his love of food and building his relationship with his 10 year old son. 7/10

I saw Lonesome Dove for the first time yesterday, 6 hours straight!   Now I see what the hulla-ballo was about.  Excellent treatment of the 1870s West, with none of the typical cliches.

Excellent series, would also recommend Into the West and Centennial, though the latter has dated a bit now since it was first aired.

Force Majeure - a thought provoking dark drama/comedy about the perception of human instinct in the midst of disaster - cue disconcerting frowns and refusal to speak to me after watching with a date, ha! 10/10!!

I thought it was ok, but nothing special. Slightly disappointed after all the hype, but it was alright,
