Voted for Mikel as he was the only midfielder to turn up last night and was basically playing on his own at times.

But tried to get forward too often and then left the defense exposed, he once again failed to do his job as a holding midfielder.

The starting XI were all sh*t, with different variations of sh*tness, though Luiz takes the prize.

Went for Oscar, he looked quite lively when he came on.

There was one point, when he came deep to collect the ball, that he wriggled free of his opponent and instigated an attack.

Wit, craft and incision in the deep-lying position, just for a minute.

Put that alongside a strong defensive midfielder and you might get somewhere.

The biggest problem last night was our midfield two, both of them.

They are not required to join the attack, hence Lampard is almost rendered redundant, but they are required to protect the defence, which has never been Mikel's forte.

They neither have a lot of energy, a lot of mobility, they are neither clever enough on the ball or good enough on it.

I'm not worried about our back four, nor our three behind the striker.

I'm worried about the two in midfield and the one up front.

We spent all that money buying tricky little wingers.

We should play a 4060 formation.

Gotta give this to Cahil for being totally honest in his assessment of the teams performance...a nice breath of fresh air for a change instead of putting a spin on it as most of teh players would have done...well done Gary I hope the others follow your example....although I hope that there aren't to many of those this year!

Mikel for me. Strange that Lampard was the weak link in midfield (again!), yet Mikel still gets blamed by certain people.

Agree 100%, Mikel was the only contender as far as im concerned. Maybe Cahill, just.

But tried to get forward too often and then left the defense exposed, he once again failed to do his job as a holding midfielder.

And yet when he does just sit in and "do his job" he gets slagged off for not going forward. Its pathetic the amount of abuse he gets on here and he can do no right.

i dont see why mikel isnt allowed any forward runs, whereas its basically expected of lampard. yesterday, whenever mikel went forward he had every right to do so, because lampard shouldve stayed back. thats why we have 2 holding midfielders, so that once space opens up for one of them the other one is there to drop back

i was actually pleased at how mikel did yesterday, but im increasingly frustrated with lampard since i dont think hes tactically disciplined

They both were poor but when Mikel has been playing the holding midfield role for 7 seasons you would think he would have learned by now , clearly he hasn't and i don't think he ever will.

That's the kind of Mikel i want to see , a DM playing like a DM. It was working for him when RDM first arrived, why change it ?

I truly feel that Luiz was out at the casinos the night before the match, since nothing else makes sense for his horrible performance. I hope that I am wrong about that.

Just a point for the Mikel bashers!

He's not playing defensive midfield, he's playing central midfield in a double pivot, so if he does go forwards the other midfielder is supposed to drop in and protect the back four!!

If we can all understand this, it will help you to see how sh*t Lampard was on Friday night!

We do understand how bad Lampard was , but Mikel was almost as bad in my opinion.
