October 1, 201312 yr Makes you wonder whether ANY striker is going to prosper in the current setup.Any one of them can get 20+ goals a season, just not with us. Maybe the whole concept of a striker is outdated in JM's eyes, but then why do we have so many? Nothing makes sense
October 1, 201312 yr why no option for recall on january? why?! It was reported that the loan fee is around 3 millions. With that kind of money, it will be silly for everton to let chelsea having an escape clause Edited October 1, 201312 yr by June
October 1, 201312 yr Not sure that the concept of a striker is thought outdated by Jose or anyone else really. I just think that the way in which teams set up against us (bus parking) and the way in which we 'attack' (for want of a better word) that it requires a very special and unique striker to score regularly for Chelsea. So I can't help but feel that if Lukaku came back today and played up front for us, he'd have much more difficulty scoring than he has had at WBA or Everton. Same applies to Sturridge. All our strikers seem to end up playing on the flanks these days. It's as if they just can't find any space to operate down the centre. As well as Torres played against Spurs, his best moments were out wide and the crosses he put in.
October 1, 201312 yr why no option for recall on january? why?! its not allowed by premier league rules when the loan is between two premier league clubs. not sure if thats a new rule or not, but that seems to be the reason. seeing as we cant have him back, we might as well enjoy watching him destroy every defence in the premier league other than ours, take points off our rivals and lick our lips at the prospect of having him next season when he will be even better than he is now after another years experience in the best league in the world!
October 1, 201312 yr I think the club will be very pleased for him if he continues banging in the goals and I think its great for his development and confidence and I had no problem with the club letting him go on loan to a club one step up from WBA. If we don't buy a world class striker in January then he will be back next season a far better player than he left due to his continued development, he will be leading the line and demolishing the best defences in the EPL...just like Didier...its all part of the 'grand design'
October 1, 201312 yr I can't believe he's still only 20 years old. Drogba was what? 26 when he joined us in 2004 and even then it took him a year to settle in. Compare that with what Lukaku is already doing in the PL and it's scary to think just how good this boy could become!
October 1, 201312 yr The only thing about this loan that disappoints me is the fact we don't have recall option in january. I have no problem with jose deciding he needs another year before he is ready to lead the line for us ( there is a big difference between leading the line for everton and leading the line for chelsea) but if our strikers are not firing by january and lukaku carries on the form he is showing at the minute then it is criminal not to have that option to bring him back. If it is against the rules then fair enough.
October 1, 201312 yr "A Player on long term loan may not be recalled except for a goalkeeper or where the Player is to be transferred permanently by the Club holding his registered contract. A Player otherthan a goalkeeper so recalled cannot be permitted to play for the Club holding hisregistration after such recall until the end of the Season." As quoted in the rulebook, there is no way we can recall Lukaku and play him before the end of the season... unless we sneak him on in a goalkeeper's top
October 1, 201312 yr Players like Lukaku are why I retired - Jamie Carragher Jamie Carragher was in awe of Chelsea's Romelu Lukaku's display for loan club Everton on Monday Night Football. Romelu Lukaku turned in a man-of-the-match display for Everton in their 3-2 win over Newcastle. Lukaku scored two goals and provided one assist, as well has having two strikes he converted in the first half disallowed. It was a dominant display from the on loan Belgian forward, with several Chelsea fans no doubt scratching their heads as to why Jose Mourinho cast him aside so easily. In the Sky studio, pundits Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville were glowing in their praise of the international striker, who has the technique and poise to add to his physical prowess. Carragher said: "I look at players like this, and that's probably why I retired! "You don't want to be coming up against players like that "You mention the goals, power and strength but his passing, the weight of the pass, he's got so much about him." He was backed up by co-pundit Gary Neville: "You wouldnt want to play against him. He is a massive handful." Lukaku's display certainly exposed Newcastle's defensive deficiencies, and has also served to put the rest of the Premier League on notice, as if they weren't aware of his qualities already.

I think this may be the Spanish influence, where intricate patterns were seen to be the way to crack defences, but then came the German renaissance. It was certainly a shock to see RM and Barca humiliated in CL, so it's back to the drawing board for everybody I would think. The big centre forward idea seems like a retro concept to me,
October 1, 201312 yr I personally dont like this idea of trying to copy the Barca way. I would love to see us go back to the 4-3-3 and just batter teams in to submission. There was nothing wrong with that. Changing to this silly 4-2-3-1 is just bollocks imo.

The big centre forward idea seems like a retro concept to me, a 'big centre forward' is retro, but the likes of Didier and Lukaku are so much more than just a 'big centre forward'. He is more than capable of playing in an intricate system. we're not talking about an Emile Heskey or Duncan Ferguson here
October 1, 201312 yr how big of a centre forward are we talking about here? cavani, lewandowski, ibrahimovic, benzema are all big enough to play as a CB EDIT: just checked their heights, and cavain, lewy and benzema are all exactly the same height Edited October 1, 201312 yr by Lane
October 2, 201312 yr I rarely agree with Carragher, but it's sad - we have one striker that is able to scare defenders into submission and we loan him out. Against Newcastle they made mistakes and you've got to ask yourself would the Newcastle defenders be as worried and nervy if they had been facing Jelavic.
October 2, 201312 yr it looks that everton fans are really happy with Lukaku. Unfortunately, many are so greedy and unrealistic, thinking that they can buy him from 18 to 25 millions from Chelsea at the end of the season. http://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/60031-Lukaku/page48

Unfortunately, many are so greedy and unrealistic, thinking that they can buy him from 18 to 25 millions from Chelsea at the end of the season. http://www.grandoldteam.com/forum/threads/60031-Lukaku/page48 We did sell Sturridge for 12 million, which is barely 3 million profit, next season Lukaku is going to have 2 years left on his contract - if we sign a big name striker do you believe Lukaku will actually play for us next season? I reckon 30 million
October 2, 201312 yr http://storify.com/hellhina2/les-lukaku-facts/ "Lukaku gets called into the Belgium army when they're short on tanks"

October 2, 201312 yr Lukaku is on loan to Everton for the season, get over it.Mata + 30 mill for Rooney would be the worst bit of business we have ever done, wont happen.
October 3, 201312 yr So we score four in Rumania, but not one from a striker. Strikers are just SO last season! :-)
October 3, 201312 yr No that was a kid doing those things. A man, who has figured out how the business works and may realize that his chances at Chelsea may be limited, may want to leave for regular first team chances. He keeps playing like this and there will plenty big clubs offering that. Chelsea needs to get their act together and commit to this guy when he comes back. And when I say commit, I mean first team regular, not one start every three games like this bull that is going on right now. But he knew his chances THIS season would have been limited, which is why he went out on loan, a successful loan spell at a team like Everton would hopefully be enough for Jose to make him our first choice striker, what I was replying to was somebody who said he'd ask to leave whatever the situation. If he's told his chances will be limited or if we try and loan him out again THEN I expect him to ask to move but if he's told he's going to have a big part to play for us then I fully expect him to stay, no matter who come calling. After my original anger at him being loaned out I have seen why we've done it and why Lukaku wanted to go. Until next season we should just deal with it and look forward to seeing him progress as a player over the season.
October 3, 201312 yr The strange thing is if he wasn't our player already I am sure we would be in for him in January and looking to pay somewhere around £25 million. We often buy a striker in the Jan window and he and Benteke would be top of our list.
