When we play our usual XI we have no real impact players from the bench, maybe if we used him -like Chippy says- for the last 20 mins every game he could be our impact player, I just got a feeling he is the kind of player who gets in the right position a couple of times a game, and ends up with a goal most times.

last night wasnt even a greedy performance from danny. there was only one nailed on time he should have passed, that being the ridiculous shot from the byline. 1 extra bit of greediness, from a striker? no complaints from me.

Come on mate I only saw the last 20 minutes and extra time and in that period there must of been at least 3 times he did his usual selfish shot when there are players around him in a better position. There were alot of positives I saw in that period aswell but no one can deny it was another selfish performacne!

There was one other one where he should've passed it but there was one where he was entitled to shoot n nearly scored. So I'd say there was probably 2 selfish shots n one where he was entitled.

I have every confidence that either Torres or Sturridge could be a consistent 15 to 20 goal striker for us for a few seasons.

However considering how wasteful they seem to be, I also have no doubt Falcao would hit 30 if presented with the same level of service.

Well said and as I said above after he scored he was outstanding

Can not agree with the statement "outstanding" but will agree he look livelier after his goal than before, that said, he is still not the player I want to see leading the attack, greedy, no awareness of players around him, no football brain, totally selfish, he seems to me as though he is playing for his self to see if he can get a mega bucks deal some where else.

I think this is how most of us feel....

So why does torres get the leway of games to get fitness up etc and Danny is chastersiesd after one scoring performance?

Because it clearly wasn't a fitness issue with danny last night. It was the same old problems from last year.People are just frustrated because the talent is there it just isn't being put to great effect!

I think you're understating how good he was once he scored, he played some superb passes, made some great standing tackles, set up Moses.

I know stats can be used to prove any point but i read that Torres has played 9 league games had 18 shots, 8 on target while Sturridge against United (just 1 game) 1 goal 8 shots and 5 on target.

You can make the same argument about Torres. The talent is there, but people are getting frustrated by the amount of times he loses the ball, falls over or gets into a scoring position and then just doesn't shoot.

Difference is, Torres has had 2 years of unwavering support from the crowd and mostly support on the internet/forums/etc... Even though it's taken him this long to start scoring a few, and even then he can still be woeful. Sturridge on the other hand only seems to get one game and he's cast aside by the fans, even though he scores more often than not when given a decent run out.

The double standards being shown in this situation are mind-boggling.

I think the main reason torres get's away with it is because you can clearly see he is playing for the team. With sturridge if he is having bad day people will get on his back because you can clearly see he is just after personal glory.

The support torres has had at the bridge has been brilliant but I can't say the same for the support he has on this board. People get on his back and write in this thread after one bad pass or one bad shot.

Torres gives us an out when we're under pressure, he will get the ball hold onto it and find a team mate.

Danny doesn't give us that, when he gets the ball 90% of the time he tries something flash loses the ball and puts us back under pressure!

If Danny could realise that scoring goals is part of his job but not his only job, he would be a fantastic player, until then he'll be a fringe player!

EDIT: For the recored Danny had a bad game on Wednesday but scored which papered over things

I also think that talking Falcao up as some kind of scoring messiah is dangerous as well, if our club history teaches us 1 thing it's that if a striker has scored elsewhere that doesn't mean he will here!

Fleck, Sutton, Sheva just to name a few!

The difference between Torres and Sturridge is Sturrige is fighting for his place so is shooting at every chance to try and get another start in the team.

There are certainly no guarantees sometimes it doesn't work out, Shevchenko I think just came to the EPL far too late in his career. His knees were starting to go and I don't think he coped well with the speed of the game, although still love him for that goal against Spuds in the FA cup alone. So we just don't know if Falcao is gonna make it here either but could be a risk worth taking.

Fleck and Sutton were coming into there prime!

Their are no gaurantees in football!

Yeah but neither were world class, in fact both were very limited. Signing Fleck now would be like signing Holt. Sutton was a poor mans Bent, which is saying something. At Norwich they used him as a defender as well as a striker, about sums the c**t up.

Not saying its not a risk worth taking, just worried that some are seeing him as some kind of messiah!
