I've seen blame thrown at everyone except the man in goal. Surely he must take some criticism too.

 

I have have no idea whether or not Cech contributed massively in this regard or in what way Courtois does or doesnt contribute as its impossible for me to know. I can only comment on what I believe to be the problem from my position at the end of the couch. So I dont disagree or agree with that notion. I merely commented that I wasnt even a little bit surprised that you would managed to get a few jabs in at Courtois.

Just think its something Cech is better than him at. Hardly a jab. Don't see any complaints whenever Cech gets told he is worse at everything than Cortouis.

I haven't really been paying any attention to how good Courtois is at bossing his defenders around at set pieces. I can imagine it might be a bit intimidating for a young keeper to bark orders at someone like Terry or Ivanovic, does anyone have any insight on this?

You'd have to believe that the understanding between Cech Terry and Cahill is more developed than with Courtois

Their understanding will no doubt improve as time goes. The defenders have been suspect a number of occasions this season. Ivan in particular likes to attack more than defend and JT and Cahill have regressed a bit. I'm not panicking since it's early but I wonder when Jose will move Ivan to the center (taking away license to attack and keeping him focused on defense) and bring Dave to the right with Luis on the left. Surely it can't be too much longer before Jose makes these moves

I'd hardly think so. Ivan has been a beast going forward. He can also defend when need be. His current role is more attacking but that's Jose's call.

Even if that were true (which I don't think it is) why would you drop a young keeper when he could probably benefit from as much playing time as possible?

 

As it is Courtois is the number one and will remain the number one because he's a better goalkeeper than Cech.

Yep, I'm happy with Courtois being in goal on merit alone, not to mention he's 10 years younger.

Courtois is fantastic. The way he dominates the crosses and set pieces is just fantastic for a young keeper and it gives confidence to defenders. Love him as much as Hazard tbh.

Courtois was immense against United,  hard done by against a late RVP winner to deny his well deserved clean sheet.

There is no reason to bench him absolutely no.

Just out of curiosity, what does commanding the box mean?

I usually interpret commanding the box as being confident and comfortable coming out for high balls into the box. In that regard, I've always felt safe with Cech, but have been incredibly impressed with Courtois' ability; every time we face a ball into the box I feel like he's going to catch it.

 

My workmate reckons that Courtois' weakness is the corners of his goal - I don't think I've seen enough to come to that conclusion but worth watching out for.

on the fence with Courtois taking over, he is the future no doubt but as he been better than Cech who last season made the PFA team ?

Although i think Courtois is an excellent goalkeeper i still prefer Cech in goal, he just has the knack for keeping clean sheets.

Courtois is the easy choice for me. He's young and already one of the best in the world. He deserves all the chances we can give him because his potential is unbelievable. At the moment, Neuer is by far the best in the world but who says Courtois can't challenge him in a couple of years? 

Cech is a legend and one of the best keepers to every play football in England.  However he plays from this point onwards, nothing will change that.

 

That said, we are in the fortunate position to have the best young keeper in the world.  Courtois is unbelieveble already and his potential is huge.

 

We need to nurture him and we need to ensure his future is pledged with Chelsea, not Real Madrid etc. 

 

The current situation is obviously brilliant, in that we have two world class keepers.  Obviously, as much as I may want him to stay, Cech is probably going to look elsewhere and he deserves to play because he is a great keeper.  If we have to pick one it has to be Courtois, as sad as it is to say goodbye to a legend like Cech.
