Ugh La Liga is terrible. The linesmen miss so many clear offside calls, and the players react hysterically to the referee at any kind of physical challange. It really is a soft league, very soft league. Mourinho brought some steel to it but now it's squishy again

Awful to watch the majority of time for all thise reasons you mention. Barcelona the worst by far, ever foul no matter how small sees their player rolling around while the others pressure the ref.

How dare you, they are the purest, most beautiful footballing pioneers currently gracing our game and Mr Platini would be right to slap you with a fine for speaking out against them.

Mourinho: "Cech is almost 10 years at the top. Now he's beaten Bonetti's record & next year probably breaks the Premier League record."

Hmm..

Sounds like discussions with Courtois have already begun.

Dave Seaman on Talksport just now says he loves Petr Cech and is his fav goaly in the league.

Said Joe Hart is his favourite English goalie

That's a backhanded compliment if ever I heard one.

Not sure if it's been covered, but the issue for me is can we hang on to Courtois? If he has no prospect of playing for us then he is unlikely to renew his contract which will be in to it's fourth year in the summer.  Much as  I love Petr, I think it is important to look longer term and the only way we get to keep Courtois is if we bring him back.  He doesn't have to be guaranteed first choice.  He just needs to be given the chance to compete.  if he shows he is better then Petr has to step aside.  If Cech can hold him off then fair enough.  A bit of competition won't hurt either of them.  It's pretty much how it worked when Cech arrived and ousted Carlo.

Replacing a legend of a goalkeeper is really hard.  Look at the problems Utd had when Schmeichel retired or Arsenal when Seamen finished.  We have the opportunity to ensure a smooth succession and we shouldn't blow it.

He also said he didn't care how entertaining arsenal were when he played, it was all about winning trophies. Hmmm

More stuff about this in the papers today.

Gotta say, the idea of us selling Courtois makes me feel sick.

The kid is going to be the best keeper in the world for the next 10-15 years.

20 Mil for Courtois please.

Atletico Madrid's president Enrique Cerezo has admitted that they are keen on signing Chelsea loanee goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois on a permanent basis but believe the deal will be complicated by Chelsea's €25m valuation.

Chelsea signed the Belgium international in 2011 after paying £5m to Genk but has never made an appearance for the Blues, having been sent out on loan to Atletico.

The 21-year-old 'keeper is currently enjoying his third season at the Vicente Calderon Stadium where he has built a reputation as one of the finest shot stoppers in Europe - helping Atletico win the Copa del Rey against Real Madrid last season and the Europa League the previous campaign.

Manager Diego Simeone is desperately trying to keep him in the squad next season and president Cerezo suggested to Spanish radio station Cope that in order to convince Chelsea to part ways with the Belgian they will have to pay €25m.

"I believe that Chelsea have place €25m price tag on Courtois," Cerezo said. "He is worth a lot because he is the best in Europe but €25m is too much for a keeper."

"The deal does not depend just on us, Chelsea also have to accept to sell.

"He is a great goalkeeper. He is playing amazingly well but he belongs to Chelsea and €25m is a lot of money. Let's see what can we do," Cerezo added.

Atletico's precarious financial position does not allow them to pay the £20m that Chelsea demand for Courtois and reports in Spain last week claimed that La Liga side are considering offering some of their biggest stars in exchange to get the deal done.

Manager Jose Mourinho is willing to get him back to challenge Petr Cech for the number one shirt next season but the Belgium international does not want to be on the bench and his future remain up in the air.

Courtois conceded the least amount of goals in La Liga last year and this campaign he has been also instrumental in Atletico's successful start to the season.

How much did they sell De Gea to United for? €20m?

So their president admits he sees Courtois as the best in Europe but doesn't think another €5m is realistic?

He's having a giraffe.

Not sure I agree. Schmeichel was an absolute monster.

Stats and such favour Cech though so I can see why people would have him as the best.

Schmeichel also had a massive flaw in his game i thought. He was easy to chip. He would rush out a lot and i think if players were a bit smarter they would have exposed this weakness a lot more.

In the full article he also says that 25m is too much for a keeper but Courtois is possibly worth more than that as he is the best keeper in the world.

Don't want him to leave.

He can still go f**k himself.

In an ideal world we run with Cech for one more season whilst Thiabaut stays at Athletico and continues to improve. I don't think it's Cech's time yet.
