July 14, 201412 yr I'd have him in the team ahead of Willian. He can look a bit clumsy at times but he always pops up with a chance either for himself or created for a team mate. I've got big hopes for him this season. This. He does have an infuriating habit of losing possession particularly when attempting to beat defenders, but equally he has it in his locker to create that one chance which can often be the difference. Fine tune his game and he could be absolute class. I think we'll see a lot more of him next season and I too have high hopes for him - seems like a good pro as well which helps, definitely keen to learn and has bought into the gaffer's methods.
July 14, 201412 yr Plays in a totally different system and role for Germany. Management at Chelsea won't accommodate him unfortunately. Agree, Hazard generally operates in his best areas. I wasn't that impressed with Schurrle during the season, for me he often took the wrong decision, like shooting from a ridiculous angle. I also find him weak in possession, however no matter how he plays he has a opportunity to score as he finds himself in the right space. Excited for him and love the way he is up for a fight. He's only 23 as well, just looks older
July 14, 201412 yr I never warmed to him as much last season as I did to Willian (and have done to Hazard and Oscar before), however his performances in the World Cup have been impressive. We have such a great collection of young AMs in our squad and all of them have different strengths and weaknesses. With Costa and (hopefully) Lukaku as CF, and Fabregas pulling the string in midfield, our attack is looking very promising. I can't wait for the new season to start.
July 15, 201412 yr A World Champion what else can you say. A brilliant assist for the winning goal and impressed throughout with game changing performances when introduced. Showed flashes of brilliance last season and has showed Lukaku how to respect Chelsea, keep his mouth firmly shut and do his talking on the biggest stage in world football. Will force himself into our side next season and the Special One will call him special before every game.
July 15, 201412 yr He had a good season for us, didnt play alot in the first half as Jose drilled defensive workrates into him. Always pops up with a goal when needed. Great lad.
July 15, 201412 yr Top players can play badly and still make that one game changing moment, which he has done for us and for Germany. Top players also score big goals (City, PSG). Should start on the right of the attacking 3 next season.

I personally think Schurrle is better as an impact player tbh, obviously some games he should start but mostly I think he's better coming off the bench
July 15, 201412 yr I personally think Schurrle is better as an impact player tbh, obviously some games he should start but mostly I think he's better coming off the bench I think his best performances for us have come from the games he starts. His first goal for us was in the win against City and he played really well in that game, the game against Stoke which we lost he got himself 2 goals, it was an error bringing him off that day, and then there is the hat trick against Fulham, he was brilliant that day. He was great when we beat Arsenal 6-0, he played a key role in a few of the goals. These performances all come from games he started in. He's had a year in England now so he may give us performances like this on a consistent basis. It's him or Willian, and there is no doubt that Schurrle is the better player of the 2. Good freaking points actually Schurrle is better in terms if attack but I feel Willian is better in terms of defence and energy, both are coming off first seasons so hopefully they both are even better this season

He doesn't seem like an attacking midfielder when he plays for us.

Personally I think he showed some moments of brilliance going forward last season and it was his first season so maybe he'll push on next season
July 17, 201412 yr Definitely need a new chant for him next year now We drunkenly came up with this and started singing while watching the finale -- it could stand to be improved: (tune: Ants Go Marching) He won the cup with Germany -- Schurrle, Schurrle! He won the cup with Germany -- Schurrle, Schurrle! He won the cup with Germany And now he'll win one for Chelsea And he'll keep on scoring down at the Bridge

August 12, 201411 yr if we could just some how combine him and Willian With Willian, i feel safe he is rarely going to loose the ball and win most 50-50's infact, 50-50 balls are more 70-30 when willian is in for them. Great skill set control and pace, very underrated last season, the amount of times he would break up play and then instantly set us away. However there is no denying he has some white line feaver going on and when it comes to in and around the penalty area his numbers could and should be better. Andre on the other hand is probably one of the best players we have running of the ball, always picking up great positions and doesn't panik inforunt of goal, but does have a tendancy to loose posetion when picking the ball up a bit deaper, from a pure ability on the ball point of view I don't think he's as good as the others but offers a much bigger goal threat. Second season for all of them though
August 12, 201411 yr if we could just some how combine him and Willian Should have gone for Alexis Sanchez then.
August 13, 201411 yr Should have gone for Alexis Sanchez then. I don't understand how in the space of a few months, Alexis Sanchez has gone from Barcelona misfit who couldn't displace the mighty Pedro from their first team to Garrincha reincarnate. Edited August 13, 201411 yr by Jonty

August 13, 201411 yr I don't understand how in the space of a few months, Alexis Sanchez has gone from Barcelona misfit who couldn't displace the mighty Pedro from their first team to Garrincha reincarnate. Only mentioned him as a player that reasonably combines the skill sets of Willian and Schurrle. As for being a Barca misfit, the stats (19 goals in 27 league starts) hardly back that up, but in that case would you call Fabregas the same?

As for being a Barca misfit, the stats (19 goals in 27 league starts) hardly back that up, but in that case would you call Fabregas the same? Well no, firstly because Fabregas was competing with Xavi and Iniesta for a position who are both undroppable, as opposed to Pedro and Tello. Secondly because Fabregas already has a massive reputation as a World Cup/European Championship winner, and was already known as one of the worlds finest playmakers in the world from his time at Arsenal. And I think my comment came across as rude, it was more of a reference to how Arsenal fans have been spouting on the last few weeks and not so much directed at you.
