Very open topic I know but every time I watch Eden play I think of Gianfranco. Zola is a legend and Eden has much to prove before he is a legend at the Bridge but let's have the debate

Seeing Zola at his pomp in the modern Chelsea would be a sight to see though...

Hazard is more alround skillful, and has much more pace, Zola a better scorer of Great great goals, imho..

Hazards ability to hold off a defender is unmatched, I'd put money on Zola scoring over Hazard though.

Hazard too massively inconsistent for me!

He's very good but his inconsistency just makes me think he's just a tad overrated by most.

I also think he wants it to be The Eden Show too often.

For now, at least, Zola for sure!

I couldn't disagree more, given how poor Oscar and Willian have been recently I wish he'd be more selfish.

Inconsistent ? he is one of our only players that has been consistent throughout the whole season.

Zola's free kick ratio is legendary. Hazard is so so good, but he passes sometimes when he should shoot.

I love his un-selfishness, but it also gets frustrating.

What are you talking about? Hazard was practically carrying the whole team at certain points of the match against Southampton.

I wouldn't go that far, we collectively played bad.

The topic is Hazard vs Zola, judging them both, that was my verdict.

Closest thing to Zola that Chelsea had imo is Juan Mata.

Perhaps, in style of play. However, Zola was a far better player in my opinion.

i would have to say zola. The thing that that man could do with a ball were Ronaldinho/Messi like at times. I loved that time when he totally embarrassed liverpool's defenders - magical that was. 

Zola, not only was he a fantastic player but he also embodied everything great about the club. Hazard may go on to be the better player but I'll always side with Zola because he was more than just a player. 

When Hazard does something like this, maybe....... just maybe, I will contemplate comparing the two

Franco is an absolute gentleman and when people ask me about my favourite Chelsea player it's still him that I say. So many magical moments with him, so many great games where he was the star attraction and it was a real honour to be able to go to the Bridge and see him play.

 

Hazard is the closest we've had to that since then in my opinion. Franco came here aged 30 though, so he was already in his prime and Italy was still probably further ahead of this league in terms of the way players looked after themselves so he had that advantage. 

 

Eden is the first player we've had in my time supporting Chelsea who has the potential to be the best player in the world.

 

 

He's only just turned 24 so he has time on his side.

When Hazard starts consistently winning games and chipping in with a few more assists/goals I will consider him alongside Zola. In terms of ability he's certainly got potential to be better than Zola.

It's impossible to say at the minute really.

I mean how good was Zola at 23/24? I very much doubt he was like Hazard has been since he came here.

Not all players keep improving with age which is what happened with Zola so if Hazard has another few levels he can reach then he no doubt will be pushing Zola very close....if he stays with us of course.

Zola done things that didn't seem possible, we have still to see that from Eden to a certain extent.

Difficult to compare with the late 90s early 00s, anyone have stats for fouls?

I've seen Zola take a hoof ball booted out of the defense and bring it down to a dead stop like it was the easiest thing in the world. 

 

I've seen him twist and turn defenders in knots until they didn't know what day of the week it was. 

 

I've seen him give free kick masterclasses.

 

Produce countless moments of individual genius. 

 

 

Right now Zola is a Chelsea legend, a God. 

 

Hazard is a very talented player to have played for Chelsea... He's getting there but he's no Zola.
