Zeta
Had some promising appearances when he first arrived, but injury and a change of managers have seen him barely feature for about.. must be 5-6 months now since he had any run of games? What with us signing more midfielders and being linked with others, and RDM seemingly not rating him, do you see him staying or will be be on his way soon? ace
I think he is, although he might have been better served if he had been able to go to the USA with us instead of the Olympics. We've really only played 3-4 competitive matches, and even experienced internationals like Meireles and Essien have barely seen the field. I'd imagine once we start adding the League Cup and CL fixtures in midweek, we'll see more of guys like him. At least I hope so, as I think he's got a lot of talent and could be a regular in the future.
The Moos
He didn't really impress last season, but I think he's got potential. Not sure if he'll get that many games though. Mikel seems to be a player who can and will play most games. Romeu will probably get his chance in the FA Cup and the Carling Cup, unless we face strong opposition, and of course if Mikel gets injured, but that doesn't happen very often. In a way I think it might be better if we send him out on loan so he'll get more games.
That Boy Brandinho
He didn't really impress last season, but I think he's got potential. Are we talking about the same Oriol Romeu? Prior to his injury, he was brilliant.
romansoldier1981
I thought that the games he played he wasn't that bad. Sure he lacks experience but i seem to remember him being a lot faster than Mikel in starting attacks, his passing being direct and precise and overall a decent prospect. Mikel is a decent player too and he has experience on his side, also in that position i dont think he could ever say he was fatigued and might need less rest than most other players on the pitch so i dont realistically see Romeu getting many games. Bad thing is that if he did go back to Barca i guarantee he would turn in master performances, they just seem to get the best out of their youth players

icecoolguy22
Only 3 games into the season, Im sure he will play a handful of matches when after the international break. I reckon we didnt want promote him too early due to the buy-back clause.

timetowaste
I hope he can get some cup games and fill in if Mikel gets an injury. He impressed me a lot last season, people only seem to remember the few games he played badly in. Edited August 28, 2012 by timetowaste
Tommy26
i'd like to think so, his passing is a class above mikels. his tall and win challenges in the air, and gets stuck in too. he has the potential to be better than mikel but he would be best served bulking up some more, there was a point last season when he got pushed of the ball too easy in big games such as the man united 3-3 draw. sgblues
Romeu, isn't good enough, I do not think Barca wants him.. he never made any appearances while at Barca. When he played for Chelsea, he never covered the back 4. He has a very poor passing range, not a single attempt on goal. The last time he played was against Liverpool, we all saw how that turned out. Barca just signed Song, they have no thoughts about getting romeu. Even during the olympics he hardly even started for spain. I think his best bet is to play with the reserves as well as being a training material at cobham for the 1st team. This is just my opinion, and not facts

This is just my opinion, and not facts You're right, those aren't facts, because he did make two competitive appearances whilst at Barca. One start in the Super Cup and one substitute appearance in La Liga. I don't think you can read anything into the role he played during the Olympics. Midfield was far and away the deepest part of Spain's squad. In addition, our recent signing Azpilicueta didn't play much of a role but I doubt any sensible person would hold that against him. You're entitled to your opinions, but statements like "he has a very poor passing range" are bemusing, to say the least.
The Moos
Are we talking about the same Oriol Romeu? Prior to his injury, he was brilliant. I disagree. His first game was very impressive (if I remember correctly he was one of the best on the pitch) and his 2nd game wasn't bad, but then it went downhill. A few games was very bad. J.J
Romeu looked absolutely brilliant when he played for us under AVB His aggressive (but well-timed) tackling and eagerness to spring attacks with some quick passes were what really stood out, his late-season form wasn't as good, but he's done enough for us to be all very excited about his development Wouldn't have too much of a read into his lack of appearances so far, besides it being a pretty settled back 6, Mikel has been in good form in important fixtures; not really screaming out for a 21 year old defensive midfielder to be thrown on Edited August 29, 2012 by J.J

Zola
He will of course get a few appearances. We are keeping him out of Barca's thoughts ;) In time he will play, but he will be second choice to Mikel, who I feel has been pretty good this season so far. big blue
I did. His confidence on the ball, movement, passing and tackling all stood out. He looked mature beyond his years. Had a few stinkers as well though but did show enough promise to warrant more appearances. Still think mikel is far away the better player. But Romeu has natural defensive instincts that could see him become the better player in 2/3 seasons.
CunningStunt
I'd like to see him play more. Due to our recent signings the defensive midfield position is now our weakest area (as long as Cech doesn't get injured). I personally don't feel that Mikel will ever be reliable enough to be the holding midfielder for a side that likes to attack. He showed last season that he can do a good job when the whole team is defending and he doesn't have to leave our half, but now that we're more attacking and the game is more spread out I think his slow passing and complacency will be highlighted more and more. I was impressed by what I saw last season from Romeu and think he may suit this system far more than the AVB one. He's a good short-medium range passer, good tackler and likes to control the area in front of the defence. Him and Lampard together could be an epic combination IMO. shedpensioner
I love the fact that lots of you are only focusing on the negatives, yes he had a couple of bad games in a team that was struggling! I however will focus on the positives, he had 4-6 games where he looked absolute quality, his debut in the league cup against Fulham was brilliant! He's still young and needs to develop, lets play him in the 'easier' games and give him plenty of first team squad experience!
Snedger
I remember being very impressed when he cam on as a sub up at Sunderland last season. He looked real class but, the key thing was that at that very early point in AVB's reign we were really moving the ball around very quickly and had lots of movement off the ball. As things went tits up it was clear that he was less able to cope under pressure (most of which Chelsea were responsible for rather than our opponents) but he is very young and I think he still has a good chance of getting involved. It will just take time and patience.
Uno
For me i think Robbie has his favourites and those who arent dont have much of a hope. example is Studge, he is a brilliant player but just cant get a look in. He will leave next summer.
sgblues
One thing you guys fail to see , is that the team plays with 2 DMs and not one so cunningstunt, you point is out the door. If romeu cannot get one of the DM spots , he isn't good enough. RDM plays with 2 DMs.. We all know Mikel is currently the best player we have at that position and Lamps is doing a great job. they've been superb so far this season. Go and re-watch Arsenal v Chelsea and Liverpool v Chelsea... of last season...Romeu was a joke in those games.. Also the team is so much better and with Mikel in that team , Chelsea won the FA cup and the Champions league. He was great vs Newcastle and I do not think Chelsea will have a proper balance if Mikel is out.... We have a gem in our midfield Edited August 29, 2012 by sgblues
