Oscar - Little Diamond

Featured Replies

It's unbelieveable how far people go to defend Oscar.
It's always the same thing, he works hard, he is still adapting from Brazil, he is still young...

When Lane shows a stat of his assists (which in my opinion is fairly important for a CAM) he get's told assist isn't what should be looked at

because key passes are more important. Then when the key passes stat comes up and it turns out to be below par, it just gets ignored.

I'm not saying Oscar doesn't have talent, because I believe he does. But let's just stop overrating him because of the occasional screamer and the fact that he makes a good tackle now and again.

How about the fact that we are currently top of the table with him being the preferred number 10?

That when introduced against Southampton away he turned the game on it's head and guided us to the valuable 3 points?

That against Spurs his introduction at half time meant we were able to press higher and more effectively up the pitch and pressure Spurs into making the mistakes that lead to 3 points.

You say let's not overrate him, how about we don't underrate the fact that he has been a prominent part of the team that is guiding us to our best league finish in 3 years.

At the age of 22, as well.

Play more youth the masses cry when if Oscar doesn't get much credit then no one will ever make it here.

How about the fact that we are currently top of the table with Torres and Eto'o being our preferred number 9's?

Eto'o got us the winner against Liverpool, was vital against Tottenham and got a hattrick against United. Torres got us the winner against Man City and still everybody agrees that both of them aren't good enough.

I think we are top of the table mainly because of our rock solid defense, the good form of Ramires earlier in the season and now Matic, the brilliant Eden Hazard and of course the expertise of Jose Mourinho. I'm not saying Oscar didn't contribute, especially early in the season he did but so did Torres, Eto'o and all the others. That alone doesn't make him a worldclass player. Don't get me wrong, I think Oscar is a very good player, but I feel he is overrated on this forum, didn't manage to live up to his potential yet, and does lack creativity for a number 10.

Listen I'm not going to argue the toss out of just how talented Chelsea and Brazil's first choice number 10 is with you.

If you or other forum member think he is overrated that's fine, I respect that.

But what I see is a lad of 22 who has been given the task of being central to our team by one of the greatest managers of all time.

After underachieving in the league for the last two seasons the team this year now finds themselves sitting top of the pile.

Oscar has been a huge part of that and you'll forgive me for looking for the positives in his game and his place in the team rather than finding fault with what is clearly a very talented and likable player.

I personally have no concerns about Oscar in the future. I still think he will be here and I think he will be a brilliant player for us. I have concerns at the moment about his current form but that's about it.

Really hope he finds his form again this season because we desperately need him right now.

Sublime post. I will add to it that Oscar effectively gives Hazard and Willian more freedom then they normally would with Mata on the team.

But they lack the link-up play that Mata would provide them with.

Mata clearly wasnt the right kind of player for Mourinhos tactics.

Even before Mourinho came back, whenever we would play a stronger team, our team would look so disjointed with Mata. So i have no qualms with selling him.

As far as Oscar goes, ive had doubts about him even last season. I said his goals would dry up, and they did, and when hes not scoring goals, hes offering nothing in attack. People give Rami sh*t about his passing, but not only is he a better passer than Oscar, hes also sending trough balls and trying to make things happen.

I think hes a great lad, and has a great attitude, but i will be very surprised if he ends up justifying the faith put into him.

Forgive me problems posting quotes - but this us spot on,

Tons of potential but I think over rated.

Think he's played way too many games over the last 2 seasons.

Give the lad rest and play him deeper - he could be our midfield general for the next 10 years

The problem with playing him deeper is he loses the ball way to much. Hes not a good enough passer to play CM

Also, im not sure if his defensive ability would translate well to the CM position.

People see him win balls high up the pitch and automatically assume hed do well at CM, but what they dont seem to notice is how many times he rushes into the tackle and just gets taken out of play. He never tries to contain.

Im not disregarding the possibility of Mourinho instructing him to go all in when trying to win the ball, because hed still have Rami and Matic behind him in case he fails. But im still on the fence whether hed be able to handle playing as a CM.

Good read, I do wonder how much of Hazard's vast improvement this season has been due to Oscar and Willian displacing Mata.

I dont know but wasn't everyone expecting Hazard to better this season? i know i did. Surely every season we should expect him to improve.

But they lack the link-up play that Mata would provide them with.

How can you say this when Hazard has been having his best season ever and Willian never got it going with Mata? It baffles me

Oscar has been awful for some time.the reason we are top of the table is because of the defense, typical mourhino?.

Hazard is the only player that gets me excited at the other end of the pitch.the midfield is functional with matic With no sign of Mikel.however, having watched ath Madrid and Bayern Munich tonight, there is nothing to fear in the cl IMO.

Oscar's been one of our most important players this season. He is currently a bit off form but I think we'll have him back when the going gets tough; soon.

We just need to accept Oscar is not Mata and those key pass-stats are spot on. Oscar is much more allround CM than Mata-type AM. Matic and Oscar are more alike than Oscar-Mata.

Brazil's style brings out the best in Oscar and he is a key player for them. When they attack they attack in numbers. Oscar is usually there in the mix, when they lose the ball Oscar is usually there to get it back. He has support for the central role from everybody and he is usually the player they pass the ball to.

Well, the understanding between Mata and Hazard was amazing, they found each other time and time again. And it was clear for all to see.

Mata never really had a real chance with Willian. Because he just isn't what Mourinho wants a CAM to be.

I'm not going to go any further into this because in my opinion it's pretty much self-explanatory.

You are disregarding that Mourinho is not playing a pure #10 in that position. He is using Oscar as a deep #8 to release Hazard and Willian. Oscaris doing his job indeed. Its to quickly release Willian Eto'o and Hazard into counter. Then Oscar comes in from deep to smash in any rebounds and to support the 3 upfront along with Lampard/Ramires.

the thing with a lot of young players is that they are always an unknown which means that a lot of opposition will be naive. when the season drags on they will be more familiar and the young players will be sussed out. this is the time when young players will experience the nuances of EPL football and adapt. i have no doubts that oscar is one of them.
