. Your memory is skewed horrifically. Cech played for rennes, who finished near to the bottom of the french league. He was signed as an understudy to cudicini. He got into the team because Cudicini got injured and it was from there that he managed to prove himself

Cech was not signed as an understudy, he was rated as one of the best young goalkeepers in Europe and was already a full international. He came in as competition for Carlo and I recall we all thought they would be rotated but Jose decided that Cech was his no 1 early doors, before Carlos elbow injury which cleared up before the season started anyway.

    That's the way I remember it too bjd, José made the decision to have cech as first choice before the season started.

    And when Benfica signed Witsel he was highly rated and was starting for a good Belgium team same with Defour and Porto.Mangala was a good signing but Omerou might be just as good yet.

    Rennes finished 9th when we signed him, The year before they finished near the bottom so i don't think it's my memory mate.

    I am more and more convinced that we have a forwarded lined up for the Summer. The fact we are not looking for one in Jan, Etoò likely off to the US and Ba likely to be sold, makes me think we have plans already afoot. 

    Last time we panic bought a striker in Jan it was Demba Ba... world class player... Time before that it was Torres... worked out really well. Can't see us doing it again. We'll wait until the summer.

    Eh? Ba didn't play in the Europa League for us. He wasn't eligible as he had already played for Newcastle.

    How would it leave us short? Torres and Etoo are hardly being run into the ground and Ba is still barely playing

     

    From what Ive seen, selling Ba wouldnt change much

    And what do we do if one gets injured? We all moaned about only having Torres and Sturridge, selling Ba without getting another replacement would be putting us back again. Also Sometimes Jose likes to play two strikers so if one was injured then that would be impossible.

    ^Schurrie can play up top in an emergency.

    P.S hearing we have put a £25m price tag on De Bruyne but Wolfsburg are willing to pay £17m.

    Surely we should take the £17m as it more than doubles our outlay, personally would sell at £10m + a buy back clause.
