July 5, 201313 yr Trying to get the old grey matter running here, but who was the last regular first team Dutchman we had at Chelsea? De Goey? I think that would be Robben Edited July 5, 201313 yr by zolawannabe25
July 5, 201313 yr I think that would be Robben Yep, was in another thread and Robben resurfaced...came back to answer my own question. Also, I think Zenden then De Goey, then Ruud?
July 5, 201313 yr Think Ruud was before De Goey, Mario Melchiot and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink were recent.
July 5, 201313 yr I haven't seen much of him but having a cap for Netherlands shows he is a talent. Its nice to have a young look to the squad with KDB/Hazard/Van Ginkel/Lukaku/Schurrle. Hopefully Mourinho moulds a team that competes at the top for years to come.

To be fair getting a cap for team Netherlands means you are talented but a lot of young dutch players are introduced to the first team very early on in friendlies and some qualification matches. They are sometimes playing almost U21 team. I'd say he is long way away from making the squad for Brazil but lets hope. If he does well under Jose you never know. Although as stated before I've never seen him play so what do I know. I'm very happy this is the way we do business these days.

You don't need to be a great talent to get a cap for your country though do you ? more average players than great players get caps. I think it's just going to be a wait and see thing with Van Ginkel because i know pretty much bugger all about him
July 6, 201313 yr would have preferred paulinho but excited none the less. Not sure weve improved our first 11 yet, but hopefully we'l get de rossi.
July 6, 201313 yr Di Rossi would be immense, even if just on a 2/3 year deal whilst the youngsters learn from him ala Ballack. But back to the Ginkelmeister - as others have said he has been bought to play in the first team IMO, not a loanee etc. Looking forward to seeing this in a few years time: ---------McEachran------- -----KDB---------vG------- Or that variation. And yes I'm aware I mentioned the M word in a future CFC line-up, I do expect lots of 'he won't be given a chance' 'he 100% will not play for us' which unfortunately seems the norm in these parts but for a moment just stop being negative and admire the possibility.
July 6, 201313 yr Twitter is saying Romeu would be open to a loan move to Valencia. If he goes we'll definetly see more of this MvG lad we just acquired. Which immediately leads me to think of Essien and Ivanovic. If Jose likes to play Essien as a backup for Azpi where does it leave Ivanovic? If Ivan is preferred over Cahill where does it leave him? Offtopic but the mind tends to wander.
July 6, 201313 yr I reckon Jose will use Essien as a utility option for RB and if we have an injury crisis in the midfield. I'd have got shot of him personally but Jose loves him.
July 6, 201313 yr Essien is in our past, you don't loan out someone in their mid to late 20s after being a regular for the previous 2 or so years. I hope we just wanted to get him fit to sell on.

July 6, 201313 yr Happy with the signings so far. Someone at the club was clearly pushing hard for schurrle so glad that's wrapped up. As for rvg I think it was a no brainier. Vitesse clearly give us first option on their players. And it just happened they had the best u21 player in Holland. Still need another option up top for me.
July 6, 201313 yr With the arrival of Van Ginkel and Schurrle and the return or De Bruyne, Essien, and Lukaku the squad is looking a lot bigger now. There is so much competition now in that midfield, i prefer that. I don't know about anyone else but i can't see how Ramires is going to be getting much game time next season. If we are going to go back to 4-3-3 then i just don't see how they fit. Lampard, Oscar, De Bruyne, Van Ginkel will all be competing for 2 spots, so where does that leave Ramires ? I'm also not sure about Mikel either. Mikel is slightly in the better position for now because there isn't as much competition for his place. Essien has returned but can he be trusted to play DM on a regular basis anymore ? before his knee injury Essien was a beast, now not so much. Romeu isn't ready to be 1st team regular yet and will need time to get back to normal after his knee injury, so he's not going to be taking over from Mikel anytime soon. I hope we will bring in a new DM. I would love it to be De Rossi, if we got De Rossi in then i think our midfield would be complete, and one of the strongest in the world, maybe even the strongest. We would still need a striker though and maybe another CB. Essien is damaged goods and over the hill. I doubt Mourinho will guarantee him first team football on a regular basis. Apparently Mikel has not lived up to Jose's expectations and allegedly is on his way to Galatasaray. De Rossi or Xabi Alonso would be ideal to fill the DM role. We are also in dire need of a world class striker and centre back.

I doubt Mourinho would use Essien at RB unless Azpilicueta and Ivanovic are both out injured which is most unlikely. Perhaps in midfield he might get an opportunity to fill in but I don't believe Mourinho will guarantee him first team football on a regular basis. Edited July 6, 201313 yr by Randy36
July 6, 201313 yr Signed, sealed, delivered... I's dotted, T's crossed... {insert applicable cliché} Kinda has a Gareth Bale look to him
July 6, 201313 yr 'A lot of nice pitcshes...' Oh sh*t, we've got Ruud Gullit back. Oi! No mocking a Dutch accent!
July 6, 201313 yr This guy will be terrible. I'd rather have Oscar in the team, at least he has skill.
July 6, 201313 yr Oi! No mocking a Dutch accent!OK, no problem. How about we make up over a crepe and a bong?
