Apart from the obvious, which is that Ramires isn't a striker, you don't hear  Benitez making excuses for Ramires or any other player to the extent that he makes excuses for Torres, telling us how well Torres is playing when he's clearly sh*te.

I don't care if the Interim Waiter makes excuses for him or not. I'm just sick and f**king tired of everything bad Torres does magnified to the nth degree.

Deluded really, anyone who says that there was a worse player on the pitch tonight needs to have a word with themselves.

The team was poor as a whole, so I can't really pick a player. All I'm saying is that people are way too obsessed about Torres.

that guy with the gun to your head, cant you ask him to put it away?

By his woeful standards not his worst game. Yes, he missed sitters but at least he got on the end of chances, at least he was looking to score and at least he stayed in and around the box. In other words, it was a very unusual performance from Torres, but then again, we must remember, we were playing sub-par opposition, though we did our best to make them look like world-beaters.

Of course by any normal standards he was absolutely atrocious, the finishing, the touch, etc etc. Shocking really.

absolutely not. he is easily the biggest problem at our club at the moment. has been for 2 years now.

No gun, I'm just sick of everyone going on about Torres like he's the only reason we struggled today. Our last ball was pathetic in general.

Just realised this is the Groundhog thread, which is one of the most boring, useless and repetitive threads I've seen in the history of this forum. Don't know why I missed that. Should stay away from this depressing mess, really.

The biggest problems are way higher up in the hierarchy. The club are a joke at the moment and don't get me started on Rafa.

Yeah, I thought I should at least have the courtesy to comment back a few times before I leave when I realised my error. Won't miss this one bit. Watching Chelsea is depressing enough at the moment.

He wasn't good, but he wasn't anywhere near as bad as people are saying. Rambo missed easier chances, yet no one is having a go at him.

well rambo isnt a striker

exactly. Torres was awful today  but so too were the majority of players. don't understand how everyone on this forum will overlook poor performances from the rest of the team just to focus on fernando

true its their fault we have torres as our only option which is the biggest cause for our failures this season. no club in the world would win any top cup or league wiv him as the main man fact.

People exaggerate Torres performances because its the same sh*t every game. Fans can tolerate poor performances and forgive players for making howlers (like Iva v Swansea) as long as they try. Torres having a poor game is a normal game and we are sick of it, especially when he looks like he's just not trying.

Chelsea manager Rafa Benitez on striker Fernando Torres's record of only one goal in his last 14 appearances:

"He didn't play badly tonight, you can analyse a striker for the number of goals he scores. He did a great job for the team tonight.
"It's not easy against a team playing deep, but he was winning the ball in the air, bringing options for those around him.
"I thought he was playing well. I disagree he was playing badly. But of course we want him to take the chances that come his way.
"If he continues working like today and playing like he did today, he will score goals. I'm convinced about that."

I say it how i see it now, and he Tried tonight, missed a hat full of chances, messed up loads of play, but he actually ran around showed his pace, and got into areas to score, don't tell me with out a touch of fortune which was definitely not with him, a hat-trick any other time, others played sh*te in the first half as well.

FSW should keep his fat gob shut because when he opens it, it spews diarrhea

That's all he is, FFS. A bag man for the ownership to trot out in front of the cameras. He may as well be remote operated to discuss their talking points and sign off on their squad.

u miss the point. chelsea have failed this season no one can argue wiv that, out of cl,lc, 16 points off league and RDM sacked. the main cause of this is our lack of strikers. torres is clearly not good enough to be the main striker at any club that wants to challange for trophies. its not about working hard its about having the "quality" to play for a top side. he has not shown this quality at all and still wants to be the main man. i m sorry but working hard is not good enough at cfc if we want to be taken seriously. if torres was the only option for barca, real, man u,city, psg they too would find it impossible to succseed. nothing personal against torres but we must have better.

No doubt, Maks, but the problem is he has become a symbol for everything going wrong at the moment. The blind ignorance to reality (of his ability gone down the swanee), the keeping up pretenses (vis a vis the manager situation) that he is a top striker, the inability to stop meddling with the team...actually maybe that last one is related to him.

Long story short, we are doomed to play out this review after every match. Was he sh*t? Yes, he was sh*t. But today, he was so sh*t he made even past sh*t look like gold. And so it runs on.

You hit it on the head with this comment. Things are so incredibly f**ked top to bottom its hard to surmount the ability to give a damn about another flop from el floppo.

What's most mystifying about the situation is Roman's involvement. Does insisting Torres play every week do the player or the club any favors? At this point, its only exposing him to more egregious failure. And its clear we have no exit strategy for this player as we seemed to with Shevchenko. Its just "play him every week, even when Ba is eligible."

a question to those who still feel torres is not the main problem. what club in the premire league would torres be loan striker for week in week out based soely on perfomances since 2010/11?

Wigan, QPR and Norwich. Probably West Ham as well if Fat Sam is desperate enough

But if he was missing sitters; or being a passenger I doubt he would be their first choice for very long - or if he was they would probably get relegated.

I dont agree that the " main  " cause is a  lack of strikers. i believe the main cause is a mixture of the following (mostly in equal measure)

1)complacency against "smaller" teams

2) pedestrian build up play

3) playing square pegs in round holes - ala Lampard and Ramires as our main CM pairing

4) lack of midfield depth - In hindsight we should not have let essien / mary ellis / KDB go

5) defensive mistakes - generally poor defending

6) Torres being generally poor  - alongwith a lack of options

7) managerial upheaval

8) trying to re-invent the way we play, our style of play and integrating several new players in a very short space of time. At times this has made us look like the team has no identity, and we look short of creative ideas when trying to break teams down.

9) All of the above contributing to players in poor form. Cahill/Ivan/Luiz/ Rambo/Hazard/ Oscar / Moses /torres have all gone through periods of unreliabilty and poor form. Only Mata and lamps (since his return form injury) have shown any sort of consistancy.

10) To many games / too small squad.

I don't see him trying as a positive. I kinda of expect all our players to try every game.

To be fair, for the first time in a very, very long time he got himself forward into central positions to receive the ball and thereby offered himself as a target for his team mates to pass to. The fact that he then missed a number of very good chances is a seperate issue.

As has been said so many times before, he desperately needs to leave the club.  Both for his sake and to allow CFC to move forward. The fans at the Bridge who showed incredible patience and supported him for so long have turned on him, and there is no way back from that.

I try and stay away from this thread these days but after last night curiosity killed the cat.

I have never seen a player where for the entire course of a game not a single thing comes off for him. It seems to happen so often you would think that eventually just by chance a ball would hit him and rebound of his arse and go in but it simply so rarely comes off for him.

Three decent chances and he failed to convert any of them. I don't think they were sitters as such, but decent chances. Most strikers, even 'out of form' strikers, may miss one, may miss two.... but to fail to concvert any of them is, needless to say, simply not good enough and very rare to see with such regularity at this level.

His 'one on one' where he showed a lovely bit of movement and turn would have been a majestic goal if he had chipped the keeper and finished it off but as he was bearing down on goal and the realisation that he would have to beat the keeper one on one dawned there was an air of inevitability when the shot was smothered and it came to nothing.

I am not sure if by the end of the game I was focussing too much on Torres out of almost a fascination but it seemed to almost get to slap stick levels- getting in the way of our players, blocking shots and almost seemingly tackling one of our players when dribbling at pace appraching the box.

I sincerely hope that Roman has seen enough now.

If you believe what you read then Roman has been determined to get the best out of his £50M man, and  a lot has been done to try and ensure this, which is understandable to some degree. But enough is enough, not even the FSW himself really believes that Torres will ever cut the mustard for us and anyone that does needs to seek help.
