I always thought Heavy Rain would make a good movie.

Don't think I've ever enjoyed any live-action films from a video game. IMO the best film adaptations are the animated ones like Summer Wars.

I think games like Beyond: Two Souls, Heavy Rain and the Arkham series have the potential though.

Yeah Duncan Jones, the guy who directed Moon is doing it. 

 

Not really seen any details about it though, not sure there will be much interest in it. 

 

I didn't know that. I wouldn't normally have any interest in watching a film based on a video game but I really enjoyed Moon and Source Code so I'll keep an eye out for this.

 

From what little I know about the World of Warcraft universe it seems like it could provide enough raw material for quite an interesting movie.

The thing is with games like Heavy Rain and The Last of Us (both of which I loved) is that they are heavily influenced by movies/TV themselves. So by adapting them into movies you'll be getting movies based on games influenced by movies. A bit like the Max Payne movie, which was a pile of derivative w**k.

Loved the Mass EFfect series, one of my favourites of all time. Will be interesting to see what this new game is about, since the story from the first 3 is basically finished

I think people are overly harsh on films based on video games.

The resident evil series has grossed huge money and is still successful today.

Doom granted wasn't great but I'm a huge fan of the game so actually quite enjoyed the film.

The tomb raider movie also doubled its budget in money pulled in I believe.

I was gutted they pulled the halo movie as I think that could be really special.

I'm confident the Assassins Creed film will be good as well.

The positive to these things for film companies I suppose as they already have a solid fan base to then build from, obviously that increases the chances of fans being disappointed unless they get it bang on mind you!

There was a Prince of Persia one as well. Never played the game, but the film was ok

Well then, I'm sure you'll be thrilled to know that a The Last of Us movie is in the early stages of production. 

 

As is an Uncharted movie. 

 

Seeing as both games achieve better cinematic moments than most movies do I don't hold my breath for either film. 

 

In the same way movie tie in games as a rule tend to be a bit sh*t, same is true of the reverse where movies of video games are generally a massive pile of w**k too. 

 

Not sure why the long history of failure of making adaptations there is an insistence on continually trying. 

Just goes to show how desperate Hollywood are nowadays. When was the last time they produced anything new and unique? It's all just film adaptations of books and games and comics, and endless animated films.

New in the sense that it was an original screenplay rather than an adaptation though. 

The new COD seems to have received good reviews (some of them dubious, *cough* IGN *cough*) but it just looks crap to be honest. Same old futuristic shooter.

You would be better off playing Titanfall than wasting time with Black Ops III but because it's COD it will generate a lot of sales regardless of how sh*t it is.

If you liked Summer Wars, I strongly recommend checking out The Girl Who Lept Through Time which is an amazing film. Wolf Children is also good.Both are by the same director

There's films of Rachet & Clank and Sly Raccoon being made which I don't have much hope for.

 

There's also an Angry Birds movie which surprisingly... Doesn't look terrible.

Fair enough, I was under the impression that Summer Wars was based on an online/tamagotchi-style game.

 

And yeah, I had a good time watching Mamoru Hosoda's film, always had something special in them. Have you watched The Boy and the Beast by the way?

 

Back to the topic, has anyone watched the Dragon Age movie? I almost forgot about it, it's not bad IMO.

I hate animation movies based off video games. Just don't see the point. 

Just saw an hour long demo for Just Cause 3. It looks incredible. Definitely a buy on Dec1. 

 

So good. 

 

 

Also Black Ops 3. Utter crap. Very disappointed. 

Yeah Just Cause looks good. Tom Clancey also comes out on 1st Dec. Some great games coming out.

Rise of the Tomb Raider getting near perfect scores across the board. Shame it's been pretty much ignored with Fallout 4 coming out the same day and Battlefront soon after.

The reboot game that came out recently was pretty decent (although I didn't finish it because I bought my PS4 whilst halfway through). 

 

They've obviously built on that and I'm honestly not surprised to see it scoring well, although the scores are a little higher than I would have expected. 

 

It's exclusive on Xbox for the first 12 months (a really strange deal, don't like this timed exclusive thing) and limiting their audience especially on the same day as Fallout 4 getting released you just wonder why they've made life so hard for themselves.
