I just wander what people want week in week out from supporting a football club and more importantly this club.

Sure we all want to win the league year in year out and we want the champions league, but is that why you support this club? If it where there would only be 5 clubs in the league full stop. However the AVB thread would lead me to believe that’s what most people are after… which is strange.

For the record I would also love to win the league year in year out. But there was a time I would never have expected to see us win it once, let alone 3 times.

What I get out of supporting Chelsea is week in week out live drama attached to my life but drama that when all is said and done is relatively harmless. Some real horrible things can happen in with world, and sadly just lately I have had my fair share but with Chelsea, what ever happens there going to be playing next week, we can loose 2-0 to Everton but we get to go through it all gain in a weeks time (or days on CL weeks)

Don’t get me wrong, during the match and for a considerable while after, I mentally kick every ball and I sit there a very loud and abusive bag of nerves. But there is so much more, there is the endless debate with every seasoned manager on this forum (including my self) there are the highs that are so much higher when your dealing with times like we are in now. This used to be the Gavin peacock goals against untied, only to have all hope smashed in embarrassing fashion in a cup final that you thought was destiny. If we where down the bottom end of the table or in another league the priorities would be different but the drama and effect would remain the same.

Only a handful of clubs are ever going to win the premiership now, sad to say. Fortunately for the moment we are actually still one of these clubs, sure not this season or maybe even next but for the foreseeable future we will always start the season with a chance. The trophies are the bonus at the end of the season. We didn’t win the champions league in 2006 and that sucked but we still have that game against Barcelona. For me it’s the journey I have memory’s from every season I have followed this club, there not all winning ones but there memory’s just the same.

PS – Carlo out… oh that was last season J

What a refreshing read - a sane well-balanced view of the present situation.

What do I want from supporting Chelsea?.

Only one thing iv'e ever wanted really.......that they try, always,no matter what,to do their very best,no matter how bleak things may appear.

Anything else is either a bonus or a pain in the arse!.

CFC for life.

No longer attending live matches ( I stopped in 96) , one of the bonuses of being more successful and attracting support from around the globe is that streams for our games are far more available than if we were a mid table team. So for me continue to be challenging with the other top teams for silverware. If we win any big bonus.

From supporting Chelsea and not the team itself?

Emotions, entertainment, an enjoyable experience. Basically the same as from a good novel, great characters and a gripping story. So highs and lows are expected and while a happy ending is welcome it is not necessarily required.

First, the chance to see Chelsea team play. I started supporting Chelsea in 1970, left England a few years later and went through a very, very long drought of not being able to see "my" team play.

So any time I can see a match, I'm instantly happier than I was before.

After that, that they play hard and have a chance at achieving team goals, whatever those may be. If 6th place represents success, so be it. I keep saying that high expectations are the enemy of happiness. We'd be miserable if we had Norwich City's points total. Their fans are over the moon. It's all a matter of expectations.

What would make me unhappy is lack of effort. And also, such a poor record of success that I could no longer find the matches on television or the internet.

Passion, Guts, Pride.

No one here realistically expects us to win all the time, but if we at least go out swinging in every game we can have no complaints.

I think people are most frustrated with our recent apathetic nature and distinct lack of ideas, fight and creativity.

I honestly wouldn't mind if we didn't win the league for the next few years, as long as we had decent, exciting and potentially winnable cup runs and a bit of steel and fight in every game.

When players are getting paid as much as they are (our club pays one of the highest in the league) and to see them roll over so easily hurts all of us. I am sure it hurts the owner the most.

As Alan said effort.

I've seen us beat United 5-0 one week then lose to Derby the next.

Supporting Chelsea is like a rollercoaster but worth the ride.

United and Arsenal fans don't have this, they will never experience the highs or lows of football. Lows are just as important as highs.

What I want is entertainment, tears for the highs and the lows, footy is (apologies for sexism) a soap opera for blokes. I was in tears in the upstairs room at the Slug & Lettuce in 2005 when SFL scored a brace at Bolton and blubbed like a baby in my flat over here when JT missed the pen in Moscow.

Its good to come on here and vent because after 36 years of going to watch in person I feel part of something around Chelsea FC and its fortunes.

Whether you agree with AVB, his tactics, the results , what needs fixing , whether Torres is pants etc. etc, you cant deny its all been very very entertaining.

Well said that man!

It has been totally entertaining up until the Everton match, which was totally depressing because the team just quit on the field, which is totally unacceptable.

Good shout mate.

Passion, Guts, Pride.

Can't argue with that, mate! What I want is for us not to get relegated as well, like someone already said, 6 points off Spuds and knock them out of whatever cup they manage to bluff their way through, and, my personal bugbear, 6 points off Newcastle. (You never were a big club, canny lad!)

No one here realistically expects us to win all the time,

You wouldn't think that reading the match threads every time we aren't 4 up after 20 minutes.

As Alan said effort.

Yea they just experience the lows :laugh2: .

In all seriousness though, the main thing is that they try, and if they're not performing run their socks off until that final whistle. Showing the same loyalty and determenation that most on this thread would if we got to pull on the jersey! ::ChELSeAFaN::

I don't really want anything from supporting Chelsea. I just get what I'm given. After all, I never chose Chelsea, my dad gave them to me and I live with it. Largely it has been a fantastic experience but it has also resulted in many spoiled weekends.

Funnily enough, for a large portion of my life supporting Chelsea I was more interested in how many fans we took away and how much noise we made. Results were secondary!! A quality 10 men went to mow where we all sat/crouched down on the away terrace at Old Trafford before 10 was what made my weekend!

So I guess I want us to have the best away fans in the country.

interesting question .

To continue to feel the pre match buzz getting off the tube at Fulham Broadway and drinking in the noise , smell and crowd.

Enjoy a couple of pre game pints with mates and have a good laugh and banter

To hear liquidator played before every game

To disagree with the team selection when announced and always ask why isn't "insert name here" on the bench /even on the bench .

Take my seat surrounded by mates

Have a pint at halftime and scratch my head thinking I would be sacked if I put in a shift like that

Enjoy the football.

As said above players who want to play for the club and us , are hungry and driven , a team who are not bogged down by tactics and over trained but can relax and play with flair and class.

A player who gets me on the edge of my seat when he gets the ball or is on the pitch like Guillt , Zola , Robben used to.

Pint on the way home for a post match debrief for 10 mins and then start having a good giggle about the real world

42 points to avoid relegation

Anything else is a bonus

A good proper cup run FA first and foremost but will take the league cup run

I couldn't give a monkey's about the "Champions League" couldn't care less how far we do or don't go in it to be honest . Yes I would like us to win it but not a must see game for me .

There to always to be a Chelsea Football Club for me , my children and in time my grand-children.

I don't expect us to win all the time, nor be entertaining all the time. But what I do expect is for the players out there to show as much passion and desire to win as I would if I were given the change. There are millions of fans who give pretty much anything to pull on that shirt, and to watch the half-hearted performances that some of our players put it.. that is what makes me disappointed and angry.

Simple really, for the players and manager to care about the club as much as we supporters do and give everything to win games. If we get beaten by the better team then so be it, but I never wnt to see us beaten because the other team wanted it more. That is unforgivable.

A pint before kick off in our exclusive location, just because it pisses off fans of other clubs who have to go to crapholes to watch their teams!

Some decent football, that gets me on my feet!

A good singsong with all my mates!

A gripe about such and such playing!

A few pints after, letting everyone know that we were either brilliant, or that I could do better!

A feeling of happiness when I crash out in bed, knowing I've had a good day (win, lose or draw)

Heart! Without it there is no point in even lacing up the boots and taking the pitch. Win, lose, or draw, we all want to see a performance of effort and to have that effort spill all over the pitch! Without HEART, that'll never happen! When times are good or when times are bad, I want to see heart week in and week out...
