January 3, 201511 yr In a societal context personally think he should made an example of - he's done his sentence and from what I've read in the press is genuinely remorseful for what he did, so I think he deserves a 'second chance', just not as a professional footballer. I wouldn't have any sympathy if FIFA/UEFA banned him for life. I'm not quite sure of that. From what I've read he still protests his innocence.

I wouldn't have any sympathy if FIFA/UEFA banned him for life. Why exactly? It would be extremely hard for him to keep on continuing to be a professional footballer but looks like that is exactly what he wants to do. If a plummer raped someone he would probably do with a move to a new city and start over. But as he is a public person it is complicated. I think he needs to be given a shot in football.
January 3, 201511 yr Nah. We're getting better. It might be only 4-0... I was in a pub with a bunch of Spurs fans who were jokingly admitting at 85 minutes with the score 5-2 that they'd be happy with a point. Edited January 3, 201511 yr by AlexTommo
January 3, 201511 yr Personally I think ched evans should be able to continue with his career. He has served his sentence so let him get on with his life.

Despite my comments I don't really know to be honest - I do think your point is a valid one - I guess there needs to be some compromise that works to his advantage. It's a complicated situation, yes he was convicted but unless you were a fly on the wall in that hotel room in Rhyl nobody can really know what happened that night - if he's innocent it's a different story altogether. Perhaps the move to Malta would be good for him, let the dust settle and maybe return in a couple of years. Edited January 3, 201511 yr by the special one
January 3, 201511 yr Gerrard couldn't win the league on his own, there's got to be a greater collective contribution and too many Liverpool players past and present failed to step up, and I'd include Torres in that list for a large part of his time with us. That is a great point. The league is a mammoth effort and you simply can't afford any slip-ups over the course of 38 games.
January 3, 201511 yr Personally I think ched evans should be able to continue with his career. He has served his sentence so let him get on with his life. He can do what he wants, but no football club should hire him.
January 3, 201511 yr He can do what he wants, but no football club should hire him. No club probably will hire him, as it would damage their reputation. But that's not the same as saying they shouldn't do. The guy has mantained his innocence all throughout and looking at the details of the case it certainly seems if could be innocent. Nevertheless he was found guilty and served his time, but that time is over now, he shouldn't have to continue to be punished for the rest of his life.
January 3, 201511 yr Steven Gerrard is to release a book about his career at Liverpool Football Club. As of yet, the book has no title. I'm here all week! Ba-boom!
January 3, 201511 yr Apparently when the Newcastle players went over to applaud their fans after the game today they [fans] started to chant 'we're sh*t and we're sick of it'. Have you ever heard of fans directing their anger directly at the entire team like that? It's not booing them or ranting on the phone ins, it seems a hell of a lot more personal than that.
January 3, 201511 yr He can do what he wants, but no football club should hire him. I hope someone does hire him. Everyone deserves a second chance. Why not encourage an example of reform? I understand footballers are in a unique position, but there have been other players that have been to prison and still carried on playing. Marlon king has had plenty of run ins with the law but he was given plenty of opportunities. At what point does this example end? If he was to be forced out of football, should buisness' not hire him aswell because of damage to the company image, or in case it upsets some of the female employees. Eventually someone will have to take a punt on him. Don't see why that can't be a football club.
January 3, 201511 yr He'll get signed and in a couple of years no one will give a f**k just like the others.

Having never admitted his guilt I personally question should he have been eligible for early release? Having gained early release from prison he will find it hard to gain employment like any other person in similar circumstances. The question is should it be within his own profession or with the help of the probation service finding a position which gives him gainful employment? Maybe if he took this course and proved he was rehabilitated, others would be prepared to give him a new chance in life. Today it has been suggested he plays abroad in Malta. Is he able to do this? How would he access the probation service and are sex offenders allowed out on licence allowed to work abroad?

Prisons are a place for reform, for people to serve a sentence and hopefully be accepted back into mainstream society. If he's not allowed back into the profession it sends the message that convicted criminals should be thrown in a pit and left to their own devices. His punishment was meant to be his jail time but it has been extending due to the struggle he's faced since coming out.
January 3, 201511 yr http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/30662865 It seems that the Ministry of Justice will not allow Ched Evans to work abroad anyway.
January 3, 201511 yr Gerrard is just leaving Liverpool, right? He's not actually dead or something is he ? The outpouring of grief from sky and BBC is nauseating. Yesterday, it was the second lead story on the BBC news website. Never mind Syria, aircraft crashes, etc. Football is important and some football stories are legitimately mainstream headline news (i.e. Sir Alex retiring) but not this.

Would you actually want this club to hire a convicted rapist? Would you want to chant this guy's name? Like I said, he should be free to be a footballer but any club hiring him should be shamed publicly.

Like I said, he should be free to be a footballer but any club hiring him should be shamed publicly. Personally I wouldn't have a problem with it. Probably stop short at getting his name on my kids shirts though lol! I feel that there has already been precedent set for players to get back into football following prison sentences, and I think ched evans should be allowed to continue a career in football. Jessica ennis even got involved and said she would have her name removed from the stand at brammell lane, if evans was signed on. But she didn't seem to have a problem with marlon king playing for sheff utd under a year earlier.

January 3, 201511 yr Personally I wouldn't have a problem with it. Probably stop short at getting his name on my kids shirts though lol! Why? You don't believe in second chances? Personally I'd feel uncomfortable having a convicted rapist representing this club, the club that my family supports (including female members). I can't believe that many other clubs would feel it was right to have that type of character putting on their shirt.

But football clubs answer to 'the mob' all the time. Pardew has been all but forced out because of the 'mob' (or crowd) getting on his back. West Ham almost caved to their crowd's whims with Allardyce. We tried our best with Benitez. Football clubs ARE their fans, they aren't a viable concern without them. He's been found guilty, he's served his time and he can be whatever he wants to be. That is the rule of law. But then there's the bit about having people pay to come and support this person and that is an entirely separate matter. Drawing equivalence with other c**ts getting second chances is pointless.

I can't believe that many other clubs would feel it was right to have that type of character putting on their shirt. Obviously that was tongue in cheek. Plenty of clubs have hired convicts so I don't think it would be that unquestionable. I don't see footballers as role models, which where I feel we must differ. If he was to rape someone whilst signed for us, I would hope he wold be sacked and sent to prison, like I would in any walk of life. Not gonna keep going on about it, you have your opinion which I respect, and I have mine.
