Yes and no. I agree with your point that players in bad form should be benched. Ivanovic is a great player, but he has been humiliated twice in a row and thus he deserves to be benched. Costa for me deserves the same, as with a couple of others.

 

But in this thread, we are talking about Courtois and Begovic. Everybody knows Courtois is number 1 and he has given Mourinho no reason to bench him. It's a completely different situation.

 

Can't disagree with your point, I would totally understand if Courtois is reinstated into the lineup immediately, but i'd also understand if Begovic is kept on for a few more games, particularly in the absence of more signings providing any sort of increased incentive to the starting XI to perform.

Eh sorry, but Courtois has to be number 1.  For Swansea's first goal Courtois pulled off a ridiculous save, it wasn't his fault the defence couldn't clear the ball. He made a decision to come out and try to tackle Gomis, only because it was either come out or be left standing picking the ball out of the net. Begovic is a class keeper no doubt, and if we didn't have Tibo then he'd be an excellent first choice, but we have the best young keeper on the planet in our squad, and he's probably top 3 in the world, so we can't leave him on the bench.

agreed entirely but what does it say to players from other clubs such as Rahman or Stones that they can't displace our regular 11 if they're 'undroppable'. If they play well in one or two game when called upon shouldn't they be rewarded? Plus I know the situations are different but has Zouma made a mistake yet? I think he should be a starter

 

I just think this situation is different as Courtois has done very little wrong whereas Ivanovic and Cahill / Terry have been suspect. If Courtois had been making errors then I'd agree but he was forced into reacting against Swansea and got it wrong. If Mangala had headered on target on Sunday when Begovic flew out and missed I bet this conversation wouldn't have even taken place.

 

On another topic I completely agree Zouma should be starting in place of Cahill for me.

not at all. Cech remains the undisputed best keeper we've ever had and id rather have him at his best than either of the other two

Yeah as good as Begovic is, Tibo is our primary 'keeper 

I'd stay with Courtois,but Begovi? surely won't just accept the fact he is a sub keeper.Also this is a great option to keep Courtois on his toes.

We didn't sell Cech to make Courtois be our 2nd GK. I'm happy that we have very good goalkeepers, but Courtois is the first choice.

All this talk about squad competition and im surprised more people dont want Begovic in. I say keep him playing until he gives us a reason to drop him. Curtois brought this on himself, he'll learn.

What kind of message does that send to players, 'youve played great but Im dropping you because I like someone else'

How has Courtois brought being injured on himself?

 

Courtois is our number 1, he has played one league game this season, he got injured, he should come straight back in as soon as hes fit.

You dont think the red he got against Swans had anything to do with it?

Begovic for me. If Begovic was in goal in our first match, we wont have drew, we would have won because he has more experience he wont have made that tackle that resulted in us playing with one man down. If it was a Champions league final and we are on level terms with our opponent, that little mistake by Coutois can cause us to lose a huge trophy!

Are relative newcomers setting up threads to set up discord thereby undermining our boys and setting them up for over and above constructive, limited, criticism?

Ha ha, yeah sorry. For some reason I convinced myself he was injured, totally blanked out the red card. 

Begovic is a great keeper, Courtois is world class and easily in the top 5 keepers in the world so has to start.

Any rival fans still willing to call Begovic a money grabber who'll sit on the bench all season? Hopefully he'll continue where he left of at the Etihad...although it would be nice if our defence could provide a little protection

What an awful start for us this season. I swear I have seen plenty of teams go went through a full season with reserve GKs barely play a game, yet we will be missing first choice GK for few months ( if the rumour is true). Thank god we have Begovic, let's hope he doesn't spray an ankle walking his dog.

Yeah I read something saying possibly 2 months. We must be the luckiest team in England right now.

Courtois does seem to pick up a few knocks here and there, he picked up a few last season too. Good jod we have a good enough back up again.

This season has started with just some fantastic news, individual performances & results.

On the bright side, at least we're not looking to Rob Green to fill the void.
