Lewis Baker - Should he be given a real chance next season?

Featured Replies

Out of all the youngsters we have, i really hope Lewis gets a chance to prove himself on a more regular basis than he has this season. He, as well as others, are our future in terms of English talent and I don't want us to mess this one up. I would hate to see him not given a chance and for some other rival team to snap him up.

He'd be better off going out on loan, but if Van Ginkel goes out on loan and we don't keep Romeu, Baker could perhaps get some time at the end of games.

That said Chalobah is also ahead of him, possibly Ake too who has mainly been played in midfield on his rare first team appearances.

Baker is the one that I think could make it, I think he's better further forward than the likes of Van Ginkle and Chaloba so that could help. I'd like to see him involved with the 1st team squad this season rather than out on loan, but he's very young so wouldn't expect him to play much if at all.

I dont have enough fingers to counts the young players who deserve a chance in our squad and do not get it.

If lukaku after 2 great seasons dosnt get it, why should baker would?

I'm all for giving youth a chance but it's not Baker's time. There's at least 3 other youngsters ahead of him at the moment.

He's the only one with the quality to break though IMO

I think Ake is our best prospect to be honest.

Not sure what the hype is about Ake, when ever I see him he looks positionly poor and switches of, genuine football ability but not switched on. Baker is actually a lot better on the ball then Ake and doesn't seem to drift out of games, ever. Winners mentality wich is every bit as important as any natural ability

Baker is great on the ball when he wants. That seems to be his problem, he is great when he actually wants to be which from my time spent watching him is roughly half the time hes on the pitch. I doubt he has the right attitude to make it under a manager so demanding as Jose.

As for Ake, I really dont see what the fuss is about. Far from good enough for us imo.

I hate to put a 'downer' on this topic, but do you think that us Chelsea fans get far too excited about our youth players? I would love to see a homegrown lad come through the ranks... But there going to have to be something 'truly special' - is Lewis Baker going to become one if the best midfielders in the world?? ....

Because that's what he will need to be to survive at the bridge.

Any chelsea fan that gets excited about youth is just not paying attention. Chelsea does not promote youth. They are not given a chance at all. Yes maybe a bad cup game here and there but no real chance. Not sure why any real youth talent would come here with hope of playing in the first team. Players like Piazon and Baker could easily be given a good chancd. Not to mention the whole Lukaku situation.

he should do. Not sure what else he has to show to prove himself. If we do loan him i hope it's to a PL team and not a championship one/Vitesse.

After Piazon I doubt we'll ever send another player there.

Some people are obsessed with giving unproven talent game time over world class international players, just because they've come through the Chelsea youth academy.

edit: actually, can't be bothered. not a very accurate comment though.

What makes Piazon so special? Traore and Atsu had a good time AFAIK. I can only see the partnership between the clubs getting stronger. They need a striker next season and we have a Bamford.

Pray tell me how did these world class international players become such world class players? it would not be because, someone decided to give them a chance to progress through the first team and learn of of their betters & gain experienced by playing among those world class international players.
