If he admits to having known it was a penalty on the field, the inevitable next question is going to be 'Why didn't you own up to it?'. What he said is about the closest you're ever going to get to a defender admiting he should have given a pen.

Obviosly this stuff is all subjective, and I'm not trying to pick an argument with you, I'm just confused by why you seemed so determined it wasn't a pen. The defender made contact in the box, said himself afterwards that it should have been a pen, and although Willian went down a bit easy, he's entitled to when there's contact. If he stays up, we know from bitter experience that no pen is ever awarded.

You're obviously not reading the article so I will spell it out for you now.

Klose thinks it was a penalty.  Klose came to that conclusion from seeing the footage afterwards.  Therefor, Klose made is opinion the same way I and anyone else watching it on TV came to their opinion.  He never said he knew instantly on the pitch and even if he did, that's fine, I've explained to you how you can't always be sure if somethings happened in situations like that.

To your latter point, I think it looked ugly last night, really really ugly that our team would have players that do that. I guess that's why I feel so greatly about the issue because I don't like seeing it and I'll call it what it is when I see it.

Disgusting attitude from him last night. I was at the game and when you see it happen right in front of you it looks even worse.

He isn't helping himself, going to ground as easily and as often as he does. No wonder refs are having none of it and rightly so. Needs a good kick up the ass from Conte.

And we're after Andy Carroll? At this rate, I can see why.

I believe Morata has it all except the mindset. He's a wimp and I don't think that's something that can change overnight. Needs to stop feeling sorry for himself, stop flapping to the ground and start to man the f**k up and score some goals.

That's the Real Madrid attitude i'm afraid. They think they're entitled to everything in football. Like spoilt brats.

Lot of people wearing blue tinted glasses.

Disagree, my whole work Group Chat couldn’t believe it wasn’t a penalty and they’re all United fans.

My dad is an Arsenal man and he couldn’t believe it wasn’t a penalty either.

There was differing opinions on Moratas but all agreed it wasn’t a booking for diving, some just thought it wasn’t a pen others did.

Everyone agreed Pedros was a bad one.

So really nothing to do with blue tinted glasses when there’s supporters of other teams in shock. I’d argue the fact that it’s chelsea is making you overly critical against your own team.

I hope he gets his ban extended. Good chance for Mitchy, an actual goal scorer btw, to give some contribution to this team.

He’s no gonna contribute hee-haw cause he’s p!sh.

I was against Carroll but he’ll actually end up being our first choice striker which is scary.

Haha that's quite funny if you think I'm an overly critical supporter you haven't read 99% of my posts.  They all got reviewed as well and all decisions stood.  But you're probably in the camp of refs hating us and FA conspiracies so that won't matter much.

I think the time out might do him some good, he was clearly frustrated last night and now he's vented it maybe he can focus on his own performance rather than why every tackle isn't a foul. He's a good player, makes the chances but you could see last night the finishes were met with a lack of conviction. All players have slumps and unfortunately his has also been met with the team as a whole going off the boil, hope he shows some character and comes back with some fight and a clear head.

He needs someone to have a strong word with him. Should've scored 3 again last night. All strikers go threw bad patches, but if he showed some hunger and determination he would've got on the end of that pedro cross. Instead he looked scared of getting hurt.

I'm a big fan of his, he just needs learn that strength is an asset in this league, put yourself about and will be rewarded.

He's got a decent rest now, if I was conte id let him go back to Spain for a couple of days, just to try and refocus him a little.

I think he will come good, we are struggling as a team at the moment aswell. So hopefully his form will pick up.

strange thing to say.

What's strange in my desire to watch the favourite team playing actually with 11 men? Cuz' that's not happening with Morata on the pitch.

Even in sh*t*y game like this he somehow managed to miss four real chances and to get a red card. What a player!

We could basically say that we are playing with 6 players then, the back 5 plus the keeper, because, Everyone in-front of them has been pretty poor since xmass.

@Van Butsen and @Pendergast and anyone who is dubious about the Morata 'penalty'

FA Rules and Regulations, Law 12:

1. A foul is to be awarded if the opponent is held with the arms or body.

2. Where a player commits an offence against an opponent and didn’t attempt to play the ball (e.g. holding, pulling, pushing) the offending player must be cautioned

Opposition clearly has his hands around Alvaro.

End of discussion.

You cannot go further in changing the narrative of the converstion, can you. Well done, you are good at this, gotta give you that.

I'm telling you that even against low opponent, in a very, very boring game, somehow he missed 4 goals, the lack of physical presence was still there, all the complaining and diving(out of the penalty) stuff was still there, so please don't try to make me miss this useless guy because he deserved one penalty, which penalty, btw, was also unnecessary, because he could move on. But of course, he decided not to do it, because this is who he is - a diver. And the referees know that. And I don't give a damn they barely touched him. Won't miss him at all. I repeat, hope he gets banned for more than just a game.

@RIP Mourinho I don't see holding, pushing, or pulling.  I see arm on shoulder and then falling to the ground.  Very similar to the types of challenges I see all game every game and interpreted the exact same.

Arm on shoulder with enough force to hold the player back and impede his run,,,, penalty.

And if he had awarded the pen but yellow carded Morata for the dive, would Morata have kicked off and got the 2nd yellow ?

This one could be debated for ever. We have seen penalties awarded in the past for similar challenges and players won't usually get carded for "diving".

But never a penalty for me. Maybe I'm too old fashioned but I like to see my striker stand up and be strong against defenders, not go down at the slightest touch and whinge at officials whenever he doesn't get a decision. All we can hope is that he learns from this.

The ref was a joke, no one denies that. But Morata is a professional diver and crybaby, in every fifth minute, he is lying down the grass in a terrible pain, then he suddenly gets up and goes right to the ref and start to yell at them. That attitude of his explains all these mistakes. You think they dont know him? Btw,that was the first time this season they judged wrong, I dont remember any against him.

It's kinda hypocritical to cry and hate people like Ronaldo and Suarez and to tolerate this guy. He dives more often and in a very amateur way compare to them.

What you are saying is fine.  He is weak at this point not physically, but mentally.  He thinks he deserves every foul, it is RM where he learned that.  He needs to stay on his feet and get on with it.  Also, score the chances that need to be put away.  he is missing 2 or 3 every game now.

I think what I, and most other people, are saying is that in no way shape or form should he be booked yesterday for simulation.  It was not simulation, there was an arm around the back, no attempt to play the ball, and sure a bit of tugging.  Going down in that situation is NOT simulation, regardless of whatever reputation he has as a diver.  His attitude after the yellow is amateurish at best, but the initial call from the ref is wrong.  I have NEVER seen a similar play given as simulation.  I have, however, seen a penalty given on even less...

The only POSITIVE thing when it comes to Morata and his finishing is that at least he's in the right position to score and he's getting chances. You worry when your main striker isn't get any.

He will knock Arsenal out of the Carabao Cup during the week. Heard it here first.

Could the ref have awarded the penalty and booked Alvaro for diving ? Intersting thought.

Ha, I was discussing this exact point today actually regarding the Willian pen shout. The opposing argument was that he was going down before the contact was made, however, whether he had gone down or stayed upright he was always being fouled so was always going to be a penalty. Wonder if you could give a penalty whilst booking the player for diving? Probably not.
