Taking club biases out of it for a moment, would anyone agree that it's probably a better thing for the league as a competition, if all of the best players were spread around a bit more, rather than concentrated at a few clubs at the top?

And if we were resisting Man Utd's bids for a player, in exactly the same way, would you attack and condemn us in the same way, or would you say 'fair play for keeping hold of your player, and not giving in'?

You - that is Everton - haven't been attacked and condemned for holding on to your player. Martinez has been attacked and quite rightly villified for being an overbearingly sanctimonious hypocritical gobsh*te.

You're holding onto a player who is ready and capable of moving to a bigger team where he would have chances of actually winning a trophy and learning from the best english defender of the last 20 years. Now you're right, if it was united or city i'd be laughing at them, but I wouldnt begrudge Stones wanting to move there, not one little bit.

I would like to sign off from this thread now and whatever the outcome, wish you lot well for the season and hope that relations between our clubs have not been damaged beyond repair. In the end I think it is the people who turn out to watch and spend their hard earned who own the game, we can swap insults and go tribal, but those that know the score understand our stance, regardless of their frustration. I am sure our fixtures will have some added spice, but I really hope that we can keep a sense of humour going, that is the fun and a big reason why I continue to go.

All Martinez has been doing during this saga is working his own agenda by trying to raise his personal profile in the hope that a 'big' club comes along and offers him a high profile job.

To what end is the Point of holding onto Stones, just to get maximum value in a years time, youre holding the kid back, it may do his England career the world of good, seeing as Cahill would potentially be his national and maybe club partner, as others have said MartinSez just looks a sanctimonious prick now.....

Like Jose said if he could give a presser once a month, he would, others would do it every day, he has been a little attention whore, unfortunately for him finishing 11th with such a talent as stones as he keeps telling us and with his club record signing Lakaku, isn't landing him any jobs...he is lucky to have his.

If a young talented player has made his intentions known to you that he wants to leave for another club why wouldn't you allow him to leave? If the manager is really looking out for Stones then why wouldn't he allow the player to leave when he's made it clear he wants to? I understand refusing but once he's handed in the request why not let him leave?

Seen the sun? He's apparently fled his home and been terrorised by everton fans. You're meant to be trying to convince him to want to stay

The player has the chance to join a team of winners. Players experience in winning trophies as opposed to mid table mediocracy every season and don't even get me started on the comparison of managers. Martinez is awful.

Playing beside John Terry or Jagielka?

Mourinho or Martinez

Champions League or Carling Cup

Stones wanted to better himself and get some silver wear in his career and he's being held back and really let down by Everton. It's awful.

Shall we just skip the actual matches and just have all this soap opera.  I mean so far we've had the Eva thing, all the transfer saga of Pogba and Stones, the whole "is Jose happy/going to leave, it's his third season".  Do we actually need the kicking about of a ball on the pitch?

If Everton keep hold of him for this season then fair play to them, they held out. However, I think that they're putting their pride ahead of their heads here because £35mil for a player like Stones is an insane amount of money.

They were the first to say he was going to hand in a transfer request.

If true Martinez will probably claim they were Chelsea fans posing as everton fans or that we paid those people to do that.
