FIORENTINA CAPTAIN ASTORI DEAD
Football Italia

Fiorentina and Italy defender Davide Astori has died in his sleep.

The centre-back turned 31 in January and was the captain of the Viola squad, with 14 senior Italy caps and one goal to his name.

He had become a father only two weeks ago.

According to Udine Today, the player failed to wake up this morning when he was at the La di Moret hotel in Udine on a training camp with the squad, awaiting today’s match with Udinese.

The reports were spreading rapidly and Fiorentina released a statement this morning to confirm the news.

“Fiorentina are profoundly shaken and forced to announce that their captain Davide Astori has died,” read the statement.

“For this terrible and delicate situation, and above all out of respect for his family, we appeal to the sensitivity of the media.”

Udinese-Fiorentina has obviously been called off. There are reports the rest of the Serie A games this weekend could also be cancelled.

Shocking news RIP

God that's terrible news,  his poor family must be devastated.  Rip.

Poor Cech

Never been the same since the injury....being totally left out to dry lately.  Just goes to show how good our defence was in it's heyday.

my other useless fact is that Arsenal haven't come back to win an away game from 2-0 down since Bolton in 2008 (BBC)

Brighton 2-4 Arsenal.

I can't imagine Wenger will get fired, so looks like Arsenal are going to have to wait at least another season after this to see what happens. Maybe Wenger will retire at seasons end. Probably works out for the best if he does. Surely he's had enough of the same old sh*t, year in year out.

Izquierdo is some knobhead. That's at least 3 times he's got into positions where teammates have been in better positions and he hasn't passed, instead taken the shot himself and put it wide. His teammates having a go at him too.

Oh jesus, that's terrible. Imagine being left behind with a 2-week old baby.

Second season out of the Champions league.....I would say that changes the equation.

I'm not exactly laughing, just sporting a grim sneer, relieved that at least we are Chelsea.

Snow melts.

Rain falls.

Arsenal fizzile out.
