De Bruyne.

Fine debut and will only get better

Lamps for me, amazing free kick and great to see him scoring in yet another season for us!

can't believe there was even a suggestion that he was not getting a new contract last year

Oscar and then Rambo, KdB probably would have got a solid shout if he had played longer. JT & Cahill had a good partnership and Branna was fairly solid.

Ramires for me. I still think he is hilariously underrated.

After that I would choose Oscar also for his tenacity and aggression which he has definately improved since last season.

It is funny how different people saw the game. Torres was very good with his link-up play today, won the pen, won the free kick, put in a few killer passes. I don't think anybody was outstanding but Torres was MOTM for me.

Come at me bro.

Ramires for me, by a mile.

As good as the attacking players were, Ramires didn't let Hull anywhere near our defence for over an hour. Won tonnes of free kicks, made loads of tackles and as usual was all over the pitch.

Oscar was excellent and De Bruyne was also impressive.

@Timetowaste - Come on. If you are seriously suggesting that you think Torres was our best player today, I suggest you go for an eye examination.

You're reasoning is that he won a penalty and a freekick, with some good passes? The penalty was just madness from the goalie, nothing special from Torres and the freekick win, was a dive. 1 Excellent pass to Lampard but not a lot else, gave the ball away a lot in the 1st half hour.

Torres was ok, but we had at least 6 players that were better. The need to big up his performances baffles me, and if anything, is slightly insulting to the players that were evidently much better.

But hey, each to their own and all that...

Torres was ok, he wasn't bad. But Oscar and Ramires were world class. I've always thought that if Oscar was played in that nr. 10 position and was given the oppurtunity to be the center of play he'd show what he's truly capable of, I'm happy Jose played him there and I'm glad Oscar was able to show everyone what he can do. De Bruyne was good too, he looked hungry and wanting to prove himself, he always shot when he had the chance and though they weren't the most accurate of shots they sure as hell were powerful, and it was only he's debut. Great debut that is. And Lampard oh my....

Overall I'm probably most comfortable going into a season as I've ever been. We truly played like champions today. Great passing, great link-up play, everybody knew what to do and everyone enjoyed themselves. Total domination. It was only Hull yes, There will be much harder games. But after today, I can go to sleep happy because I know happy days lie ahead.

Oscar was superb and looked great in the role he played today, De Bruyne had a very assured debut in the premier league and I love the way he wants the ball and has the confidence to try things, if either had played the full game it could have gone to them for me and for doing it over the full 90, Ramires deserves the vote for generally being everywhere

Oscar, then Ramires and KdB.

Thought JT and Cahill were solid as well. Lamps had a good game with a great free kick, Hazard wasn't as effective as we've seen him though.

Torres linked play up well at times but also gave the ball away and, as usual, looked afraid to shoot.

I'm not sure that I'd put him at the MOTM, but he was pretty important today.  Another day he'll play brilliantly, win everything and not achieve an assist/goal - today be did got us one goal, and should have got another from the penalty.    I definitely don't think he dived for the freekick - he was jumping around the player who obstructed him, and bounced back to his feet as soon as he got past him - definitely no theatrics to try and win a free kick.  As for the penalty - he made a good run and created the penalty - not sure why you chalk off any merit to him winning it.  Does Lampard get no credit for the freekick, as it was on the keepers side of the wall, and should have been saved, had the goalie not taken a step to his right?

I don't think someone needs an eye examination because they believes a player involved in a goal and a penalty win was their man of the match.

Away from the Torres=Jesus or Judas debate - we had plenty of stand out performances today.  Oscar was great, Rambo was solid and all of the creative midfielders did well linking up together in the first competitive match together.  Even the defense looked pretty good, when asked any questions - can only remember Brana getting outjumped once, and other than that it looks pretty organised back there.

Overall Oscar squeaks it for me - but could have been any of 5/6 different players.

Ummm yeah... I've just read your post in the player ratings thread.

Can't really take you seriously I'm afraid.

Other than Torres, obviously who we disagree on his importance today do you disagree with?  Other than your level of rating the players, we were pretty similar...  I struggle to see how you can't take someone seriously when there aren't polar opposites in opinion.  The only players who I'm markedly different to some of the others is Cech, who for me didn't put a foot wrong all game - who although wasn't greatly tested commanded the area very well from crosses, organised the defense well from set pieces and covered the other chances they had without an issues.

Outside of that I think people were a little more up on KBV than I was - his passing was excellent, but his shooting was a bit poor (not a knock on the kid in his first performance - but definitely an area that wasn't his strongest point today) - who was better than average, but could have really made more of an impact getting shots on goal and working the goalie (which was an area the whole team were petty guilty of today - I think they had only 6 shots on target, including the penalty miss, from almost 20 total attempts).

Other than that, I don't really see where your issue would be?
