I also felt sorry for jt when he missed that penalty in moscow. Im sure cahill feels worse about those mistakes than any of us do. Im not defending him, they are horrible errors, nd he shouldnt be the team, but deserves zero personal abuse (not directed at you). Hopefully he is taken out the firing line this weekend. They're called professionals for a reason.

I'm grateful for everything he's given the club but based on England's performance at international level we should have binned him years ago. Ditto, It is getting to a point when all the good things he has done for the club is being replaced by all the bad things he is doing now. We as a club need to be smart about replacing players as they are falling over the edge, not wait till they completely fall over. Cahill is pretty much there, Ivanovich has fallen off. At what point are we going to act on it? How much reality check do we need ?

Be sharp don't dither, 2 An experienced player as he is gets fouled you stay down not get up to win a race that is impossible and give the ref a chance to play on, he stays down ref calls foul. Beyond that he is slow as f**k and without JT barking instructions has no confidence

Why can't we use a bit of good judgement here and there???
September 27, 20169 yr Cahill played over 200 games for Chelsea, i don't recall him being this bad in all the previous as he was this season. It is easy to jump and i quote call him "the worst defender ever to play for Chelsea" as the one's that quoted this probably haven't been supporting Chelsea long enough. Does he need to be dropped? Yes he does, does he need to get slaughtered for his mistakes? No not really, he is a professional he had several good games, he had some were he was terrible. He was never bought to be the new JT, squad player at best. Same could be said about Ivanovi?, just the Serb had a period of at least two season were he should have been dropped hands down.

He's been making mistakes that have lead to goals ever since he arrived. Easy to forget when we score a few up the other end. But I haven't.
September 27, 20169 yr Form aside, one thing that perplexes me is that over the last 3 seasons an expensive left back has been purchased , not played much and discarded a season later, 3 separate top managers (use that liberally to refer to uncle Guus) inexplicably have 'contributed' to this situation..........or have they? We whether its - the match day paying punters, the TV subscribing punters, uncle Tom Cobbly & all are gobsmacked, how can this be?, how can once great players be so awful and why do they keep their place in 1st team week in week out??? Somebody above said it wouldn't happen at City and cited Joe Hart, City appears to be a well run corporate business, Chelsea appears to be run ultimately by 1 man only This is in no way a slight of RA, but imo for a 'hands on' owner to succeed in this new cash drenched premier league environment with sky high transfer fees and wages, that owner better have some 'nous'. Sometimes if there is no logical explanation then the illogical needs consideration. I for one wont be surprised if at least one of the two - Ivan or Cahill start next match. And as for Matic.......... Edited September 27, 20169 yr by General

Make no mistake about it - The ones who are for Cahill to be dropped also want Ivanovich to be dropped. It is just that with Ivanovich we have been singing this song for longer and are frankly tired.

Fair point, but at what point does the bad overweigh the good? Remember, the goal of Chelsea is to fight and win competitions and for that we need our best players our forward. When a time comes when our best players are not the best anymore and are infact causing more harm by being on the pitch, then what is the point in starting them ? Also as a defender, It is more important that he defends well than scoring goals.

I've never thought he was in our best two central defenders.
September 29, 20169 yr Who would replace him in the team right now with JT and zouma injured? The only option I could think of is put Ivan in the middle with azpi and Alonso on the outsides

October 1, 20169 yr I feel a bit sorry for the fella, sure he's having a bad patch but it's not like he's been the worst player on the pitch for a long time.. given his assets, it's not that difficult to see him bounce back.. I think he can still be fixed..
October 1, 20169 yr I think he looked better when we were better, players around him elevated him, that's not me saying he was 'carried' either, he is limited in what he can do compared to the likes of JT and Luiz. the team needs an overhaul and he'd be on my 'out' list for sure.
October 1, 20169 yr Antonio Conte keeps faith in 'great defender' Gary Cahill: 'He plays tomorrow'Press conference from yesterday, doesn't fill me with hope.

Terry and Zouma are injured and Ivanovic is playing as bad if not worse. If Terry had been fit I don't think Cahill would play today.

I think we will win today regardless.

Yeah what he should really have said was "well I have to play the useless lump dont I, Ive got no one else" that would have done wonders for Cahills confidence going into a game.
