Well maybe not a new era, more of a return to the ethos of an old era.

 

First of all I must apologise to a number of people for being absent for so long and leaving them to run this place on my behalf. Mod and Gem, in particular, have done one hell of a job over the past few years as I have drifted away (for a variety of personal reasons that are my business) and I owe them a massive debt of gratitude.  However that gratitude isn't enough as far as I am concerned.  I always set the culture on here in terms of the sort of forum  I wanted it to be and I let Mod, Gem, and the forum down, by establishing it for a while and then disappearing and expecting them to try and maintain it without my support.

 

I have spent the past few days looking over the forum again and it is clear that it is no longer the place I intended it to be. 

 

The few of you who are still here who have been on here for years will understand what I am getting at without me labouring the point.

 

This was always supposed to be a little different from a lot of forums. Extreme levels of personal abuse were not acceptable and my view was always that a rival fan who could offer something different and take/give a bit of banter was more welcome than a Chelsea fan who just became abuse the moment we didn't win a corner let alone a title.

 

I have been away far too long and therefore lost sight a little of the way things have been and the fall outs etc.  With that in mind I think a clean slate for all is called for and we start afresh.   However going forward things will be a little different and I make no apologies for that.  If you want to come on here and get abusive then take yourself elsewhere. We all disagree and there will always be some latitude given when emotions run high but persistent abuse bores the sh*t out of everyone and will not be tolerated.

 

Some of the stuff I have read on here has been embarrassing.   Lets get back to this being a place we enjoy logging into as I sense it has drifted a long way from there.

To be honest I thought shedender was a good poster, seemed well informed and always brought arguments to the table. Admittedly I don't read everything so he might have overstepped somewhere. And he broke the rules I guess so a ban of course is justified.

It's just a bit of a shame to lose a good poster.

Great news Loz. Ive struggled with the forum for sometime now and pretty much stayed away apart from the odd lurk. Like you say it simply isnt the place it was once was. Having been active on the various guises of this place since 1997 it was sad to see it that way, but at the same time it was also possbily a victim of its own success, of which you and Mod played such a huge part.

 

Looking forward to coming back on here again, it was always my first stop.

honestly I never manage to put these things together. I've been pm'd by other people in the past telling me not to encourage him in some previous username. I mean I think it is fair I apologise for my part in it right here as I'm sure it was a genuinely awful reading.

 

but anyway as blue daze he sent me a message wantingto meet up so I could repeat my opinions to his face (because apparently this medium was no longer cutting it?)

 

then as shedender he got upset when I said he was being specious, sent me a pm saying he wanted to be friends and that I'd hurt his feelings and needed to change my tone. I responded by saying I stood by what I wrote (and said he was being a bit propagandist) which provoked a "OH PLEASE TELL ME HOW TO BE GOOD AT POSTING ON THE INTERNET LIKE YOU!" style response where he asked for examples of that.

 

then he deleted that message.

 

then he sent me another post saying he was taking advantage of my nature and apologised for that. then he added that no-one would have the time to find examples (which I found ironic given how many posts he'd made in about six weeks).

 

but I think it was at this point that I decided it would probably be better to not respond to anything he wrote, either by pm or in the main forums.

Apologies if this is the wrong place, but it does seem as good a place as any, fresh starts and all that.

 

To cut to the chase, I've been told that there are some people here who aren't exactly fond of my username, which is fair enough. It's easy enough to understand how its meaning could be misconstrued.

 

And so I'd like to request a change of username, to Maverick if at all possible, which as many of those who know me would agree, does actually suit me quite well.
