Filipe Luis to Chelsea... and Back Again.

This guy is the anti-signing of what the board has been about in recent years

Yep but Mourinho is here now. To be fair with Lampard , Cole and Eto'o all leaving we do lack a bit of experience and some older players. I would still prefer someone younger like Shaw but its not like Luis is a bad leftback.

I wasn't calling out any of these players as being inherently a better signing. But people knocking Shaws experience then saying Luis is a better are simply wrong. If experience and consistency is what you are after Luis is not even close to top notch.

Jack, is he £20 million better than Azpi,Cole or Bertrand? He will be at Chelsea for 3-4 seasons only, is not proven at the highest level and if he does struggle to adapt doesn't have a long career in front of him or a resale value to make a regain on.

Whilst his signing wouldn't be a bad one, I can't get myself excited in anyway for him and would not be happy if the club spent anything over £12-15 million.

Not proven at the highest level? The guy has won nearly everything in the last few seasons, Copla Del Rey, Europa league, Super Cup, La Liga winner and CL runners up and has been part of arguably the best defence in Europe. Bale struggled against him in the CL final aswell. Is he £20M better than those three you mentioned?. I dont know maybe not but he's better than all of them going forward i know that and when i have seen him play he looks just as good defensively as Cole.

I agree with you on the last bit, the price and his age puts me off but Luis is a very good leftback.

29 seems VERY short term looking for me.

This is the one signing i'm not so enamered with....

If you mean 3-4 years then yes it is short term. But:

A: he is better than Shaw

B: chances are that it will remain that way for the next 3-4 years

C: I'll take the improved chance of title wins in that time over potential future gains

D: in that time there'll be a new crop of LBs who may be better and cheaper

E: the club locking itself into a big deal for a non-world class teenage player is ridiculous.

Yes, in two season he has won alot. So did Jose Bosingwa. In fact didnt Bosingwa mark Messi out of the game?

He's a solid player, I wouldnt be distraught if we bought him but I wouldnt be shocked if we overpayed for him and moved him on in 2 years time... Ala Bosingwa

Agree with this. I really like him as a player. With the Luiz money (a rotational player) we'll have picked up the world class creative cm we needed and la liga's left back of the season! Good business in my book. Just wish we had a better forward than Costa to go after.

^ No way is he La Liga's LB; what yardstick are people using to measure this? I am confused because if you are going by the least goals conceded, you would argue then that Ivanovic is the PL's best RB & Azpi best LB. IMO the best LB in La Liga is a toss up between Marcelo & Alba, & in the world Alaba.

If you want great attacking fullbacks then Marcelo and Alba are perfect, if you want them to defend? Yeah, not going to happen

Flipe Luis is both good at defending and attacking

Metro saying we've given up on Shaw and have turned our attention to Russian left back Georgi Schennikov. He's in Brazil with the Russia squad so if there's any truth it would be good to see him play

Schennikov isn't Russia's first choice LB. I reckon if we are after him, this doesn't rule out Filipe Luis, Schennikov is 23 so will complement Luis nicely.

I meant he was in the la liga team of the year. Also I agree marcelo might just have the edge going forward. But I think Luis's is probably better all round and more suited for a mourinho team.

You have no idea what you are talking about.
