June 7, 201511 yr I see Pardew is potentially looking to bring Cabaye back to England. Worth a shot for us? Would be a good pivot player to allow Fabregas to play further forward. Good passer, good set piece taker, experience in the Premier League. Ticks a lot of boxes for me.

June 13, 201511 yr According to The Independent the midfield player that Chelsea will sign this summer is Alex Song who has also been linked to West Ham. #CFCIs Mourinho nuts? First Falcao now Song..... It's like we're downgrading our team. I'm not saying they're bad players, but they're certainly not the players who would improve us. Edited June 13, 201511 yr by CFCBlue12
June 13, 201511 yr I'm glad it's all just rumours. But there has been little to get excited about so far in my opinion.
June 13, 201511 yr Well I though after winning the league and signing that bumper yokohama deal, we would get linked with players like Pogba, Bale, Koke etc. But here we're hovering with players like Falcao, Song, Austin etc.
June 13, 201511 yr Getting worried by the current links. Not much to get excited about. Hopefully it's just a smoke screen.

June 14, 201511 yr Does song count as home grown still? If so makes some sense I guess. Question is does that mean the end for Mikel? Do we need matic, song and Mikel?
June 14, 201511 yr We should just buy whoever we want. The homegrown rule is a load of bs anyway, wouldn't be surprised to see it out the window like with what's happening in regard to FFP. They need consistency not just chop and change rules in order to suit whoever they need.
June 14, 201511 yr nobody available though. koke isn't leaving madrid, bale isn't leaving real, pogba is going to cost a bomb and we already have loftus-cheek who jose is putting faith into it seems, so all the top players are going nowhere this summer, so we have to go for the best we can get. i still think we'll bring in someone like walcott, it's a just a feeling. June 14, 201511 yr Song isn't better than Mikel, would be a pointless signing. The signing would make sense in that we would be getting a player of similar ilk whilst boosting the 'home grown' squad numbers at very little cost. This move would also allow us to look for further afield for a more competent number two keeper instead of being stuck with the likes of Robert Green if Cech is to leave.

I don't think we are even that close to hg quota. We had 3 foreign goalkeepers registered last year.
June 14, 201511 yr What would be the point of signing someone like Song, when we could just give a bit of faith to someone like RLC instead. Signing a "squad player" just to mnake up the numbers only restricts even further the opportunities for these kids.
June 14, 201511 yr Song is one of the least disciplined defensive midfielders I've ever seen. Why would we sign someone as average as him.
June 14, 201511 yr He's not a pure defensive midfielder. His best attributes are his passing and dribbling. If we were to sign him, he would play alongside Matic with Fabregas pushed forward. If we are planning to give RLC a real shot of making it here, it would make sense to sign someone like Song instead of a Koke or a Pogba.

If it's passing and dribbling we are looking for then why not go for Imbula instead ? Imbula with 3174 min played | Song with 2245 min played: Song: succsessful take ons : 39 (68.42%) Imbula: Succsessful take ons: 110 (74.32%) Song: Total passes: 1203 | Pass completion: 76% | Avg Pass length: 18.18m Imbula: Total passes 1959 | Pass completion: 90% | Avg Pass length: 19.24m
June 14, 201511 yr If Mikel is leaving, the Song rumour doesn't look so good. Like Footballoholic says, he isn't really a true defensive midfielder to replace Mikel.
June 14, 201511 yr Mikel is off to Al Ain it seems, having agreed personal terms: http://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation.com/chelsea-fc-transfer-rumours-news/2015/6/14/8777853/john-obi-mikel-al-ain
June 14, 201511 yr Alex Song is completely underrated. Was one of Arsenal's key players before earning a move to Barcelona where, unsurprisingly, they couldn't find a proper place for him in the first team before impressing again at West Ham. Homegrown, powerful and with good feet he's far superior to Mikel and would be a very good value signing.
