Marcos Alonso

Alonso scores a lot of his goals by being unmarked and coming on the left side when nobody is expecting him, he takes risks and he has a great left foot. So don't expect him to be as lethal if you play him further up the pitch, I don't think it will work as many others think it will. It's like Luiz when he played in the DM position, it just didn't work.

Unless we get a few players back, I think there are good reasons for Alonso to play further up field, maybe not as a 9, but in the front 3 is not out of the question. He's making runs, he's got a good left foot, and winning headers in the final third. Defensively he's all over the places, so why bother feeding him to the wolves? We are at a stage where we are desperately for goals, if that means a left back play upfield, so be it.

With us lacking up front and missing Tammy, Pulisic, CHO and RLC playing Broja and Anjorin might be just the boost we need.

I think we would all enjoy that very much. However, some of the criticism aimed at our young players is their lack of consistency and not reading the game. I'm not sure whether putting in even younger players is the answer. Still, we can dream

Frank was saying that we need to have our front men scoring more rather than our Left back yet it occurred to me yesterday that Alonso scored as he read the deflections from Giroud's and Pedro's efforts on goal. Good skill to have.

It's a sad commentary on how crappy our strikers/midfielders/wingers are when it comes to goal scoring that we have to rely on Alonso to bail us out.

I try to see it as an example of out of the box thinking.

I think that's what it is, in a way Lampard is trying to make things work in any possible way. It feels like everything goes against him, he tried to gain some consistency in many ways, by playing the same formation, by playing the same players, by not playing the same players, by changing formation but it's just too hard.

Fair point Val. Every league game Frank has an issue with our attack. If Giroud, Batman, Pedro, Willian and Mount are not the answers with others injured what do we have to lose trying Broja and Anjorin? I think the fans will give them the support they need and be more forgiving to them.

Thinking exactly this

Shouldn't have to rely on him to get us the goals in tricky games like yesterday. Just highlights how desperately we need attacking force ASAP.

Put up a vid of the tea lady, and i'll give my honest answer

I couldn't find you a video, but I did find her picture. She adds a little bit of height in the box as well.

I read somewhere he has the same amount of premier league goals for Chelsea as Willian.

Since Alonso joined the club in 16-17, he has 19 league goals in 105 league games.

In the same seasons Willian has 21 goals in 129 games.

Alonso scoring every 0.18 games, Willian every 0.16 games...

Why does Alonso always look like he’s about to collapse with exhaustion towards last 20 minutes? He gets really leggy and even struggles to pass properly. It’s weird.

Really? I would say he is among the best condition wise. If you refer to the Fimino clash, his acceleration is just slow and therefor a bit clumsy if he tries to get up to speed.

Best defensive showing from him this season, never looked out of place and won some good headers in our box and up the half way line.

His defensive acceleration is his weakness, otherwise for me defensively he is good.

He often fouls yet does it cleverly to get out of situations.
