April 12, 201511 yr City hopefully back in their box. Often think they're the road not taken. Always the second team in their own city, fans who don't even support their team... f**k knows where they go from here if Pep isn't available. Not sure why pep would leave Bayern for citeh...big step down...
April 12, 201511 yr Kinkladze - we lost on my birthday too. Maybe not as bad as losing to your biggest rivals but it still bloody sucks, so I can emphasise... slightly. Wheras my birthday is 19th May :)
April 12, 201511 yr City are a step down for most if not all elite managers. They could go for Jurgen Klopp or someone like that or if they fancy a gamble they could try Brendan Rodgers
April 12, 201511 yr Wheras my birthday is 19th May :) That date is awful for our family, but now we celebrate it for another reason :)
April 13, 201511 yr You know what the icing on the cake is fellas? It's my birthday today as well. Usually I'd come in here, Write a paragraph or two but today i feel helpless, Now i know how you lot felt under AVB. I know the feeling. On my birthday last year we lost to Crystal Palace and from that point we lost control of the race for the title.
April 13, 201511 yr People on blue moon being a bit delusional with their lineups next year. Lots feel they're able to buy bale, pogba, sterling & koke all in one window! Wheras my birthday is 19th May :) likewise :) Edited April 13, 201511 yr by MANoWAR
April 13, 201511 yr I keep thinking he can't possibly make a bigger fool of himself, but credit to Mario, he always proves me wrong.

April 13, 201511 yr Could you imagine the fuss if this had been the other way round? http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32277867 Jose is so nice... Thats the way he is though, he got the result he wanted and so can be the bigger man. If we'd lost he would have went nuts about it all. Edited April 13, 201511 yr by Zola
April 13, 201511 yr We'll hear from Kompany soon, no doubt. Yesterday buried whatever chances they still had of the title.. it's a 3 horse race now with us considerably in front, although I won't be taking anything for granted till i see JT being presented with the trophy. It will be an interesting summer as well, none of he top 4 are good enough to compete in Europe IMO. City will have to replace yaya who's just mentally checked out I think. sort out defensive issues and get some wingers in (remmeber MSB telling us Nasari was better then Eden?) United have no defenders, there most important player by a country mile is Carrick and he isn't getting any younger. Going forwards they are fine but might need another striker, RVP will continue to be injury prone Gooners, I haven’t seen enough of coquline (or however his name is spelt) maybe he is the defensive mid answer Wenger has refused to address for 10 years and so if he works out they really just need to look at the back line again, currently not good enough. In Ramsy they have a hell of a player though. If he can stay fit they will be right up there next season. Us – I think it’s telling that we have by far the best defensive set up and our top of the league. The difference this season from last is the ability to win the games we should be winning, even when not playing well, additions of Costa and Fabregas have helped with that. We could do with another striker and a right winger, (even if that is a rejuvenated Juan Cuadrado) Would be good to see RLC get his chance to come in to the team next year, if he’s as good as well all hope he is it gives us options. And we also have to start thinking about life after JT.
April 13, 201511 yr Was Di Maria an unnecessary signing for Manchester United and are they are a better team without him? Could they have performed better this season had the £60m spent on him been invested on a decent central defender instead? I think I could see United investing pretty heavily on a central defender and a new striker in the summer with Falcao and Van Persie leaving.

And we also have to start thinking about life after JT. Great post, there's a lot of talk about Drogba's age and how that has affected him, JT is just three years younger? JT has had consistency at the club and so perhaps that gives him an edge and an extension of future time on the pitch?
April 13, 201511 yr The Chelsea boss added: "If, at the end of the game, someone threw a pound coin, put it in your pocket. If someone threw a chocolate, eat it. It is no problem. Everybody needs a pound."[emoji1][emoji1]

Sounds like Hummels is a done deal and maybe Cavani in some sort of deal that sees Di Maria go the other way

What makes me laugh is van Gaal and everyone at Utd making out getting in top four is some kind of great achievement...they spent £150m plus, including smashing British transfer record...it's the bare minimum of what they should be doing...yet their spin on it seems to have the support of the pundit world and beyond...it's amazing what an easy ride they get...just like Liverpool really, with Brendan making out spu king over £100m and dropping form second to any place in top four would make for a good season...if only we could be judged by such low standards..yet we lose a game and manager is on verge of the sack etc
April 13, 201511 yr United will be a force next season. They will easily spend £100-200 million in the summer to address the defence and midfield, they have a pretty average one just now and are in great form. We ourselves need to bring in a few as our squad is pretty small and lacking in real quality outside the starting 11
April 13, 201511 yr We will spend again and be even stronger, a worrying prospect for the others...and like Liverpool have found out, Utd will have to cope with stress of euro football next season and also can't get away with being knocked out of the cups early
April 13, 201511 yr Even though England is out of Uefa, shouldnt we have a Champions League Thread since it resumes tomorrow?

I think I could see United investing pretty heavily on a central defender and a new striker in the summer with Falcao and Van Persie leaving. Van Gaal has authorized a possession heavy system for us. At Madrid and at Benfica, he was part of a system that was all about utilizing counter attacks with fast pace, driving at the opposition. At United he is required to be more methodical and patient with our philosophy. I'm sure he'll be able to come through, as the best players do, now is the time he needs to listen and follow what the manager says, Young has done this and is thriving at the moment. So as I say, it's more about if he can adapt, he'll come good. Hopefully he'll be key for us next season but at the moment we've got a good squad in great form and there's no need for us to change anything. Our defence despite not being big in value or name is quite underrated. We've got one of the best defensive records in the league this season but I'm sure we'll look to improve that even further, lots of rumours circulating about Hummels, who again adds to the ball-playing possession system. I keep thinking he can't possibly make a bigger fool of himself, but credit to Mario, he always proves me wrong. Edited April 13, 201511 yr by Juan Matas Beard

I don't think anyone questions Di Maria's ability but considering the United squad already had Rooney, Van Persie, Wellbeck, Mata, Young, Valencia, Hernandez, Januzaj and I suppose Fellaini it just struck me as strange that LVG went out of his way to break the British transfer record for Di Maria when attack wasn't United's Achilles heel. Out went the experience Evra and Vidic in defence and the main reinforcement was an eighteen year old with no experience of playing at the highest level. I'm not saying United shouldn't have invested in their attack, it's always good to freshen things up but to more or less ignore the defence just seemed odd, still does to me. I called it before the season even started that the 3 man defence, wing back system was doomed for failure especially as it didn't seem to play to the strengths of the players at the club... Mainly, you don't have one world class centre back, let alone three.
