Di Maria cost United £60 million and he hasn't even been that good. 3 goals and 6 assists and most games he is rarely involved. They could have got Sanchez for half of that and he would have done a far better job.

If we're clean and clear ahead of Manchester City by late February I wouldn't consider a draw at the Bridge to the Saints to be a disaster. They look like a solid unit. Glad to see our result against them was no fluke.

mate they then went on to beat the gunners by the same score we did when those bums visited Da Bridge. No fluke whatsoever

They seriously shut United out. They had no shots on targets against the Saints. Absolutely incredible.

Also because of poor united finishing. Mata should have had two goals. DEFINITELY at least one

United didn't help themselves though, they made it very easy for Southampton. They had no urgency, their touch was off, their passing was off and they just kept crossing the ball into the box, they never once tried to play through Southampton. They were really poor.

What gets me (and this applies to us too, and to Utd and Scousepool) is don't buy midfielders and forwards when your defence is dodgy. I just don't understand why Van Gaal isn't busting a gut to get decent defenders in?

Because attack is the best form of defence, ckearly.

And when teams with a decent defence use it properly, they're not playing proper football. :)

Despite spending 150m and having less games to play Man U have the exact same amount of points as they did at same stage last year but have scored fewer goals. Moyesh.

I reckon that, next to us, Southampton have the best defensive line in the league.

Stats wise they have the better defense - CFC have given up 19 goals this season - The Saints have only given up 15 - you do the math

Just made a good point on R5 - Moyes got slated for the long ball tactics used in the later stages of this game by 'tactical genius' Van Gaal.

I love how when Van Gaal was set on Spurs midway of last season and no one said a word about him.

As soon as he was going for the United job when Moyes got the sack all I heard was Van Gaal tactical genius and then apparently he was responsible for how good Barcelona are today and one of the best tacticians in the game for subbing a keeper on in penalty shoot out in the World Cup.

Even their current ones aren't that good IMO. Jones, Smalling arent top class. I think they go all in for Hummels.

I agree. It's odd that Utd have more good midfielders than they can play and are relying on Jones and Smalling.

In the papers, there are stories about Rodgers being linked to this or that midfielder and Liverpool's defence is shocking.

I may not be bright enough to understand :-)

So there is actually a very good chance that had they given the same amount of money to Moyes he would have actually done a better job.

What a brilliant performance by Southampton. I'm still skeptical as to whether they will make the top 4 but I'm sure they will be very, very close indeed at the least.

7 points from Chelsea, Arsenal and United in the last 3 or so weeks. I think it's time to start taking Southampton seriously.
