I suppose that's why he plays him then, that makes perfect sense.

Are you trying to be thick or is this a troll attempt?

I suppose you have not heard the numerous interviews our manager has had about the striker situation...

But I guess that's too much to ask for

Reasoning with someone who thinks top paid players should be demoted to train with youth players for the remainder of their contracts is not something that I relish.

You clearly don't give a crap how our club is viewed or how we treat our players. You need a reality check.

The Malouda situation was a joke and it showed our club up in a bad light and punished a title winning player while treating them like dirt.

If that's what you want then fine but I pray we act with dignity and views like yours are laughed upon.

I've said he would have no place in the squad if we sign a big money striker and bring back Lukaku. There is no sense in Fernando Torres as a third choice striker.

Reasoning - tell me what role you think Torres is going to play next season?

Third choice - Ba role on 175k p/w - that is surely the better idea than you know getting him to take a pay cut so he doesn't have to be Malouded.

If he is still here next season it's likely because he values his wage more than his playing time - if that's indeed the case I don't see why we would give him any chances ahead of Bamford or Feruz

Score the winner at Anfield in front of all those horrible bin dippers and celebrate by kissing the badge over and over again please.

Dear god imagine if he scored the winner at Anfield that won us the title, I can't imagine there would ever be a better moment in my entire life.

You lot do not ask for much, do you? lol

He was involved in some superb play and goals. He didn't score and that's again disappointing but his overall play was very good. I don't know why people can't give him credit when it's due.

You are wrong dkw. Giving him credit is not enough for many of the Torres fanboys on here. See the Arsenal match thread for proof.

Gave him credit for playing well as a wide man / attacking midfielder, which is exactly what he was yesterday but committed a cardinal sin by pointing out that is not what he is supposed to be and got royally slaughtered by the usual fanboys.

And the thing that really grips my sh*t, not one of them countered the points raised. Not one of them had arguments to make back about him not playing a centre forwards game, or him never looking like scoring again. They simply will not accept any negative comments. Ever.

The bloke has four Premier League goals. Jesus wept. Four!

You have such a negative view on everything torres.

Torres wasnt were he was supposed to be?

The 3rd and 4th goal resulted from him making typical strikers runs. He held the ball up okay, and was unlucky not to better with the only chance he had, which he created himself.

All in all he did okay considering he came into a match that was virtually a dead rubber.

You are letting the years of bitterness about how poor torres is, and how we should of got aguero, seriously cloud your analysis, and you post the same tired abuse about him in every thread.

I don't really understand how there can be a debate about him anymore.

physically he's basically the same as ever (or at least, the changes are relatively small and shouldn't have changed him as a player very much), mentally something has gone and won't ever come back regularly. certainly not at chelsea.

if you accept the player he is rather than the one he was or the one we thought we'd get it sort of simplifies things. or it does for me anyway.

he's essentially a better version of emile heskey (post leicester): good in the air, hard working, runs the channels, unselfish but entirely lacking as a penalty box player. he doesn't offer a discernible goal threat. if you can digest that then it becomes easy to see his value. he's a six or seven out of ten player and he's certainly not without his uses. is he good enough be a regular starter? no. but he still offers the squad something.

eto'o on the other hand is a perfect short term signing. a genuinely top class striking brain that still works the way it always did. I think jose has managed them both brilliantly and they've both contributed to our most consistent season since we won the title.

On a serious note, if he notches the winner against the bin dippers he will be a worthwhile buy for me. Especially if we win the league

Were he to do that to add to his CL, Europa League and FA cup winners medal would be hard pressed to call him a failure. He has not lived up to the 50million tag but then you could not argue with the medal count.

it's a valid point... until you look at the likes of Wes Brown and realise that the most average of footballers can rack up serious medals if they are at the right club!

i understand its slightly different though as torres has actually been 1st choice throughout (somehow) whereas brown was definitely a squad player at best

I would be hard pressed to disagree with your opening statement

As much as I also love for him to score against his old club, but I really can't see it happening. For one, he seems to have a mental block playing against them all the time and two, that bloke just can't shoot properly.

This is my absolute final word on this thread. The absolute last.

I ask this question and I'm sure it's been asked before but:

Would you rather have a 30/35 goal Torres and no trophies or a 10/15 goal Torres and win the league (or the European Cup like the other year)?

I asked this question to a family member who supports Liverpool and he actually said he'd rather have a 30 goal striker, even if it meant no trophies. SMH

It doesn't have to be a choice, we won the European cup because our name was on it.. some times fairytales do happen.. all the stars converged for us.

We have looked No were near league winners since 2011 and a lot of that is down to lack of a goal threat. If we had a striker this year league would be done

Besides, we won the European cup primarily due to Drogba's brillance, ok yes he won that corner that led to that goal.

He scored that goal in Camp Nou and settled the nerves for the last 2-3 minutes.

He did play his part on some of those victories but come on, 50 million pounds, we would have expected more.

If he scores the winner at binfield and crushes the scouse, guiding us forward towards a title, all previous frustrations will be well and truly forgiven.

I'm willing to escalate him to legendary status if that happens (but i'd rather a hatrick as don't want to suffer through a tight game)

Inter President on the prospect of signing Torres (and others) this summer:

"Maybe one of [Edin Dzeko, Fernando Torres and Alvaro Morata] will come, but only if they fit my three basic parameters: technical, economic and marketing."

Well Torres will be the most marketable of them all but lacks in the other two areas.

City would be mugs to sell Dzeko.

Even if he isn't the best player of the three Torres is the biggest name.

If Inter are looking to make some statement signings for next season then they might opt to try and sign him to go with Vidic who is joining on a free.

I can't see City letting Dzeko go, his goals to games ratio is too good and Jovetic is looking a bit of a naff signing right now.
