Following Our Nearest and Dearest Rivals, 2014-15

Liverpool still have a striker that hit the net 21 times in 29 EPL games last season, and scored again today. Sergio Aguero is back and looking fit, only the pitch for 8 minutes but still scores. Ramsey back and fit for Le Arse and they have added Sanchez.

I admire your confidence RFC, but do believe it is a tad over optimistic.

You can't make these judgements after 1 game.

Liverpool will still get plenty of goals from Sturridge and Sterling, and I'm sure others will weigh in.

Arsenal have improved their squad and I'm pretty sure wil finish above 4th this year.

Utd won't be 7th again. Van Gaal simply can't be as sh*t as Moyes was.

According to reports they, Liverpool, will offer big money to try and sign Cavani. While United could be about to add Rojo and Benatia to their weak back line.

Tbh, I'm quite optimstic for this season as well because I believe that if we're not top or looking like favourites around March, I think Jose will go all out for the Champions League. (if we're still in it)

I think we all feel optimistic but for anyone to suggest we will win the league because all our title rivals have not strengthened enough or gone backwards is misguided at this stage. If Costa were to get injured tomorrow night or has a complete nightmare, I suspect the level of optimism may dip quite considerably on here.

We should feel confident of the league this year, last year we threw it away, and this year we've strengthened exactly where we needed.

Compare that to our main rivals.

Liverpool- scattergun approach to players bought in, praying that 1 or 2 will be a success.

Arsenal- not addressed their weaknesses.

Man City- bought a couple of quality players in, but any absolute top class players, unsure?

Man Utd- far to many problems to be solved in 1 transfer window.

Spurs- hahahahahahaha.

Not worried in the slightest about what I've seen so far.

Liverpool are weaker without the canibal and United are a joke.

City will be the main ones because Arsenal always bottle it.

This season is ours

You would make a great United fan

With ibrahimovic injured, I can't see cavani going anywhere.

I'm not going to lie, I was pretty happy when i woke up, turned on NBCSN, and saw that Swansea was up 1-0. But if I hear just one more word about Le Arse winning the FA Cup, I will scream.

Um, yeah? He was one of their best players.

No. Just no. Ward-Prowse, Tadic and Clyne were their best players. Bertrand was what he always has been, average. Made a good cross, lost the ball dangerously a few times and gave away needless freekicks.

Well, certainly an interesting start to the campaign, but I'm not getting too hyped yet as we've yet to see us play.  A Monday night game, away to newly promoted Burnley.  It's not going to be easy.

I expect some other signings to hit Man Utd, but this is also why I'm glad we've gone about our business the way that we have.  Got the players in, and the areas addressed, and the team have had chances to play together.  If Utd do add before the end of the transfer window, they may have dropped a few points by then already.

Sturridge is certainly a great striker.  Shame he never worked out here under AVB, but he's gone now.  It will be interesting to see if Sturridge can be the main man in the League and Europe.

Anyway, it's already shaping up to be a fantastic season.  I think City have to be favourites, if I'm honest.  Their depth is second to none.  However, I hope we can give them a good run.

Going to have to agree to disagree then. From what I've seen in reactions to the game I'm not alone in thinking that he was great.

Who thought he was great? Havent seen abyone suggest he was before I saw your post

What do you mean "who"? Fans of both teams have said he was impressive, I was looking at the match thread on the Southampton forum and they were all impressed.

There's this thread as well http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?51238-Bertrand-signs-for-a-season-long-loan/page10#.U_EQp8VdXOc

i wouldn't bother trying to change peoples mind any more... seen enough times in his thread that people will say he's not good enough despite all the evidence pointing to the contrary.

Out of all the top 6 from last year city were the most impressive by far. Looked pretty solid although newcastle did get in behind once or twice and they still have aguero to come back in to the starting 11.

Liverpool looked very average and I was happy with what I saw. Lost the magic of suarez and although sturridge (will pick up an injury in the next 5 games as usual) and sterling will score goals they will struggle to keep clean sheets and won't score as many as last year.

United- sh*t

Arsenal- sh*t

Spurs- sh*t

Everton- Losing barkley was a big blow they won't be near top 4.

Looking forward to seeing how we get on tommorrow. Expect us to struggle but eventually break them down. Big test for costa who will experience for the first time in a chelsea shirt what it is like to be up against 4 defenders who won't give you any time and space. Done well in the friendlies but let's face it this is a completely different story.

Well they have beaten us the each of the last 3 seasons so I'm not sure about that.

That's depressing, considering how crap they are against top sides.

What?

They gave City a game yesterday. They give most top sides a decent game.

Newcastle absolutely deserved a point yesterday, they really gave it a go, battled admirably.... and had many chances, sadly none on target!!

A couple of their new signings look good too.
